TODAY’S PASSAGE:

1 Thessalonians 5

TIME COMMITMENT:

30 minutes

“The Bible was not written to satisfy your curiosity; it was written to transform your life. The ultimate goal of Bible study, then, is not to do something to the Bible, but to allow the Bible to do something to you, so truth becomes tangent to life” (p. 290).

U
sing your list of nine questions again, work your way through 1 Thessalonians 5. This passage should contain considerably more examples than the previous one as responses to your nine questions. But just because many “obvious” observations pop out, don’t forget to meditate on the chapter and see if there aren’t other, less obvious lessons and applications. Again, we’ve reproduced the nine questions here for your convenience. We suggest you use this list for future Bible studies where you’re looking for good practical applications.

Is there an example for me to follow?

Is there a sin to avoid?

Is there a promise to claim?

Is there a prayer to repeat?

Is there a command to obey?

Is there a condition to meet?

Is there a verse to memorize?

Is there an error to mark?

Is there a challenge to face?

TODAY’S PASSAGE:

Psalm 51

TIME COMMITMENT:

30 minutes

“Application is based on Interpretation, which in turn is based on Observation. So if you have not observed a passage thoroughly, you are unlikely to interpret it correctly. And if your interpretation is erroneous, your application will likely be erroneous” (p. 300).

A
s we move from Interpretation to Application, we will encounter four means by which God’s Word transforms our lives: (1) Coming; (2) Conviction; (3) Convincing; and (4) Conversion.

Read Psalm 51 and use these four steps to help you apply what you find there.

Coming

Using what you’ve learned in the previous sections about Observation and Interpretation, what do you find significant as you come to Psalm 51?
