“What?” Katlyn wondered what he was thinking; she could almost see the wheels turning in those beautiful eyes. She grabbed a couple of glasses and filled them with ice water.

“You are a very unusual woman.” Micah ran a hand over his chin slowly assessing her. She was young; maybe twenty-five but looked younger. What in the world was a woman of her age doing out here by herself? It wasn’t safe this far out away from others of her kind. Surely there should be a man here to protect her. If they had been on his world there would be a man here; a husband, a father, a brother; someone to watch over her, to take care of her. Could this place be so different? Were the women here that different? There was much that he still needed to learn.

“How am I unusual?” Katlyn asked setting the glass in front of him and sitting in the stool across the island.

“I have broken into your home, told you that I am not leaving anytime soon and you are calmly handing me a drink without screaming for help. It is perplexing.” He crossed his arms over his chest and looked at her as if he was contemplating something. “Either you are planning something or you are not afraid. As of yet I am not sure which.”

Katlyn smiled at him, “I am not the type of woman to panic over things until I have no other choice. Besides, as I am sure you know, there is no one around to hear me if I scream. So tell me who you are, what you are running from and why you are here. Oh, and what was that that you did to me.” Katlyn took a slow drink and waited patiently for him to answer her questions.

“You are not what I was informed to look for. I was told the women here are loud and panicky, temperamental and unstable. I was told to be very careful of your species in general actually.” Micah smiled sardonically at her, “My name is Micah Stitchna. I am not from around here as you can see. What am I running from? Well, I am trying to stay ahead of the men that are in the forest at the moment.”

He looked down at the
glass in his hand and wiped the condensation from the edge with his thumb deciding on what he could expose. “Why am I here?” He ran a hand through his hair and blew out a breath slowly. “I'm not sure I can share that with you just yet, it is complicated. As for what I did to you, it is a calming technique that my people are equipped with. It has its usefulness.” He smiled crookedly at her and sipped the water. Telling her about his mission would not go over well he was sure. It was way too soon. “This is good, thank you.”

“Only the women are spoken of as being temperamental and unstable? I think I should be offended.” Katlyn smiled up at him and took another sip of water as he glanced out the window. Following his gaze her smile disappeared, this was not good. Glancing out the windows in the kitchen and the sun room she could see lights in the forest through each. There really were people in the woods and it looked like they were pretty much on every side of the house. She could see the floodlights they were using and they were close.

“Come with me.” Katlyn didn't like the look of the lights outside, they were getting closer and the officer she saw earlier could very well pop in again. If he did and Micah was found sitting here like this, there would be questions. The unusual red suit he wore would raise a few eyebrows; she was no seamstress but even she could tell that the material was vastly different from anything she had ever seen. Not only that but it had a very distinct military look to it; it looked almost like a military flight suit. As he had said, it was pretty obvious that he was not from here. Katlyn chuckled to herself as she rose from the table; little green men be damned.

He raised an eyebrow wondering what had caused the soft chuckle but rose to follow her. “It is nice to meet you Micah. I know I am asking a lot for you to trust me but can you?” He needed to trust her; those lights were coming really quickly and if he didn’t trust her there might not be much chance for him.

“Do I have much choice?” He sighed and followed her up the stairs to the bedrooms. He shouldn’t have come straight here once he saw the house. He should have left a trail away first and then circled back. Instead, he had led these men straight to her endangering not only himself but her also. He cursed himself silently for the error. “I am sorry to have gotten you involved in this.”

Katlyn smiled back at him, “Everyone needs help at some time or another. If I find you some clothes can you please change out of the uniform? If that guy comes back I would feel a lot better if you were in something else.” Katlyn dug through her drawer and pulled out a pair of men's PJ bottoms. She always bought them big so that they would be comfortable to sleep in; hopefully these would work for him.

“Why are you helping me?” Micah began to unfasten the jumpsuit and pulled it off his shoulders; all the while holding her deep brown eyes with his. This didn’t make sense; she had no reason to help him. If anything she should be very weary of him.

“Well, I spend a lot of my day judging people by the way they act, the way they interact. I have always used my gut instinct, I can't do anything else now and my gut instinct is telling me that this is what I should do.” Katlyn handed him the PJ's and smiled up at him. She would almost bet that he was not a threat to her; there was just something in the way he spoke to her that put her at ease. Granted he may have been doing some more of the mood control thing but she didn’t think so, she couldn’t feel it if he was.

Raising an eyebrow he gave her a perplexed look not understanding her reference, “Gut instinct?” The jumpsuit was down to his waist, showing off the golden brown skin of a nicely toned, completely smooth chest. Katlyn noticed a small tattoo over his heart. It was almost a yin yang symbol; two halves separated about an inch but mirroring the other.  Fleetingly she wondered what it stood for.

Placing her hand over her heart she tried to explain, “Instinct? Hmm, the feeling right here that lets you know you are doing the right thing.”

Micah nodded slightly, “I know this feeling.” He pushed the jumpsuit the rest of the way off and slid the PJ's on. Rubbing the material between his fingers Micah frowned; this material would not due. “These are not very protecting.”

“No, they are for sleeping; which is what you will be pretending to do if the cop comes back.” Katlyn looked at him pointedly. Surely he understood the importance of this.

“Ahh, so you wish for me to pretend to be your mate.” Micah could not help but tease her; she looked completely serious standing there with her hands on her hips. He smiled slightly as he thought of his mission. If she only knew what he was here for she would not find this conversation funny.

“It will be the easiest to explain and least likely to raise questions.” Katlyn took the jumpsuit and folded it. “This needs to be put away out of site.” She opened the cedar chest at the end of the bed and placed it in there under a couple of blankets. “Here we go. Now, are you hungry? Tired?”

“I am a little hungry and very tired.” Micah reached out and touched her smooth arm, enjoying the feel of her warm skin against his, “Thank you for your help.” She was being very considerate to him; again it was not what he had been expecting.

Katlyn
looked up into those deep grey eyes, “You're welcome. Maybe tomorrow you will be willing to give me some answers. Come-on, let's get you something to eat.” Katlyn moved out of the bedroom and back down the stairs to the kitchen, “Oh and you may not want to pull that calming trick on anyone else around here. It’s pretty disconcerting.”

“I will remember. Thank you.” Micah followed her down the stairs and wondered what type of food she would give him. This world was turning out to be a lot different than he had read about. The woman was one part; her attitude and caring nature was so different than he had been lead to believe. What other differences would he find before he left?

“It's early so maybe peanut butter and jelly?” Katlyn pulled the jelly out of the fridge and opened the cabinet to grab the peanut butter. “Can you grab the bread?”

Micah looked around, “Bread?”
There was nothing resembling a loaf of bread on the table or counter.

At his lost look
Katlyn pointed at the oblong container in corner of the counter. Ahh, it was wrapped in some type of protective wrapping. Micah grabbed it and handed it to her. It seemed things were not the same as in the books he had studied. He would have to pay closer attention.

“Thank you.
” quickly Katlyn threw together three peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and handed them to him. The skeptical look the covered his face as he picked one up and turned it this way and that had her laughing.

“Trust me, you'll like it.” Katlyn sat on the stool to watch him while he ate. His hesitation was almost comical. It looked like he was almost afraid to try it.

Micah took a timid bite and almost immediately moaned. The taste of this was amazing; smooth and sweet, almost like the desserts from his world.

The moan took
Katlyn off guard; it was a sound of absolute pleasure that she felt low in her stomach and heat flooded her body. It took her a second to realize what was happening. Somehow his pleasure was radiating outward where she could feel it herself. This feeling stroked across her body like a warm breeze, touching every inch of her skin; it felt like a lovers caress. If she closed her eyes for just a second she would be able to loose herself in the pleasure that was surrounding her. The pleasure stroked her as if it had gained a physical presence, causing her to tighten her grip on the arms of her chair. The strangeness of this was so extraordinary; to know that what you were feeling was not your own pleasure but from the person you were watching; to barely have any control over your body.

“What is this that you have given me?” The question was rhetorical and he was not really looking for an answer, thank the Lord, because at the moment Katlyn was unable to mutter a word. Slowly, concentrating, Katlyn took another sip of her water and tried to appear unaffected by the sensations floating over her skin. Every time he took a bite and moaned in pleasure she could feel her body tighten further.

“Good?” Katlyn clamped down on the pleasure radiating through her body and tried to smile as he finished the last bite. How in the world was he doing this?

“Your food here is exceedingly good.” Micah leaned back in the chair and smiled slowly at her. She was flushed and he could almost smell the need circling her. This was an unforeseen factor. It looked like the women here became aroused very easily, that was certainly different.

Katlyn’s eyes narrowed at the look that passed over his face. Damn him, he knew the effect his eating had on her, he knew that his pleasure manifested in her. How in the world did he do that? If the men around here could do that they would have one heck of a weapon.

Katlyn stood and took his plate to the sink. “Now, time to let you rest. Come on and I'll make you up a bed.”

“You told the man at the door that your name was Katlyn.” Micah stood and pushed the stool back in place before he opened the back door. He had left his back out back while he snuck in. Reaching down he grabbed a bag off of the floor of the porch and brought it in.

Katlyn looked it over as he held it in front of him, i
t looked to be made from the same unusual material as his jumpsuit but the design was pretty plain. It actually looked like any duffle bag you could buy from any second hand store.

“That's correct. My friends call me Kat.” Katlyn moved into the living room and proceeded up the stairs when his hand on her arm stopped her. On the second step they were almost at eye level with each other.

“Thank you, Kat. For all of your help, you don’t know what this means to me.” Micah ran his fingers across her soft skin. He was enjoying touching her, her skin was so smooth and every time he ran his fingers across her skin she blushed softly in an almost shy manner. There was a connection between them, that was a good start.

Katlyn covered his hand with hers; “You're welcome.” She said smiling into those bottomless eyes. Needing a distraction she looked up at the room at the top of the stairs. “The room isn’t much, kind of small actually, but I guess it will do.”

Katlyn watched his eyes flood with amusement as they stood there, “I thought I was to pretend to be your mate. Do your men allow separate quarters for sleeping?” Micah held back his chuckle at the look of shock and then amusement that crossed her face. This woman was so very different than what he was used to. On his world the women would not be here in this house alone, they were fragile, needing protection; this woman although small did not seem to be afraid. It seemed that living alone was the normal around here no matter if you were male or female.
