About the Author
Christine Lee Gengaro
is associate professor of music at Los Angeles City College where she teaches voice, music theory, and music education. She is a graduate of the PhD program in historical musicology at the University of Southern California and has presented and published papers about classical music and popular culture in the United States and abroad. She spent her early musical life as a singer and instrumentalist, turning to musicology in graduate school. While there, she was fortunate enough to act as assistant to the editor of the
Journal of the American Musicological Societ
y and to serve as executive editor of the online interdisciplinary music journal
Resonance.
In addition to teaching, she is an avid writer. She is the current program annotator for the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, but has also written program notes for the
Mozartwoche
concert series in Vienna, the Ford Theatre Foundation, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and Camerata Pacifica. She resides in Los Angeles and spends her free time writing fiction and playing music with two local bands.
