She had come again during his feeding, which wasn't
uncommon. The euphoric high of vampire venom often had that effect, even on
other vampires.

"Are you okay?" he said, his nose pressed into her
hair.

"Mmm." She maneuvered, tightened, and unwound
beneath him as if she was settling into a warm bed or snuggling into a blanket.

He smiled. "I take that as a yes?"

She was still feeling the effects of the euphoria, but they
were beginning to fade. "Uh-huh."

"No safe word."

She grinned contentedly, her cheek pressed against the
pillow. "No. No safe word. That was," she sighed,
"incredible."

They lay like that for several minutes, Micah on top of her,
still inside her, snuggled together as he peppered kisses over the back of her
neck, her shoulders, in her hair, and finally down her back as he pulled out of
her and sat up.

"Come on, beautiful. Let me get you cleaned up and into
bed."

He took her hand and helped her off the bed, then lifted her
in his arms and carried her to the bathroom. After setting her on the counter,
he started filling a lilac-scented bubble bath and joined her by the counter,
slipping into place between her legs.

"Lilacs?" She smiled up at him as she draped her
arms over his shoulders.

"Yes. I swung by here the other night when I was out so
I could supply the house with a few things for you."

His lips brushed over hers and she deepened the kiss before
pulling away once more.

"Why, thank you, Mr. Black. You do take good care of
me."

"You're most welcome, Miss Garrett." He gently
caressed his palm over her nipple then bent down and kissed one breast then the
other. "Are they sore?"

Her fingers combed through his hair, and she moaned as his
tongue found her right nipple and swirled softly around it.

"A little, but in a good way."

He switched sides and caressed her left nipple before
tenderly brushing his lips over it.

"This is part of the scene, by the way." He
grinned up at her.

"Oh? What's that? Getting me turned on again?"

He chuckled and stood up, taking her face in his hands.
"No. Tending to you afterward. Caring for you."
Kiss.
"Cleaning you."
Kiss.
"Making sure you're okay."

She arched on eyebrow and nodded dramatically. "Oh, I
can assure you. I'm very okay."

"I'm sure you are." With a final, sweet kiss on
her lips, he went to the bathtub and checked the water then returned to her,
lifted her in his arms, and settled her into the sudsy, hot water.

"How's that? Too hot?"

She shook her head. "It's perfect. Join me?"

He climbed into the tub with her, cleaned her, smoothed his
palms over every inch of her perfect, exquisite body, then pulled her back into
the frame of his torso and held her as they both laid back and closed their
eyes, content to enjoy the feel of the other in the soothing water.

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Late the following morning, with the house shuttered in
darkness, Micah navigated around his kitchen, preparing breakfast for Sam while
she slept. He wore only a pair of sweats and a smile.

In fact, he couldn't stop smiling. Not even the knowledge
that he had to return to work tonight could ruin his good mood.

After loading a tray with homemade pancakes, syrup, eggs,
bacon, sausage, fresh-squeezed orange juice, coffee and tea, he carried it
downstairs and set it on the massive bed where they had spent the day.

"Good morning, love." He leaned over and kissed
Sam's forehead.

She had slept like the dead after their stint in the dungeon
last night. So had he, but today was special, and when he had awakened, he
couldn't contain himself before hurrying upstairs to get everything ready.

Sam stretched and opened her clover green eyes then grinned
sleepily. "Good morning."

"Are you hungry?"

She rolled her eyes. "I just woke up. I'm never hungry
right when I wake up."

"Well, I'm hungry." He climbed into bed beside her
and took a drink of orange juice.

Sam smiled at him. "What's up with you?"

"Oh nothing, Mrs. Black."

She sat up and huffed. "How many times do I have—?"

"Uah!" Micah held up his hand to stop her.
"You're Mrs. Black. End of discussion."

She held up her left hand and flashed her empty ring finger.
"Not until I see a ring on this finger, Mr. Black."

Micah pulled his other hand out of his pocket and held up a
platinum band with nine diamonds around the top.

"You mean like this one?"

Sam gasped, her eyes opening so wide they looked like
saucers. She stared at the ring for several seconds before tearing her gaze
away to meet his.

"Give me your hand, Sam." He reached for her left
hand.

She slowly lifted it to him. Her fingers were shaking.

"I may have flaws, and I may not be human, but I want
you to share my name for the rest of our days in the human traditions to which
you were born." He held the ring poised in front of her finger. "Will
you be mine forever, Sam?"

Tears threatened to fall, but she held them back.
"Yes."

He slid the ring in place, lifted her hand to his mouth, and
kissed the row of diamonds, his lips pressing against the soft skin of her
finger as he did. "Can I finally call you Mrs. Black now?"

"You play dirty."

"I like to win."

"Do you now?"

"Uh-huh." Micah kept hold of her hand. "So?
Can I? Call you Mrs. Black?"

Sam didn't answer right away then said. "You really are
incorrigible, you know that?"

"Just answer my question." He grinned, feeling
victory within reach.

"Okay. Fine. You can call me Mrs. Black. Happy
now?"

She looked adorable in mock-pissed-off mode.

"Yes. Very." He squeezed her hand.

She shook her head and tried to hide her smile by turning
away from him. A moment later, she brought her gaze back to his. "I love
you. I
really
love you."

"I love you, too.
Mrs. Black.
"

She rolled her eyes and laughed. "What have I gotten
myself into with you?"

"A lifetime of love, happiness, and devotion…with the
occasional possibility of danger, death, and mayhem."

"Oh, of course." She rolled her eyes as if to say
how
silly of me.
"What relationship wouldn't be complete without a little
threat to life and limb?"

Micah tugged her hand. "Come here, you."

She was in his arms in an instant, holding him so tightly he
could feel her heartbeat against his chest.

"I'll take good care of you, baby."

She exhaled as if she'd been holding her breath. "I
know. And I'll take good care of you."

Micah held onto her and breathed her in. If anyone was up to
the task of taking care of him, it was Sam. His Sam. Fearless and strong. The
mother of his future children.

Micah couldn't wait until his next
calling.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I have always loved to write. I don't remember a time when I
wasn't writing, reading, or dreaming up stories to keep me entertained in
boring situations. I would lie in bed at night and conjure up all kinds of
worlds and stories. My mind never turned off and was always filled with
daydreams and fantasies, and I often wrote them down. When I was in junior
high, my stories turned to more romance, and I filled notebooks with romantic
escapades my friends and I took with our favorite band, Duran Duran. I always
got John or Simon. LOL. At any rate, my friends ended up unofficially voting me
as Most Likely to Become a Romance Novelist. Ha ha, right? But here I am, doing
just that, writing romance novels. Prophetic, right?

I actually worked in the corporate world for over twenty
years in office management and as an executive assistant to the owners,
presidents, and vice presidents of corporate America, but in July 2010, I lost
my job. Thus began a year-and-a-half journey of finding myself and what my
future held. That's when I discovered role playing and met my co-author, who I
work with now under the pen name, Jem Stone. Role playing (RP) served its
purpose, and I met some truly wonderful people, but I eventually realized it
prevented me from accomplishing what I wanted: Getting published. So, I hung up
my RP hat and focused on writing, and my first short story, Moonlit Hearts, was
published in September of 2011 in an anthology called Evernight.

Silver linings are things I always try to find in every bad
situation, and now I realize the silver lining in losing my job was seeing that
I was supposed to become a writer. My journey in the corporate world had been
over for a long time and I had only been putting off my true calling by forcing
myself to stay in the workforce. Losing my job was Fate's way of telling me I
needed to get on with what I was really meant to do, the business of becoming
an author. So that's what I'm going to do, and I have several projects in the
works, including several stories in the AKM series. I hope you all continue to
follow me along this very exciting journey, and I hope I can continue to give
you stories you enjoy and which will give you a pleasant break from reality
when you need it.
