Amber laughed and wrapped her arms around him.

“Are you OK?” He asked looking down at her upturned face with concern. He’d gotten a little rougher than he intended too.

“I’m wonderful. Are you?” Amber closed her eyes with a satisfied smile spread across her face. Even her wolf was calm and content for the moment. “Is your arm ok?”

Blake had actually forgotten about his arm in the heat of the moment. Even though the cast was cumbersome, he had worked around it. “Arm is fine.” He smiled and held Amber close while she drifted off to sleep in his arms.

While she slept, Blake smoothed his hand lightly over the mark he had left on her shoulder and glanced at the one she had left on his. His fingers wandered to the black stone that hung between her breasts and caressed it absentmindedly. Releasing a long slow breath, h

going to do now. How as he going to explain this?

CHAPTER ELEVEN

A
mber stormed through the small cabin, wanting to grab something, anything, to throw it at him. The room just seemed too small for the two of them, where hours early it had been cozy. Every time she looked at Blake, she wanted to hit him, but also pull him into her arms and kiss him at the same time.

“What have you done to me!?” she demanded to know, running her hand agitatedly through her hair. She didn’t give him time to answer before she stomped off into the bathroom and slammed the door.

Amber stared at herself in the mirror. Her skin practically glowed and her dark chocolate eyes were misted with yellow specs. Her wolf was close to the surface, yet was no help to her at all. The wolf urged her to go to Blake, go to his wolf. Yet, her human instincts warned her to run, run as far away and as fast as she could from the man who had marked her.

“But you marked him, too!” She accused herself sharply in the mirror.

Thrusting herself away from the mirror, Amber spun and slammed the lid to the toilet down and plopped down on top of it. She wanted to cry, but hadn’t cried in years. It was a waste of emotion and she hated the useless feelings she felt after she did.

Amber knew she couldn’t just stay in the bathroom. But she didn’t want to go out there right now, didn’t want to face him. She could hear that he was still, not moving as he waited for her to come out. He was standing in the same spot she had left him when she had started ranting and raving like a mad woman ten minutes earlier.

Plopping her head in her hand she closed her eyes. Her wolf was quiet for a change. “Now you leave me alone,” she mumbled grumpily. She could feel her wolf nudging at her emotions, urging her to calm down.

Amber took a deep breath, opened her eyes, and stared at the door. Drawing another deep breath she could smell his scent, he was all over her, in her now, a part of her forever. With a resigned sigh, she stood and opened the door slowly.

Hearing the door open, Blake turned towards the bathroom to watch her come out. His caramel eyes followed her every move as she slowly walked towards him.

Amber wanted to laugh at the look on Blake’s face, like he was afraid that she might shoot him or something. But he stood his ground when she walked up to him and stopped right in front of him with her hands on her hips. Looking into his eyes, she frowned, staring at him hard. “I may be your mate for life, but that doesn’t mean you own me. I am my own person and I will do what I want,” she said adamantly.

Blake held his hands up, shaking his head. “You are the last person I would try to control,” he told her fighting the relieved smile.

“I have my life and you have yours,” she continued standing with her hands on her hips while she waited for him to deny it. Like any smart man would, he kept his mouth shut and listened. “You have your home, I have mine. I will stay here until I get ready to move on. Just because we are mated doesn’t mean we have to live together.”

Blake did his best to hold his temper in check. His wolf was pounding at him to mate with her again to dominate her. He fought the urge to grab and shake some sense into her, to make her see that he was in control.

Instead, he took a deep breath, and exhaled slowly and talked softly. “Amber, we are mated for life. That means our wolves will claw at us to be together. They will never want to be apart.”

“Well I can control my wolf. You’ll have to learn to control yours,” she stated flippantly. Even though deep down she knew didn’t have control over her wolf like she should have. She was adamant that she was not going to give up her freedom to control the relationship aspect of her life as well.

“My wolf is fully under control.” Grinding his teeth to keep from snapping at her, Blake continued to fight the urge to grab and shake some sense into her. Wisely, he turned and went into the kitchen instead.

Amber wanted to kick him in the ass as he stalked into her kitchen and began rummaging through her cabinets. Sitting the coffee can heavily on the countertop he grabbed the carafe and filled it with water from the water dispenser.

Forgetting she was supposed to be mad, Amber watched him move smoothly around her kitchen. No wasted movements, his every move made with efficiency. She loved the play of muscles in his back that stretched the thin t-shirt. Blake’s jeans fit snugly against his tight butt as he moved around the room.

Blake felt her eyes on him as his back was to her. He stopped, turning from the waist; and caught her staring at his butt. Her eyes darted to his face and her face flamed red at his raised eyebrows.

Amber shrugged and tilted her head to the side and looked at his butt again. “What can I say? You have a nice ass!” she told him saucily and turned around to leave the kitchen.

Before she had turned fully, he was there pulling her into his arms. Moving fast and quiet, Amber never heard him move. She watched as his face descended towards hers, his eyes staring intently at her mouth. Her eyebrows arched as his did when he caught her staring at his ass.

His mouth was less than an inch from hers when he straightened, shrugged, and said, “Nice lips.” He began turning away.

He didn’t get far before he heard her laugh and grab his shirt pulling him back to her. Grabbing his head she stood on the tip of her toes and pulled him down to her, locking her mouth onto his.

Amber didn’t understand what was happening to her. Her emotions were all over the place. One minute mad, the next she wanted to cry, but the whole time she knew all she wanted was to feel him pressed up against her. She was sore from the lovemaking earlier, but she wanted more. Her wolf encouraged her, anger totally forgotten Amber deepened the kiss.

Blake growled low in his throat at her aggressiveness and grabbed her hair, yanking her head back to lean farther into the kiss. Controlling her head with his hands, he held her still to ravage her mouth. Her hands urgently groped and pulled at his shirt. Her body was on fire and wanted to melt into his. She met his demanding tongue with demands of her own.

He pulled back and stared heatedly down into her face. Both of their eyes were dilated to almost black, their wolves close to the surface. Their hands were everywhere at once, all over each other. He yanked her shirt up and exposed her breast to his hot hands and mouth. Her bra provided little protection from his invading mouth. His shirt was pulled roughly over his head and tossed to the ground, where it landed on top of hers.

Blake felt his fur ripple under his skin in excitement. He stopped and stared down at Amber’s bright yellow eyes. She flashed him a smile, pulled from his arms and darted for the door before he could grab and pull her back. Yanking it open Amber ran hard and fast towards the woods.

Blake stood in the door stunned as he watched her run while ripping the bra from her body. Only stopping long enough to strip her jeans off with a look over her shoulder she yelled, “What are you waiting for?” She ran naked to the clump of trees.

Making coffee forgotten, Blake followed her, but didn’t strip as she had. He ran towards the tree he had seen her disappear behind, wondering what the hell his wild woman was up to.

The change this time was not agonizing for Amber. Her wolf emerged smoothly as she knelt on the ground. The wolf’s black coat shined brightly in the morning sun that seeped through the tall trees. She could hear the soft footsteps that fell on the blades of grass and scattered leaves indicating that Blake was running towards her. She could smell his wolf.

As he drew closer the black wolf stepped out from behind the trees. Blake stopped
as he froze
in his tracks, staring in wonder at seeing her in wolf form. He knew her wolf would never attack him, but he remained still as Amber slowly walked towards him. Muscles rippled along her slender frame while she stepped lazily around him.

“How?” Blake asked in stunned silence, sinking to the ground with her nuzzling at the hand he held out to her.

He could see intelligence in the wolf’s eyes and knew that Amber was aware of him. His hands sank into her thick shiny coat, his fingertips buried in the lush fur at her neck. His fingers brushed along the thin leather strip that held the stone he had noticed she wore all the time.

Her wolf allowed him to stroke her, loving the feel of his hands on her. With a low whine, her wolf called to his. Blake felt his skin rippling, his wolf was fighting to be released, to join his mate.

He shook his head in amazement. “How are you doing this? Full moon is not for another few days,” he told her, frowning. He shouldn’t be changing, but he was! Skin crawled with fur, his bones began to contort. Blake stood quickly, shedding his jeans in time. His transformation took place swiftly, painlessly.

She was larger than most female wolves, but his wolf towered over and outweighed her by a good fifty or sixty pounds. Where she was sleek, his muscles bulged while he stood in front of her. His wolf was the perfect male and her wolf was excited.

Amber didn’t know if it would work or not, but she pushed lightly on her thoughts and reached for Blake’s wolf.

Can you hear me?
She asked tentatively.

His wolf stared at her in amazement and smiled a wolfish grin as he nudged her.
Yes baby, I can hear you. How is this happening?
He followed when she turned to head deeper into the woods.

I thought wolves communicated with one another all the time.
She responded.

No, I mean the changing. We aren’t in our phase.

Honestly, I don’t know. Since my change started, I have been shifting all the time. It’s never mattered what the phase of the moon is.

Blake’s wolf was tired of the human side of him monopolizing his mind and pushed for control. Amber and Blake felt the laughter between them as his wolf pushed itself into her side, nudging her deeper into the woods. They lazily began to lope along. Amber’s wolf turned her head and looked at him with amusement in her eyes and took off running. Blake and Amber allowed both of their wolf’s wild instincts to take over and they ran.

They ran through the trees, dodging in and around, chasing each other through the forest. They played like young pups, biting and nibbling, rubbing against each other.

Amber led Blake towards the clearing where she had been many times over the past month. It was the grassy field she had dreamed of that morning, just moments before Blake had woken her with his passion. Her wolf responded to the memory and sent her fur rippling, giving off her feminine scent.

Blake’s wolf nose caught the aroused scent immediately and responded with a deep growl. Amber rolled in the grassy fields like she did in her dreams. The black and gray stalked towards her, around her, keeping his distance instinctively knowing that she would snap at him if she wasn’t ready. This was on her wolf terms, completely. Her wolf had to decide if his wolf was who she really wanted to mate with for all time. He watched her roll and wiggle on the ground, exposing her belly, so he tentatively stepped forward and smelled her scent.

Blake heard the echo of her laughter in his head as she writhed on the ground, looking at his wolf’s large head, with its wide forehead. His jaw was long and strong, the small triangular ears sticking out of the black and gray fur. His muscles were solid and bulged along his chest and front legs when he walked around her. He was a strong virile wolf in his prime.

Blake’s mouth was open in a slight pant as he circled around her, waiting for her cue. Amber twisted and jumped to her feet, slowly sauntering towards him, hanging her head in submission. Her nose pushed up against his, their cheeks rubbing, Blake licked Ambers face.

He mouthed her muzzle and she mouthed back, like they were kissing. Rubbing her hips against his side, she turned her rear towards him. Looking over her shoulder, the wolf turned and slowly sauntered away, her tail swishing back and forth. She made her way back to the safety of the she trees, with him following close behind.

Blake inhaled the strong scent of her excited pheromones. He glanced around, aware that her scent carried for miles around, would carry to the other wolves that were looking for mates. He had to stay on the alert and fend off anyone invading his territory. He would defend his rights to his mate.
