“You know Will that would be wonderful. It is a really detailed question though. Are you sure you have the time to spare?”

“Yeah, that’s no problem. What are friends for?” Will beamed.

“Will, you are wonderful. I really do not deserve a brother like you. Come on Charlie. Let’s leave them to their boring business talks.” Megan kissed me on the cheek then Will. “See you later.”

“See you guys later.” Charlie had finally come out of his deep thoughts to follow Megan into the apartment.

“How easy was that to get alone time?” Will laughed.

“Too easy,” I replied jumping into the front seat next to him.

“If we weren’t right outside my sister’s penthouse I would kiss you right now,” Will whispered to me. “You are so beautiful Shannon.”

“You better get to your place fast,” I whispered back staring deep into his ocean eyes as my heart skipped frantically.

Will’s apartment in South Kensington wasn’t too far from Megan’s penthouse, but was still far enough away for Will and me to be alone. He had the typical bachelor pad. Minimal black furniture, a large plasma television complete with game consoles. A sleek white kitchen with wonderful views of London. Only the best of everything for the Fields.

Before I had even got both feet through his front door, Will pushed me passionately against the wall, closing the door with one hand while the other hand ran up the left side of my body. His lips traced my bottom lip. I ran my hands through his light brown hair. I began to undo the buttons on his shirt. Running my hands over his bare strong chest, feeling him grip me tighter in pleasure. His hands began to glide to my clothes. My body tingled as I felt his soft skin against mine.

“So we are not going to do any studying then,” I teased as he picked me up in his arms.

“I can think of far better things for us to spend our time doing.”

“As long as it involves your large king bed I am up for that.” Will’s lips were on mine as he carried me into his bedroom.

“What are you thinking?” Will asked later that afternoon while we were wrapped up in each other’s arms still in his bed.

“Just how quickly things have changed,” I laughed.

“Am I going too fast for you? I can slow down, I…”

“Will, don’t worry this is fine. Well, it’s better than fine,” I interrupted kissing his neck.

“I just don’t want you to feel like I am rushing you. I really had no intention of well… last night at my parents I really was only going to wish you a good night.”

“I know that Will, but if you remember I was rather willing,” I teased pulling myself closer to him. “Being close to you this way, it feels right, comfortable. I wasn’t expecting that so soon.”

“That is good to hear. Maybe you
will
fall in love with me.”

“I am certainly going to try.”

It stunned me how true my words were. I wanted to love him. The problem was, with my past, could I?

The weeks flew by in a blur of happiness. It had been over six weeks, and our relationship was still a secret. I knew I would have to tell Megan soon, or she would be offended.

I cared for Will that was evident, but did I love him yet? I really wasn’t sure. Physically I was completely addicted. I now knew why Megan spent all day locked in her room with Charlie. The problem was the difference between love and lust. I knew one was overruling the other.

“You are very quiet today?” Megan asked me.

“I’m just thinking about my exam paper next week,” I lied.

“You will be fine. I mean with all the extra help Will has been giving you. I have hardly seen you in the last six weeks.”

“You know how I get in test situations.”

“You mean how you used to Shannon. You are not
that
person anymore.”

“Aren’t I?” I could still feel her deep inside me, screaming to be released.

“No, you are not,” Megan replied with certainty.

“Maybe you are right.”

“Oh, some post came for you. I forgot to say. I left it on the table.”

Megan suddenly got up throwing me a handwritten envelope. I didn’t think much of it until I opened it. Then my body began to tremble. What the hell was going on?

Shannon,

I am not who you think I am.

Do not trust him. He can NEVER love you like me. I am so close you can almost touch me. See me please. I cannot admit my feelings until I know you feel the same. Do not hate me for breaking your happiness. I believe we belong together. When you realise who I am you will understand.

I am yours forever.

“What is it, Shan?” Megan asked with a worried face. I was frozen to the spot.

How could this be, Mr Anonymous was Will? He had confessed six weeks ago. What did this letter mean? Will had lied to me? I felt sick to the pit of my stomach.

“Shannon, what is wrong?” Megan asked again.

“It’s a letter…”

“Is it from him, Mr Anonymous? Let me see,” Megan interrupted taking the letter from my stunned fingers. “What does this mean? Do you know who he is? Shannon, have you been keeping secrets from me?”

“I… I really have no idea what is going on. Will said it was…”

“Oh my God, it’s Will… holy cow! You have been seeing my brother haven’t you? All this time you weren’t studying.” Megan was leaping around almost screaming. It was very hard to concentrate. “Have you slept with… actually, I don’t want to know never mind. You and Will that is great, no… it’s brilliant.” I knew Megan would be pleased, but I hadn’t planned on her finding out this way.

“Yes, I am seeing your brother,” Megan was about to butt in probably to yell at me, but I carried on, “but this letter states he is not the one writing them. Which I am worried about. Seeing as he admitted to me he was the one who wrote them over six weeks ago.” I stared blankly at my letter.

“Oh my God, you have two people in love with you. Shannon, I am really impressed… who is the other guy?” Megan asked suddenly worried.

“I have no idea, Megan. Your brother and I are just getting to know each other, it’s not serious yet.”

“Not for you, but I am sure Will has other feelings.” Megan grinned. She had known Will was in love with me from the start. It was Will himself stopping Megan from telling me.

“I know that too, but he is happy to take things slow.”

“I still can’t believe it. You and
my
brother,” Megan sighed. “It’s the best news I have had in ages. Wait till Charlie finds out.”

“No, please don’t tell Charlie. We are still finding our feet. I am not ready for us to go public yet. I wouldn’t have told you if it weren’t for the letter.”

“You wouldn’t have told me?” Megan asked offended.

“Will and I wanted to tell you together.”

Megan stopped her pout, touched by my words. “Okay I guess I can forgive the pair of you, but this other guy who is he?”

“I really have no idea, but I think I need to speak to your brother.”

“Can I come?”

“I don’t think that is a good idea.” I knew Will had wanted to see Megan’s face first hand when we eventually told her.

“You are no fun.” Megan pulled a sad face but knew I wouldn’t give in.

“You do realise this other guy does not stand a chance against Will. He loves you too much. Will is never going to give you up now he knows you feel the same way.” Megan suddenly became serious as if she believed everything she was saying.

“Megan, I am not sure how I feel about your brother yet. I like him. I mean I
really like him
, but it is difficult for me to let someone in so close. Sometimes it scares me.”

“Will can wait. He knows you as well as me.” Megan beamed. “You know you really have to get over your abandonment issues at some point, Shannon.” I just glared at her now was not the time to talk about
that
.

I made my way over to Field Organisation deciding to take the tube to try clear my head. Dusk was falling yet London showed no sign of slowing down. Corner cafes overflowed with coffee drinkers. People rushed by not even taking notice of the traffic lights. These people never seemed to slow down. I noticed I was the only person ambling, being pushed as I got in peoples way.

Had Will lied? I could not get my head around it. As I entered his secretary’s office I began to shudder just at the thought. This was exactly the reason why I hated becoming too close to someone. At some point they would always let me down.

Chapter 8

I took a deep breath before entering Will’s office. His face lit up as soon as he saw me.

“This is a lovely surprise,” Will said softly as he kissed my cheek. “Are you finding it hard to go a whole day without me now?”

“Will, I need to talk to you. I am not sure how to start.” I knew I was speaking too fast. My breathing was all erratic. Will could see I was nervous.

“Shannon, what’s wrong?” Will asked anxious.

“I received another handwritten letter today,” I blurted out.

“Oh,” Will looked away from me. “I was hoping you wouldn’t receive another one that…”

“You didn’t write them did you?” I could tell by his face, I already knew the answer.

“No, I didn’t.” I began to walk out the door, but his hand grabbed my arm. “Let me explain before you go please.”

“You have five minutes and this
better
be good.” I glared at him.

“I really didn’t think he would ever write anymore seeing as he never approached you. I really didn’t see the harm. I couldn’t disappoint the hope I saw in your eyes. I could tell you wanted it to be me. I only wanted to give you everything you have ever dreamed of. I wish I could have been that romantic, but it is just not me. I am so sorry I lied to you, Shannon. I promise I will never do anything like that again. Can you forgive me?” Will had his hand on my face looking deep into my eyes waiting for my answer.

“Will, I need to think, I… I have to go.” I pulled away from him.

“Can I come and see you later?” He asked distressed.

“I will call you,” I replied turning to exit his office.

“Shannon, I am truly sorry. You believe me don’t you?” I just half smiled back at him as I left his office. I had no answer for him yet.

I made my way to the elevator almost numb, when someone shouted my name.

“Shannon is that you?” A male voice called. Tim Scott stood in front of me. Still as handsome as ever. He was still pursuing Megan even though she was with Charlie.

“Not today Tim, please. I am not in the mood,” I replied gloomily. I really wasn’t up for twenty questions about Megan right now.
