Marcus Lyon sat at his desk reviewing the application for the upcoming charity slave auction in New York. He’d participated twice before and hadn’t been chosen. He closed his eyes and said a small prayer that this time would be different. This time he’d meet a woman who’d see him as the man she needed and not a faceless addition to her collection. He prayed that she’d be genuine, and not into games. After a couple years of being alone, he was ready to re-enter the lifestyle, and settle down into a committed relationship. But experience had taught him to be careful. Not everyone was serious about the way of life he’d chosen to live. There were too many frauds and gamesters. Fortunately, the Dommes who participated in the auction were carefully screened and were the real deal. He picked up the profile he’d just penned as part of the application and read it once more.

Although he was completely unaware of her existence, attorney Vera Knight was on her way to New York to pick up the new man in her life. And while she was at it, she’d jumpstart her stalled writing career and impede her boss’ attempts to get her in bed. Sounded like a lot, but the time-master had knocked hard on her door when she’d turned thirty, six months ago. Fired with a new determination, she’d stepped out from the shadows of fear and regret, prepared to re-take control to re-shape her life with bold action. Taking brisk steps in her black-and-white high-heeled pumps with red piping, she moved with measured intent through the crowded walkways of Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. She sought the flight that would finally take her to Manhattan. Last night her flight had been cancelled due to a mechanical issue, causing her to miss the opening festivities of the charity slave auction scheduled for later that day.

To her dismay, when she’d arrived at the airport that morning, there was another delay. Flight information was slowly updated. A last-minute gate-change announcement had her running to another concourse of the freaking huge airport. The switch consumed the last dregs of her patience.
