Chapter 9

Emery and Kendal

They had left their island as shortly after they left the house. They shifted in the water and the swim took overnight to get to Ireland. They had quickly found where the water met the forest and went into the forest. They slept for a while and then stated to walk until they saw Dragons. The First to just appear out of nowhere was a Fury, then two Fires and two Pearls. Emery and Kendal both looked at the Fire Dragons with recognition.

“Cara? Carmine? Is that you?” Kendal asked. Both Fire Dragons shifted after a moment and then flung their naked bodies and Emery and Kendal.

“EMERY, KENDAL! I am so glad you survived. It is so good to see you.” Carmine bellowed. “Here you need to meet our King and Queen this is Kaiden and Zoe. They are young yes, but they are the best you could ask for.”

“Nice to meet you.” Emery said with tears in her eyes.

“Good to meet you too, would you like to join us and be in our Family?” Zoe asked.

“Oh yes we would. We have a daughter that we will need to go get in a bit, but for now she is safe. She also just found out what she really is and was a little pissed at us so she refused to come.” Emery informed them sadness apparent in her tone.

“Yes we will get her very soon, for now we need to catch up on everything. But first in order to come through the border you need to swear fealty or you cannot pass.” Carmine informed them.

Emery and Kendal both took a knee and swore fealty to Kaiden and Zoe. Then they all crossed the border and walked to the house. Kaiden had asked if they wanted to fly, but they informed him that they shifted very often and enjoyed walking. Zoe informed them about the children in the house and the recent attack. She also informed them of the journal and all that was in it along with all the fail safes. This shocked them quite a bit, but they understood.

Kaiden informed them both that they were a Family her and that they were just in time for training.

“You are going to fight him?” Emery asked in shock

“Yes we are, this needs to stop and we all need to be able to protect ourselves from his sons. What we do here is mainly just learning how to defend ourselves. I ask that you are proficient in at least two weapons and then work on your Dragon skills. Ada and Leon, Ada is Aldrich’s sister, but he does not know she is alive. Anyway, she and her mate train in the evening one on one. They just arrived about four days ago and are a little rough in both skills. We also have lunch down here in the valley over there.” Kaiden pointed out the lunch area.

“You have the choice of joining or watching. We will not force you to fight if that is not what you want to do. But we do require that you learn to protect yourselves.” Zoe stated

“We will join in this fight. We have a human man that lives in Alaska and near his camp. He watches him for us and alerts us of any movement. We know that his camp is a trap if any Dragon dares to attack.” Kendal stated

“Yes his daughter Vivi is here and she has informed us of this. We don’t really know how we are going to get him in the open. All we know right now is that we need to get your daughter and then find her mate. Then we need to find the Earth couple. They are the lost ones and the last of us.” Kaiden said

“Our first and only mission right now is to find them. Let’s train and then we will do our share and tell. It is kind of a thing we have adopted at dinner time when we get new arrivals, but I think today we will do it at lunch.” Zoe stated

“Sounds good to me” Kendal admitted and they all walked to the training area.

Training had started a little later than normal, but in the few short weeks they had mastered it. Alex’s team decided that they would stay for share and tell and then would leave afterwards. They had also gotten with Jaco and had him ordering them a boat. He was told to look for something fast and safe. Jaco had assured them he knew what they needed and knew a local place to get it.

At lunch they all shared their stories which took a couple hours. Both Emery and Kendal were shocked at some of the stories and had not fully grasped the reality of everything. Kendal shared their story as soon as the last one was shared.

“As you all know now we were in a Sect with Carmine and Cara. It was a pretty relaxed Sect and we had all heard the rumors of the killing. We went underground with them for a while and then one day we left. It’s not that we wanted to leave you all Carmine. When we were out we felt one near us. Only it was a full-blood and we thought maybe it was one of ours. When we got close we saw that is was a stranger. We quickly took to the water and watched from there. We managed to follow for a while, but eventually we lost track of him. We stayed in the ocean and just traveled for a couple years until one day we felt a half-blood on a ship. We followed that ship all the way to Alaska and we able to locate his camp. For a year we watched him, but we knew we couldn’t do anything.” Kendal told them

“While we were in Alaska we found out we were pregnant. I was happy and scared all at the same time. We knew we had to leave and so we headed back to the one home we knew. We found a small island about a hundred miles from France. It was completely deserted so we made our home there. The night I went into labor something went wrong. Kendal shifter and dragged me to the mainland. We knew of a doctor that lived close so we went to his house. We bribed him that night. We told him everything and he was able to fix me. As soon as Finley came out and I was fixed we felt them. Kendal and I left our little fish with this doctor and we led the half-bloods away. We took them all the way to Austria. We set the Doctor and his wife up in a very nice safe house that was close to the water. Finely has had a good life, spoiled rotten and stubborn, but a good life. She has never wanted for anything, we made sure of that. Once we found out she was sneaking out of the house to go shopping in Paris we hired some bodyguards.”

“They now watch her day and night and live on the grounds. We have managed to keep her safe and have always led any half-bloods we feel away from her. We have explained the bare minimum to her over the years and last night we told her everything. She was not happy, but she is safe.” Emery stated wiping a tear from her eye.

“Alex and her team will bring her here and then we will go find her mate. She knows about him right?” Carmine asked

“Yes she knows there is someone meant for her, but like I said she is stubborn and well doesn’t want her Dragon to wake. She doesn’t want to turn.” Emery started to cry.

“Oh she will, the moment she lays eyes on him.” Justine joked

“I hope you are right. Now tell me about these new abilities you all have. I want to see if what I believe about Finley is correct.” Kendal stated

“Well Alex here can block the pull. With the help of Zach she can cover up to six people. If Zach and Zoe help she can cover more than twenty at over a ten mile radius. Christian can feel the intent of people bad intent will cause him extreme pain. Vivi can tell if someone is telling the truth, like Christian a lie will cause her pain. Zach can feel emotions and beware he is blunt about it when he gives his advice. When Zoe plays the guitar, well so far she has located Donny there through Jaco, and last night through little Maggie we were able to locate the rest that are alive. Donny can create fire, he is not turned yet either, but most Fire can only create fire in Dragon form. Little Ben here speaks to animals and they speak back. We are unsure if it is all animals or just dogs. Lastly we have little Abby who can see auras we think. She sees bubbles around everyone so I am guessing that is what it is. So far those are the only ones we have figured out. We know it is in the last born of the races so Justine and Gabe won’t get one. I don’t know mine yet and neither do Halina or Tia and John. What is it you think Finley can do?” Kaiden asked

“The weather” Emery and Kendal both say

“That is a unique one. Why is it that you think that?” Zoe asks

“Well when she is happy it is always sunny. If you piss her off the weather quickly turns into a storm. I don’t think she is aware of it though.” Emery stated

“That is something we will have to help her with then. Like with Alex she can only really control it on herself and Donny. With the help of Zach or me she can push it out. Maybe with one of us she will learn to control it.” Zoe says

“That sounds like something I would like to see. So can you tell us about the land here and how it works?” Emery asks

“Well the land is protected by a spell we recently added to it and now it is protected even more. You remember how we just appeared and you had not felt a pull until we did?” Emery and Kendal nod. “That is the added magic we put to it, before a Dragon could feel the pull and see through it, now they cannot. We have hired a trusted builder and his men. They have completed the main house and there are now suites for each of the seven races. There are twelve rooms down either side of the hall which are for anyone who wants them. The main room has all the amenities of a large home and is open to all. Hugh and his men are working on homes for all of the survivors he is making ten homes for each race. Right now everyone is happy where they are so the priority is the half-blood condos. As they now are able to have mates we all saw that they were the priority here. The suite in the main house is for Finley and her mate, but there are three other bedrooms, so it will be up to you and here if you stay in the suite or a room downstairs. Right now eight of the rooms are taken. We are hoping that Maggie was wrong and that those rooms will be filled.” Kaiden explained

“May we see this map?” Kendal asked

“Of course, Jaco has been working very hard at making it into a world map. We only had a map of Europe so he measured that out and had been filling in the blanks all to size so that her dots fit in the right spots.” Zoe explained as Jaco was running towards them.

“Boat is ready, cost a ton, but well worth it. It is now down in the cove and I made sure it was up to par.” Jaco announced proudly.

“Great, is the map all done too? Emery and Kendal would like to see it.” Zoe asked

“Sure is, right this way.” Jaco said turning so that they followed him.

When they walked back in the house to look at the map they found Maggie alone in the playroom. She had the markers back in hand and a lot of them were at her feet on the floor. She looked up at them as they walked in the room and said "UH OH!" then she started to cry and point to the single blue dot that was no longer in France where it was the night before, now the dot was in the middle of the water.

There were also more dots to the map. As Zoe looked closer she saw that most were only half dots, only one side of them were colored in and they were all over the map. The orange dot was close to the water where the original blue dot was located. Kendal looked closely at the map and then looked at the little girl with fear in his eyes.

"Honey, what happened to this dot?"

"Swim swim." She sobbed and then looked back to the map and pointed to three half dots, "Bad" then she pointed to the orange dot and said "Help." Then she started to cry some more. Kaiden picked her up into his arms and hugged her.

Emery and Kendal looked at each other and bolted out the door. Carmine was just walking in the front door when Emery and Kendal came barreling into him.

"Where's the fire?" he asked

"Finley! Oh god she is in the water we need to go to her now!"

"The team is about to leave, you can hitch a ride. They just started loading it up. The location you gave us is only about sixteen hours away, but that boat will get you there in half the time." Carmine had just finished explaining as Emery pushed past him and ran with Kendal right on her heals.

Chapter 10

Etana

Etana was born and raised in Israel. She belonged to a very private Sect there and her soul mate had found her when she was twenty one. He had decided to leave his Sect and join hers. They were never lucky enough to have children but that never mattered to them. They had just enjoyed each other and spent their time with the Sect. After fifty years of bliss with her soul mate rumors had started to pour in from all over the world. One night, twenty two years ago her whole world was shattered.

She was away on one of her missions to gather more sheep from the mountains. She was the one that was best at this job so she went there about twice a year. Her mate was the best fighter her King had seen in decades and so her mate was always required to stay at the Sect. When she was far into the mountain she felt something snap inside her and then she could no longer feel her mate.

When she managed to get close to the camp she felt them, strange pulls that she never felt, and the pulls of her Sect were all missing. She hid herself far enough away that she could not feel any of them, but she could see them. There were at least twenty men and she was not trained enough to take on twenty men. She watched them with their guns and their fire. They shot down all the animals and set fire to all the homes. Etana could see all the ash and the flowers that grew inside them. Once she saw the men leave she ran to the home that was hers. She saw her mate’s ash, but she knew she could not mourn him that night. She grabbed all of his weapons and anything else she could carry, but the weapons were her priority.

She spent ten years in the mountains training herself with his weapons. She started with his knives. He had already started to train her with them so she knew how to hold them. She just needed to learn to become one with them. Once she had mastered his throwing knives she moved on to his whip. The whip took a lot longer to master because she kept catching herself with the end of it. It took her another three years to get her body into the shape she thought she needed it.

After thirteen years of training herself in the mountain, she joined the Israel army. There she learned all kinds of hand to hand maneuvers and how to use a gun. She did her mandatory time of two years in the army and then set out on her own. She wanted to hunt them all down and protect any Dragon that was left alive. She had heard in those rumors that the killing was everywhere and not just her Sect.

She hunted the men down as they had hunted her mate down. She was on a revenge mission and they were the ones that were going to pay. Etana had only the money she earned while she served in the army so she traveled on foot everywhere. She had only ever run into the men when she went to large cities. So far she had only killed six of them. They were becoming harder and harder to find and it had been twenty two years since she had felt another full-blood. So when she arrived in this little seaside town in France she was curious. It was at a school that she saw the full-blood. It was a young girl no more that seventeen and Etana could tell that this girl had not found her mate yet.

She watched the girl for a moment and then saw that the girl was headed toward her. It caught her off guard and she was not sure what she should say to her.

“Hi” the girl greeted

“Hello little one, do you know what I am?” Etana asked. She saw how young the girl was and was unsure if the girl knew the truth.

“My real parents told me last night, but you are the first other person I have felt and I didn’t believe them.” The girl said to her and then it had clicked in Etana’s mind. This girl’s parents were near.

“You need to little one. You are in danger out in the open. Tell me where I can find your parents? I would like to speak with them. Are those yours?” Etana had noticed the men that followed the girl and wanted to make sure that she was indeed safe.

“They are. My parents hired four of them. The other two are at home and will be here after school, so I am fine for now. Thank you. You can’t find my parents unless you go to Ireland. They left either last night or this morning.” The girl informed her and then Etana remembered the rumors about the Sect in Ireland. Her King talked of it often, but he always sounded jealous of the Sect there.

“Rumors are true then or they are trying to follow them. Tell me where you live I would like to make sure there are none around you or following you.” Etana demanded. As soon as the words were out of her mouth a shill beeping noise went off on both of the men following the girl. Etana knew then something bad was happening at the girl’s home. This was her chance to get some more of those worthless bastards.

Etana pushed forward and grabbed one of the men, “Tell me the address now and keep the girl here, the danger they hired you for is at the house and she is safer here. NOW!” she screamed the last part.

The man mumbled the address and then pointed her in the direction and told her it was about a thirty minute drive. Etana ran as fast as she could in the direction the man had pointed. She found the house and felt the men inside. She watched the house for a moment for any movement. As she was watching a car approached and three more of the men went inside the house.

Etana crept around the back of the house and listened to the men talk. They were waiting for the girl to come home and two of the men told the new three that they had killed everyone in the house. She could hear them going through cupboards and then she heard chairs scraping the floor. Etana thought that these men must be sitting around eating and were waiting for the girl to come home. That was not going to happen in Etana’s mind. She would help this young girl.

Etana walked to the back door and opened it. She heard the men stand, but only one came to see. He stood in the hall and looked at her. He took a long look and then fear shown in his eyes. He went to reach for his pistol that was strapped to his hip as he reached Etana threw a knife at his chest. She heard another man coming to catch the first and she threw another knife, but it missed.

The man ducked back into the room he came from and told his men she was not the other girl and that she had killed a man named Scott. She heard them start to move and so she moved into the doorway and just started tossing her knives out. None of them met their mark, but one managed to get one of the men in the leg. As one man fell he knocked a table over and the next thing she saw was fire. It scared her into shock for a moment as the memories came flooding back in her mind. A bullet hit right next to her head in the frame of the door a brought her out of the past. She ducked and ran into another room.

There she saw a man that was dressed similar to the men that were with the girl and grabbed his gun. She ran through a series of rooms until she came to a wall. She felt the men getting closer so she ran to her left and it brought her to a series of windows. She smashed one of them out and jumped out into the front yard. She threw out her senses and felt the pull of the girl coming down the street.

She knew right then that the girl could not come back to the house. Everyone she loved was dead inside and she did not want her to witness the horror of it. Etana could tell from the inside of the house that the girl lived a full life and did not know the truth of their world. The men were reaching the window and she grabbed the first one out and threw him across the yard. The other three barreled through the window, the last was the one with the knife in his leg.

Etana let the three men surround her. The pull of the young girl was now very close and Etana glanced in her direction. Etana punched out at the man in front of her while kicking behind her at the man that was there. She grabbed the third man into her and yanked the knife out of his leg and then into his throat. He crumpled to the floor as shots were fired. Etana glanced back at the girl and saw that the man she had thrown was shooting at the girl. Her man went down and the other pushed the girl back. The girl was as white as a ghost and then the storm started. Lightning hit the man that had been shooting at her and the girl ran to the water.

Etana was stunned for a moment and one of the men grabbed her from behind. She grabbed the arm and thrust her upper body forward, which cause that man to be thrown into the man in front of her. The man that was firing at the girl was now recovering and he took out the other man that was with the girl. He then turned and shot at Etana, a bullet caught her in the leg before she could throw the knife. She was stunned for only a moment before she threw the knife with accuracy catching the one shooting in the throat and taking him down. The man that had caught his brother had grabbed his gun and shot Etana again in her arm. Not her throwing arm though and grabbed her whip out.

She lashed at the remaining me. She caught one around his throat and then pulled. It snapped his neck in killing him instantly. The last man standing tried to run, but Etana had one knife left. She threw it and it logged in the man’s head. When it was all done she went to gather her knives up. Even though fire brought up all her bad memories she ran back into the house first. Most of the knives were in the eating area and she needed them. She ran as fast as she could and quickly gathered up the hot Knives. She placed them into their sleeved that were built into her vest and then ran back outside. The blood from her wounds had started to flow faster as she used her body more and more. By the time she made it outside and out of view of the house she started to fall. Before she passed out she heard sirens so she managed to pull herself a little more into the brush to cover herself and passed out.
