Chapter Twenty-Three
Two days
Marty

I think the whole compound is here waiting for Mitch. Well, maybe it’s to hear me talk. I smile because that feels so good. Ben had us come to the Club so everyone would fit. I should have known then what this would look like but I’m so surprised and can’t stop smiling at these people that are showing me support. I change that thought before I cry and Geek freaks out over stressing my throat. That gets me smiling quick. His rough look and gruff voice are at odds with how sweet he is. I watched him kill a man and still think he’s sweet reminding me I definitely need help. We hear bikes pulling up, but I don’t hear the helicopter.

Kate is talking to me about a new volunteer form she wants to add to the hologram board. I don’t tell her it’s just one form again. The last time I tried to explain it she said, since it’s my job, I need that information, but she doesn’t. I stopped trying to explain it to anyone. They deal with broken people all day; they really don’t need to know how the forms work. A cheer goes up and I look at the door smiling. She’s here!

“Sorry we’re late everyone. Bob had a problem with me riding on a motorcycle. I picked Tiny to ride with because he is the biggest shield I saw and I know Nancy would understand.” Everyone laughs.

She goes right to Nancy, “Everyone gets to ride, my husbands are in New York, I used this opportunity to its fullest. Tiny wasn’t sure it would be okay with you, I kind of didn’t give him a choice, I got on his bike and wouldn’t get off. No one in Security would put their hands on me so I knew he’d bring me.” Nancy and Kate double over laughing. When Nancy stands and wipes her eyes she tells Mitch to send her the video. Mitch looks confused and surprised but nods. “Okay. I’ll send it as soon as I get back.”

The men aren’t looking as happy as the women. Little Ben, Jessie and Darren come running through the door and stop. They’re all smiling. “Nice ride Mitch?” Jessie asks and they laugh like it’s a joke.

“It was. If it’s okay I’m riding back with someone not built like a wall.” She’s completely serious and the room laughs.

“You ride with HS or I’m carrying you to the fuckin’ chopper myself and do it knowing Kevin is coming for me when he gets back,” Bob says over the laughing. Everyone gets quiet fast. Holy shit he’s mad.

Mitch is smiling at him. “Okay Bob. I’ll ride with HS. They’re not as big as Tiny and I get to ride back. I really didn’t think I’d get away with it twice.”

“Fuckin’ women!” he yells and walks out. Everyone is trying to hide their laughing.

“Oh dear.” Mitch looks at Amanda. “Sorry.”

Amanda smiles. “As much fun as it is to see you fuck with the Badass boys club we have to get to work. You can ride with Bob. Can you send me the video too?” The women laugh again.

Mitch looks around and finds me at the table. “I will, I’ll do a group email and send it to all the women.” She stands in front of me and pulls her backpack in front of her opening it up. “I bet you could have lived without the whole drama thing. I wasn’t a drama queen until just recently and I find it amusing.” I laugh. She is too much. She has a velvet box the size of a candy box and lifts the lid. There are discs in it all different colors. Some have a jewel on them, some have flowers. They’re all beautiful. “Jeremy said you were the last one he had to give his apology to. He wanted you to know you are important to him and the entire MC. They will understand in time, but for right now you have this from him.” She moves close to my ear and whispers. “He made everyone himself and put tracking on every piece.”

I nod and look for him. CJ is holding him with tears in her eyes. I sign, ‘Thank you.’

He surprises me. “We love you Marty.”

I dip my head and take a breath, then sign back. ‘Yes.’

“This is a thirty second process. Samantha said you are completely healed and I know Samantha has the sign on her wall, but I got a second opinion. Jeremy says she’s right, so let’s do this.” The room chuckles and Mitch looks around. I don’t think she gets when she’s funny. I feel panicked and look around.

“Right here babe,” Geek says behind me and I feel his hand on my back. He has Aubrey in his arms.

I nod at Mitch. “It is as easy as twist and snap. The volume control is a small button; the release to twist it off is on the opposite side of the volume. I’ll put it on and you can take it off and put it on yourself. Don’t say a word until you put it on yourself. When you speak you have to remember to enunciate each word and move your mouth as if the sound is coming out from there. It’s the only way the muscles will work right to produce the sound we are looking for.”

I nod because I thought about what those first words should be. I wait while she puts it on me then shows me what button is where. I push the release and have it in my hand. Putting it back I take another with a daisy like my favorite Aubrey picture. I clip it in and Mitch is bouncing. I smile at Geek and Aubrey. “I love you Aubrey and Geek.” Tears run down my face, I talked, and it sounds close to my voice.

Mitch is clapping and everyone cheers. I hold Geeks hand tight and look around. “Thank you Jeremy and Mitch.”

Ben yells for everyone to get to work. He has tears in his eyes and I laugh scaring myself. Geek laughs and I look up at him, he’s got tears too. “I love you Geek. I’ve waited forever to say that.”

He crushes me in a hug and Aubrey laughs. “A fuckin’ beautiful sound babe.”

Aubrey slaps his shoulder. “Let me down Daddy. I hear her talk all the time. Maybe she’ll sing for you. It’s pretty.”

Mitch laughs reminding me she’s still here. Geek steps back and I turn back to her wiping my eyes. “That was perfect. You need to work on enunciating. Try singing it will sound stupid but
Do Re Mi,
from
The Sound of Music
might work best. It has a great mix of vowels and consonants.”

“I will,” I say as I’m signing then I laugh.

“So many people need sign language, don’t lose it,” she says and signs smiling.

‘I won’t.’ “Thank you so much for making what I could only dream about a reality. I don’t know how to say what this feels like in my heart.” The words sound off but she understands.

“I think you did just fine. I lived with one hand for a long time. I know that feeling. Live your dream Marty, everyone deserves a future, I’m glad we’ll be able to hear yours.” She kisses my cheek and walks away putting her backpack on.

I look at Geek. “She’s unbelievable,” I tell him and he laughs.

“She is and I love hearing you say it.” He kisses me and I hear me moan. I pull my head back and look at his face.

He’s smiling but his eyes are intense. “Just like I imagined.”

“Marty I’m taking Aubrey to school and Pres said remember the cameras,” Jessie says making us laugh.

“Taking my girl home,” he says to me.

“I hope to bed so I can try out the moan again.”

Jessie laughs. “Think you need to hit the volume with shit like that.”

“Get the fuck out!” Geek yells at him. I laugh pulling him to the door but stop when I see Ben.

“I bet it feels good to be heard again,” he says smiling.

I nod and sign but say, “Yes it does, it feels strange, but good.”

He laughs. “Fuckin’ strong women. I’m happy for you. If you have problems or something doesn’t work right let me or Mitch know. From what I understand you are the very first to get a voice. It may take some adjustments to get it right and we won’t know unless you tell us. So tell us.”

“I will. I hope this works for other people too.” I start signing then put my hands down before I finish saying it.

“If I know Mitch it will. She finds a way to help her friends but ends up helping the world.” He kisses my head. “I’m happy for you Marty. Go. Have fun telling Geek all the things he hasn’t heard before.”

I laugh and pull Geek away signing and saying, “Thank you.”

She’s quiet on the way home. I thought she’d be talking the whole way but she doesn’t say anything. I want to hear that voice again, she sounds like a blues singer, throaty and deeper than I thought, but it fits her.

I pull into the garage. “Home,” she says and I want to moan. My dick jumps liking that sound. This could definitely be a problem in public.

“Why so quiet on the ride here?” I ask pulling her out.

She smiles. “I didn’t want you to get sick of my voice before I got to use it more. I realized you can just pop the chip out to shut me up.” She signs as she talks.

I bust out laughing. “This is true but the chip is yours, a part of your body that you control, and there is nothing in me that would take that control away from you. Just in case you missed it, I’ll say it again babe, I love the sound of your voice.”

She laughs. “I’ll remind you of this very moment when you get pissed at me.”

“Good to know. You’re getting clearer the more you talk. Let’s go in so I can find out what you sound like with my tongue on your pussy.” I’m already pulling her to the door and she moans. “I’m loving the moan babe.”

In the room I swing her around to face me. “This is all you babe and I want to hear everything and anything you want to say. I know this is new; there is nothing you can say in here that is wrong, if you feel it I want to know it. Yeah?”

She’s got the biggest smile on. “Yeah.” I taste that smile and love when she moans in my mouth. I can’t get her clothes off fast enough ripping her shirt off she laughs and I take my mouth off hers to see it. “I love when you do that.”

“Mmm, me too. Sit so I can get your pants off.”

She does pulling my shirt off before I reach her shoes. “I like seeing your tattoos.” I love hearing that and let her know, kissing her while I get the rest of her clothes off. Since she’s sitting the panties are torn too. She moans and I’m ready to lose it. Jesus.

I pull away and tip her back. “No pillows so I can see you, just going by your sound babe, make it good.” She fuckin’ moans again and my mouth is on her. She moves her legs to my shoulders knowing just where they belong and how to dig her heels into my back. “Fuckin’ nice babe.” I hear her breathing heavy and get back to it hoping for my name when she comes. She’s making the sweetest fuckin’ sounds. Since I’m a greedy fuck I move my hand to her nipple and squeeze. She cries out a yes and I take her all in, feathering my tongue on her, working for her sounds. Her heels dig in and hands grab my hair while she begs me not to stop–like it is an option. I know just how she likes it and give her everything she needs to get there.

When she comes, arching her back, heels digging in, and that husky voice crying out my name, she has me running code in my head to keep from going with her. Fuck that is the sexiest fuckin’ sound I’ve ever heard. I give her no time, wanting to feel her pussy squeeze my dick, I stand dropping my pants and slam into her with a moan matching hers.

“Please, Geek?”

“Sexy as fuck sound. What does my girl want?” I don’t slow down but watch her face as I hit her fast and pull out slow. I love that drooping lid look.

“Harder. Please harder.” She’s holding one tit and digging her nails in my arm.

“Any. Thing. You. Want.” I roll into her with every word. “Fingers on your pussy babe. Make. It. Good.” She does. Her back arches, pussy clenches down and she screams shocking the fuck out of me. “Sexy. As. Fuck. Sound. Babe.” I flip her and pull her ass closer to me sliding back in hard. She’s moaning pushing me to the edge again. Her arms let go dropping her head onto the mattress but I can’t stop. Those fuckin’ moans are driving me faster until that heat runs through me. I come hard and drop just above her. My mouth finds her ear, “Fuckin’ sexy voice babe.”

“Mmm, you too.” She mumbles out and my dick jumps in her. Jesus. I bite her earlobe smiling and pull out so I can wash my sexy girl.

Chapter Twenty-Four
Two days
Geek

I race to Security wondering what’s going on this time. VP should give a heads up with his, “Get to Security.” Tam gives me my messages. With OC and email I don’t know why someone would call and leave a message for me. They always say the same thing, they’ll email or OC me. Today I get one from Josh at HR and wonder what this is about. “VP called, where am I going?” He pulls his tracking and tells me HS Surveillance. On my way I call Josh.

“Brother. With Marty getting us the hologram programs and forms I’m afraid we won’t need her as much. She’d still have a job but it wouldn’t require as many hours and I want to take her from an HR desk and put her into IT. She’s the best IT we have in the building and she’s not even in IT right now.”

“Fuck. She loves that job. Thanks for telling me. When do you tell her?” This sucks. I need to do something to lift her after this one. Maybe Mitch can use her in one of the businesses she’s putting up. I realize he hasn’t answered and I stop. “You already told her?”

“No Brother. I hoped you would tell her,” he says it like a question.

“What the fuck? Why are you putting this on me? She works for you.”

“Did you see the Brother she fucked up? It’s not like I can defend myself with her.”

I laugh. “No fuckin’ chance of me doing this for you.”

“Fuck.” I hear him take in a breath.

“I’m in a meeting, good luck Brother.” I hang up before he answers.

When I open the HS door Mitch is with VP in his circle. Jerry is watching them with a frown. “You wanted to see me?”

VP says, “Thank Fuck! The board doesn’t work.”

I nod but look at Mitch. “I have the glass for the hologram but he’s not saying what doesn’t work. It carries information that would be helpful to both Steve and Jerry.”

I can see why it would be a problem and think of a way to get it out of the center of the console. I look up. The ceiling is high but it should be able to suspend from there.

“The problem is the placement and not the actual board?” Mitch asks.

“This whole area is used, at times he’s standing at the back, sometimes he’s pacing. The board in the middle isn’t working for him. If it’s suspended or maybe even switched to above the console but under the screens he could see the information and it wouldn’t make him feel boxed in.”

“Yeah! What he said,” VP says loud making me smile.

Mitch laughs. “I can do that. So you can see the board now?”

VP throws her chin, “Yeah, like it.” He turns around and walks out.

Jerry cracks up making me laugh. “Why is he red?” I ask Jerry.

He looks at Mitch, she’s looking at the monitors then walks out of the console and goes behind them. Looking back at me, “There’s a meeting coming up that’s just MC and has him upset,” he says with his hands palms up.

I nod and watch Mitch. “I think above the console is better too. He’s used to looking at the console for information.”

She comes back around. “I need to split the board for this.”

The glass is too heavy for the top of the console. “When the President gives a speech he uses screens to read his point off. Can VP see it if it was a screen?”

She’s looking at the board. “We could make the screen so he can. I need to run the information to different boards for him.” She sits beside Jerry.

“I can get paper up for now to see how it will look,” Jerry says.

She shakes her head no. “Can you find two more projection bases?” She says distracted. She’s going to do this right now.

I sit beside her and pull up the hologram board. Looking over I see where she is. “I’ll get the bottom written.” She looks at me surprised then nods. I move distance and the team roll to a separate board and she’s finishing the second. Fuck she’s fast. She deletes the main board and replaces it with the first board code. I pull the base from the Plexiglas and set it on the top of the console’s back wall. When I stand back and look it’s on, but it seems off. I stick a pen under the back side and have it project toward the center of the circle. Stepping back it looks better. I open drawers and look for something a little thicker. Mitch hands me her hair thing, it’s concave and higher in the center. I put it under and she stands back with me. “I think that will work for him, if you get the screen built it won’t be so heavy and he can scan while going up to the main screens.”

“Scan?” She’s smiling.

“When he’s red his mind works like a computer. He doesn’t look so much as scan, he takes everything in and it gets filed. Everything works like rapid fire for him.”

She’s looking at me but not really. I can almost see her mind working. “He scans like a computer and pulls the most likely outcome. That’s why he’s so effective as a lead.”

“He’s like that in everything. If he’s stressed his mind jumps to red looking for a fix. When he’s on a job, in a meeting, it doesn’t really matter what it is, he jumps and works it out.” I shrug. “He’s been like that since I’ve known him.”

“I can see that. With the way he was talking before you got here, he’s red. He is like Jeremy while he’s working something out, he can’t focus on small things, like putting the words together to get his point across. He kept saying the board doesn’t work, but meant the location doesn’t work. How did you know?” She’s watching me with her eyebrows drawn down.

“I’ve worked with him since I was sixteen. He spent time teaching me everything the government taught him. It was intensive and I learned about his red then. He talks different and drops words and letters depending on his stress level.” I shake my head no, that isn’t right. “I don’t think it’s really stress, I think his focus. The harder he’s focusing the less his normal speech pattern works. He’s always just said what he needs to, in red you get less of it, and sometimes have to decipher.”

She nods but doesn’t say anything. Jerry comes back with two bases. “These are the last two,” he says handing them to me.

I pull the chips and hand them to her. She plugs them into the back of the computer in the wireless ports. I set the bases on the console plugging them into the floor exit. It looks like hell from here, but we can fix it later, for now I just want to see them work. I throw markers under the bases and go around to see.

Jerry sits. “This is better than the straight board. I can see everything without scrolling for the information.”

Mitch looks at him then me. “I need more bases.” She pulls her phone walking away.

“I’ll call Danny to get the electrician back.” I pull mine and tell Danny what I’m looking for with the cord and with the angle we need the bases at.

When I’m done I write the boards in three sections for Rich. He comes to VP’s and wants the destination lowered and the roll moved to the top. I switch it around and he looks at the other two. “That works for me I like it above the monitors better.” He goes back to his circle talking to Bull.

Mitch is called out and I write the boards for Pres’s console. When she comes back a little man is with her carrying screens. “This is Red. He’s my handler for Baxter Corp. Jess got the screens built right away for me. I love my kids.” She smiles making everyone around her smile. Danny comes in with a tool box and some wood. He gets the screens up in minutes and I call VP down.

A Prospect comes in with the bases for the other consoles and Danny gets them in place. We’ve spent two hours together and changed the way information is seen on every console. Pres has me put the boards up the opposite way so his roll is the first board. Everyone is happy and I go back to VP. “Does the screen work for you?”

“Yeah,” he says looking from the monitor to the boards. He’s scanning the hologram screens as he goes up. He’s been doing this for a few minutes and I wonder if something isn’t working.

“Do you need the order changed or me to move anything for you?”

“No. I got it. It’s good.” He throws chin and leaves. What the hell has him so off?

Pres is thanking Mitch as he walks over. “Does the screen work for VP?”

I nod. “Yeah, he said its good and he has it.” I look around and see Mitch talking to Rich. “He’s scanning.”

He nods. “We have a meeting at two with the Little Brothers.” No wonder. “Take Danny for some food before the meeting, by the way VP’s acting, it may be a long one.”

I nod. “I will.”

Mitch and Red leave with Pres. Jerry cleans the desktop and tells me he’s out. I go to Danny and help him clean up and get his tools back in his pouch. “Pres told me to feed you before the meeting.”

He laughs. “I wanted to hit the Diner. I haven’t seen Sam and Lorna in a while.”

“I’m good with that.” Any place that feeds him works for me.

* * *

We make the meeting room and I stop in the doorway. Little Brothers and Sisters are here lining the wall opposite the door. They’re an impressive group. As I look at them from left to right I see their positions and connect them to their adult counterparts. With Baxters and the move we’ve been busy so I haven’t focused on how many kids are going and what key positions I need. Brantley being the hardest. He’s a good Brother and worked hard to get to HS IT. As one of the Little Brother’s lead IT, he works two jobs, and never complains when he’s called for HS. I did the same thing when I started. Most Brothers didn’t know I existed, I spent my hours behind a monitor while they were in the Club, and my mornings in the Club while they were asleep.

I shake my head and sit with the Officers, Joey and Sheila. I’m glad Little Ben has them here, they will be an important part of his Club and he’s not afraid to show them and the Officers the respect he has for them.

Pres, VP and Tiny come in. Everyone sits except Pres. “Little Ben will be moving to south Rhode Island with his own Chapter. He’ll be going with our blessing and protection. The move will be a help to us on the I95 corridor as well as allow him to become the President he was meant to be.” The Officers that didn’t know about the move are surprised and chatting back and forth. I notice Dave and wonder why he’s here.

Pres holds his hand up and they stop. “Little Ben you have information for us that will be public? We’ll meet after this for the rest.”

Little Ben nods and stands. “We have a name, ‘Prince of Prophecy.’” He stops waiting for the chatter to die down. The kids have not said a word but they’re watching everyone’s reactions. He holds his hand up and everyone quiets down. “We are planning the move for three months from today. Our move will happen in phases. The town has to be cleaned before the majority of support positions move down. We have Brothers joining from the reservations and the Baxters.” Pres eyes snap to Little Ben. I’m a little surprised at that too and wait for Little Ben to explain, but he doesn’t. “Our Officers are set; Darren is VP, Jessie, Sergeant at Arms. Brantley is IT, Joey Treasurer and Sheila as everything. She’s our Danny.” Everyone is quiet they’re shocked he put women as Officers and it shows on every face. “I thought I’d get a laugh on that one.”

“You’re putting women on as Officers. How do they protect themselves when trouble comes, you put yourself at risk with women protecting you. Not as smart as everyone thinks,” Dave says with a smirk I want to punch off his face.

Little Ben looks at him, but takes a minute to respond. “Have you been to the range lately?” Dave shakes his head no. “I knew before I asked. Every Little Brother and Sister ranks higher than all but a handful of MC, including you, yet every Op we do you’re there. Not one Brother questions your ability to do your job despite the fact that you haven’t seen the range in over two years.”

I look at Pres, but Little Ben doesn’t give him a chance to jump in. “The issue isn’t you, so we’ll go back to my decision to surround myself with the best qualified people I have. Little Brothers have been working HS and Security for a couple of years. Are you saying they’re qualified to protect Pres but not me?” Dave shakes his head no. “So it’s just women that you feel can’t do the job?” Dave decides to smarten up and doesn’t answer.

“You ran women, drugs and whores with this MC. You’ve been here for the years of change but don’t believe in it. I’m okay with that, but understand, I grew up hearing and saying even to this day, ‘We always take care of our girls.’ We never ran drugs and our whores are paid more than minimum wage. I have never seen a woman treated badly from any of my Brothers. I have helped women in the shelters, the Club and our community forever. In Little Brothers and Sisters I was expected to teach the boys and girls to respect women and themselves, build them up and help them fly. So I practice all that our fathers and this Club taught me and you’re telling me, now after all these years of teaching your daughters of their importance and value in this world, it is wrong?” Dave doesn’t say a word.

Little Ben looks at his father then Pres. “Brenna, Elizabeth, Harley, Sandy, Blaze. Do we start teaching them they can only achieve a certain level of competence? Once they reach a boys level they should quit?”

Pres laughs. “Your point is made Little Ben. You won’t get shit from me.” Little Ben throws him chin.

“So Dave, any other issues with my decision?” Dave is pissed and stares at him. “I’m leaving behind a close friend, trusted advisor and loyal Brother to continue those teaching in this Club because it’s
that
important. Another decision that I made for the good of our Club, community and world. This isn’t about your opinion of women this is about the greater good. I have no doubt that, if needed, Sheila will cover my ass just as well as Jessie and Darren would. I shouldn’t have to answer questions about my decisions since it’s my ass on the line and we’re talking about a Club that you have no interest in.”
