Smiling, I darted off to get dressed. This would be good for Halley and Marcus too. They needed alone time so that maybe she could relax around him and not be so tense wondering whether or not she was pregnant. I peeked out my window. Most of the people I saw were wearing shorts. I figure it must be warm out. My blue jean shorts were lying in a pile on the floor. I’d bought them from Express a few weeks back. I remember that trip because Halley begged to walk in there and reluctantly I followed complaining the entire time and I fell in love with how these shorts fit me. I quickly stopped complaining and bought them. I even bought a three quarter sleeve shirt that she said I just had to have. The pink V-neck shirt looked amazing, I have to admit. I threw it on and sprayed my favorite perfume. I applied makeup to ensure I didn’t look entirely dead from last night and brushed my hair. I really loved having wavy hair when it lay just right. I slid on my charm bracelet. I was officially ready for the day.

I sauntered out to the kitchen looking for my flip flops. “Ohmigod I told you that shirt and shorts were amazing on you!” Halley was beaming at her expertise. I had to give her total credit for this.

“Yes, thank you!” I spun around modeling the outfit and Trevor whistled. He grabbed my hand and we all said our good byes.

Where was he taking me? It was a beautiful day so the possibilities were endless. “I thought we could walk, is that ok?” Ok it was somewhere close. I had no idea where he was thinking.

“Sure baby, whatever you want.”

We walked hand in hand a few blocks down and came up to
Molly’s shop. He stopped in front and we walked inside. What charms could he possibly be buying now? The last one was his heart and unless there was one for crazy girlfriend then I wasn’t sure what he was doing. He began looking through the charms. Several were picked up then placed right back down. I couldn’t get an eye on what they were. He grabbed the letters “T” and “M” and a tiger. They actually made those? He paid for them then walked me outside. We sat on a bench and he removed my bracelet to put them on.

“T is for me. Because I am all yours. M is for you, of course. And I never want you to forget our time at the zoo. Now you have two tigers. That day was the best day I’ve had in a long time. I love you Macy.” He leaned in and kissed my lips before placing the bracelet back on my arm.

I loved it. Absolutely loved it. He was amazingly sweet. I don’t know what I did to deserve all this. I kissed him back and whispered, “I love it so much thank you. I love you too.”

He placed his arm around me and we sat for a few minutes watching others walk by. The faint sound of music came from around where the park was. We got up and walked in the direction of the music. A small festival was going on. I had forgotten all about this. I remembered Gary telling me about it. Different local bands were playing. It was really cool to see everyone out. It was like being at a giant wide open bar.

“Hey how come you and the band don’t play this? This could be great for you guys.”

“Honestly, I’m not looking to make it big. I just enjoy playing the music. As long as I’m playing music and with you I am perfectly content.”
It was true. He had a certain peace that came over him while he was on stage. It was mesmerizing to watch him.

We were looking for somewhere to stand or sit when s
omeone came walking by and noticed Trevor. “Oh hey you’re that guy from The Lounge. You guys playing here today? I must have overlooked your name on the roster.”

I gave Trevor a, see I told you so look
, I wanted to stick my tongue out at him and rub it in more but I didn’t. He just stood there watching me and then replied, “No man, we’re not. I’m just here listening.”

“Dude you should to
tally sing. You’re good, really good. I’d love to hear you up there.”

“I don’t have my band with me, just my girl. Or I could definitely sing a song or two.”

“Well I bet one of the bands would play for you. Matter of fact I know they will. Follow me.” The guy led Trevor and I back behind stage where he whispered to another band that was getting ready to take the stage.

“Mace, I’ll only sing if you sing with me.” My jaw dropped and I wasn’t sure what to say. I mean I was used to singing inside The Lounge but there was a ton of people here.
Way more than what I was used to. I didn’t want to embarrass Trevor at all if I got up there and completely lost it.

“Trevor, I don’t know if I can sing in front of a crowd like this.” I crossed my fingers praying no one would want to play for Trevor to sing.

I was so very wrong. The guy came up and announced, “ Good news bro, the band that’s about to go up said after their last song they will play anything you want as long as you sing it.”

Screw me! Trevor looked at me and grinned then looked at the guy. “Thanks man you got a deal. I’ll figure out what I’m going to sing and I’ll let them know.”

“Alright, I’m stoked this is going to be awesome.” The guy walked off back towards the crowd.

“Trevor, what in the hell are we going to sing
? I don’t want to please don’t make me!” I sounded like a little kid begging their parents to not make them eat their vegetables, but I didn’t care. My palms were sweating and my nerves were on end. What if I opened my mouth to sing and nothing came out.

“Baby, don’t stress we got a few minutes to figure it out. You will do fine.”

The band playing reminded me a lot of Trevor and the guys. The crowd loved them. They were jumping around and singing along. They had amazing energy.

I stared at Trevor. “Give me some ideas. I’m racking my brain here. I didn’t know when I walked out my front door today I would be singing for a shit load of people.
Never mind scratch that. I’m not singing. You go out there and do your thing. I’ll be right here watching, just like we were at The Lounge.”

We had heard everything from country to rock in the few minutes we’d
been here. I had no idea what he was going to sing. He didn’t say anything but continued to listen to the band on stage. This band playing was playing a lot of hard rock which I totally loved but he gave me a look. “I think I’ll change things up and go back to the 90’s” A change of pace was more like it.

“What are you thinking babe?”

He looked at me and began smiling. “I’m not telling you because you won’t go sing with me.”

Before I could make a remark, he was motioned onto stage where he whispered to the guys his song choice.
The band began playing ‘Good’ by Better Than Ezra. Ohmigod, I loved this song. Why didn’t he tell me? I glanced at him and when he finally looked, I motioned to ask if I could join him and he waved his hand to me. I ran up the stage and grabbed a microphone. This was way too much fun. The crowd absolutely loved us. When the song ended, it was a good minute or so before I could even hear myself think. This was wild. My adrenaline was pumping. I could feel it coursing through my veins. I remembered why I loved being on stage in the first place.

“Ok, I have an idea. If you don’t like it, we need to decide something else.” He looked at me with his head cocked to the side. “
The guy said you could sing a song or two. What about ‘Broken’, you know the one by Seether. I figure we could slow it down a little since this band just pretty much rocked it out and we just sang that song. Maybe one of the guys could let you play their guitar. It’s just an idea though.”

He grinned from ear to ear. “I love that idea.” The band was just finishing up
the last chords of the song and he whispered to someone who was with the band who shook his head yes and grabbed a guitar. Trevor kissed my cheek and grabbed my hand. “You ready baby?”

Ready or not, it was time. A voice came over the speakers. “
Did you guys enjoy that as much as I did? We have a real treat for you guys this afternoon. Trevor James is going to sing another song for us.” The crowd went wild. Oh my god, there were way more people than I thought when I really looked out from the stage. It seemed like the crowd just multiplied.

Trevor stepped up to the mic
rophone and began talking with the crowd. “How’s everyone doing today? Sorry I didn’t chat before the first song. Do you guys forgive me?” The cheers got louder. “Awesome. I hope you guys don’t mind but my girl is going to sing with me again. Sing along with us.” The crowd cheered and when he began playing the first chords of the song the cheers were almost deafening.

When I sang, it was like no one else was there besides Trevor with me. We were singing to each other. Everything just came natural. The band was more than amazing with us. Being up there was such an adrenaline rush. After the song ended, Trevor looked at me and spoke into the mic
rophone, “I love this girl so much.” With the crowd roaring he kissed me for everyone to see.

We thanked the band again for letting us sing and left the backstage area to mingle amongst the crowd. People were coming up to us telling us how awesome we sounded. I wished I could listen to us again just to hear it. It was overwhelming to see all these people just letting us know how much they liked us. Trevor walked up to a vendor stand to buy us a few drinks and they gave them to us on the house.

We found a spot on the lawn and sat down. Trevor placed his arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him. I sipped on my drink a little and placed it on the ground. I laid my head on his shoulder and we listened to the next band on stage. They reminded me a lot of Mumford and Sons. I really liked them. Well now I did. At first I didn’t give them much of a chance and then one day in my car I actually listened and I became a fan after that. A few songs in they actually covered ‘I Will Wait’. I sang along with them and Trevor kissed my forehead.

After the song finished we listened to a few more
songs from our same spot in the grass. “You ready to get out of here babe?”

“Whenever you are. This was so much fun. I’m glad we sang, I don’t even know how to describe how that felt!” He smiled and helped me up. As we started leaving I heard a voice that sounded a little too familiar. I looked over to find the chunky haired red bitch watching us. I wanted to go punch her face in, but instead I grabbed Trevor’s face and gave him a long hard passionate kiss.
A thank you for today is what I called it. A few people standing nearby gave a few cat calls. I looked over to see flames practically shooting from her ears and I gave her my biggest smile and winked. He was all mine and I had no problem letting anyone else know it, especially her. She walked off looking pissed and she should. This wasn’t a game. This was my happiness and I will always win when it comes to that.

Chapter 12

Marcus and Halley were nowhere to be found when we got back to the apartment. Several hours at the park had worn me out. Trevor sat on the couch and I lay across his lap. My phone was stabbing me in my leg. I pulled it out and saw a text from Halley. She said they had gone out for the day and by the way she had started her cycle. I breathed a sigh of relief for her. I know she was very relieved. She had worried for nothing; I figured that much while she was in her panic. I know she was stressed with work. She was up for a promotion and had been putting in a few extra hours at the clinic. On top of all that, she was attempting to have a social life. Sometimes it’s hard to balance all that. She had a lot on her plate. I wish she were here so I could tell her she worried for nothing and give her a huge hug. She would get her hug when they finally got back.

Speaking of cycles, I opened my period tracking app
out of curiosity and my face went white. I was two weeks late. Why the hell did I think I wasn’t supposed to start for two more weeks? I’ve always kept up with all that the way I was supposed to and I sure have never been late for my period. Ever. I felt my body tense as soon as I realized what was possibly going on and Trevor felt it too.

“Hey
Mace you ok?”

“What
are you talking about? I’m fine baby.”

“You’re all stiff
all of a sudden, you ok?”

I fumbled for the words to say. I had literally just had this talk this morning with Halley but about her and now I was the one about to become a freaking mess. I hadn’t closed the app yet. It was still open on my phone. Trevor caught a glimpse
while I fumbled around to grab it and stared. I hurried and closed it out praying he hadn’t realized what he was just looking at and he silently watched me. It was kinda eerie.

“It’s nothing Trevor.”

“Are you late? I’m not crazy, I know what I just saw on your phone.” My jaw slightly dropped and I looked down. I couldn’t look him in the face. This talk could not possibly be happening right now. He lifted my chin until our eyes met. “Macy. Talk to me.”

“Uh, um, y-yeah. I’m sure
it’s nothing though.” I added the last part quickly. I was terrified and trying not to hide it. I badly wanted to text Halley but it was not easy with him sitting right here staring at me.

He stood up and grabbed my hand. “I’m going down to the store and I’m buying you a test.” My eyes grew wide and I stared. I wanted to blurt out that Halley probably had one lying around but I was not going to put her business out there like that.
She would kill me but right now that didn’t sound half bad.

“Um, ok.”
