As I open my eyes I see a shadow through the glass, I jump as its starring straight at me.

“What the fuck?” I shout. They walk away and I slowly open the shower door, and pop my head out and grab the towel that I left on the side. I wrap it around my waste and head out from the bathroom.

“Hello. Who’s there? No point in hiding I seen you. It’s pretty weird checking someone out in the shower.” I scoop around my bedroom to find who it is and I find no one. I quickly throw on my jeans and top and head down stairs into the lounge. You have got to be fucking kidding me, what is she doing here? She sits there with her arms sprawled out over my sofa and smirking as if I cannot touch her. She looks rough, she lost weight, her face is pale and drawn in.

“You have some nerve coming here, Sabrina.”

“Well is that how you great your wife, darling.”

“Where is Andrew? And how the hell did you get in here without being noticed?”

“You have an air strip in your bark garden that much space makes me look like an ant, so I came through the back.”

“Well, this is a stupid plan as I’m calling the police.” She laughs towards me.

“Go for it and you’ll never see your little princess again, we both now you wouldn’t call them on me. You’d be putting yourself in trouble now wouldn’t you?”

“I’m willing to go down for what I did, are you?”

“Why would I go down? My hands are not dirty. I didn’t kill Danni’s friend, Phillip did and Dillon went down for what he did last year, so how does that come back on me?” What a bitch, she’s right as well.

“If you can’t go down for anything, then why are you running?”

“Because of Danni, that bitch is smart. She witnessed everything and the only reason she hasn’t spilled it all out yet is because she’s protecting you.”

“So that’s why you’ve got her, to keep her quiet? You may as well just kill her. Why are you keeping her around?”

“She’s the key to your demise.”

“How is she?”

“We all know you’d die for her and us keeping her is already killing you inside. We could be doing anything to her and because you don’t have a clue whether she is dead or alive, it’s crippling you within. Sooner or later, you’ll go crazy and lose your mind and you’ll stop being smart and lose focus and that’s when it will hit you. 

“Well you’re mistaken there; we’ll see who gets the last laugh. Now get the hell out of my house.” She walks straight towards; she stands in front of me and goes to touch my face. Before she can, I grip her hand.

“Don’t touch me.”

“You know deep down you want me too, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss your touch.” She gets closer to my face; my breathing starts to get louder and her lips are moving closer and closer to mine.” “You can’t forget about all the good times we had together, admit it, you miss me.” My head is spinning with all the confusing of all these mixed feeling I’m receiving with everything that has happened. I close my eyes and try to block out the sound of her voice, as she saying over, and over again.

“You know you’ve been yearning for this, ever since it all happened.”

“No, I haven’t! I whisper, the images start popping through my head of what we once where,
stop it Jared, don’t let her pull you in like this

My mind jumps
from the image
of Sabrina and I to a picture of Danni, I cannot  say anything as I’m just smiling at Danni’s face and she comes closer and our lips collide and I feel someone’s lips our placed on mine, oh Danni.

“What the fuck.” Someone shouts, snapping me from my illusion and I open my eyes and see Sabrina locked to my lips and I push her away. I look up to notice Adam, Tyler and Andrew standing their watching us.

“You bitch!” I snap and she giggles and runs straight for the door. 

  
Chapter Eighteen

“Sir, what the hell was Sabrina doing here? Was Danni with her?” Andrew asks,

“What the hell were you doing making out with her?” Another one asks, I can’t make two sense out of anything.”

“I don’t know, what the hell as just happened, I’m sorry, I’m so confused.” I cup my face with the palm of my hands, everything seems to be a blare, I cannot concentrate, my head is killing and everything around me is an echo.

“Sir, are you ok?” 

“Yeah, just give me a moment.”  I can hear his footsteps back up and hear him speak to Adam.

“There’s something wrong with him, I think he’s about to crack.”

“What makes you think that?”

“Just look at him, he’s shaking, his lips are talking but no sound is coming out. I’ve not seen him like this before and I’ve seen him at his worst. I hear footsteps come closer to me.

“Jared, I don’t know what’s going on inside that head of yours but you need to snap out of this, we’ll find her. You just need to explain to us what she was doing here. Any clue on where they are? Don’t snap now, Danni would kill us both if you where to wonder of to wonderland.” I nod my head yes, trying to get it together. I seen Danni and then it was not Danni, she kissed me, what was all that about? It doesn’t matter, I need to push it to the back of my mind otherwise I’m useless like this.

“Erm ok, sorry. She was trying to fuck with my head. She basically tried to say that Danni was the death of me. It’s all such a blare now. I thought I was kissing Danni, It was as if I was been tranquillized. My head is battered.” I think it’s all finally sunk in with what’s happening here. I feel numb, lost and sick. A dark cloud has risen over me, the storm has started and I’m the centre of its wrath. I always thought I’d be head strong and fearless in a situation like this and now I feel lost, alone and scared? Not for me, but for her.”

“Dude, seriously come on! There’s no time for you to have a meltdown. We’ll sort it out together.” Adam nudges,

“Ok, sorry again! What shall we do now?” I ask and Adam gladly takes charge.

“Well first of all, this has to be said. Dude, that was your ex, she is butt ugly man. What did you see in that? My sister was definitely an upgrade.” I look up at him in distain; he is just a right dick. I notice Tyler nodding, agreeing but shock with his outburst. “What? What did I do? You can’t say you weren’t thinking it?”

“I forgot how blunt you were, there’s a time and place dude and right now, isn’t a good time.”

“Oh, right, yeah! Sorry dude, I’m still working on my people skills.”

“It’s ok; I’m getting use to your outburst now, sort of. I see that’s where Danni gets it from.” I quip and stand up and continuing saying, “Well, where shall we go from here? I can look at any of the information I’ve got, I was tracking them as well.”

“Maybe they are some clues in what you have?” Adam suggests. “Where do you keep your information?”

“In my office, it’s just through those doors, opposite the lounge.” We stroll towards the white doors and stumble in and I fall to the ground tripping on my own two feet and whack my head on the floor. All I hear is an echo of laughs filled in the air. My head is bashed up and I’m aching. When I open my eyes, the room is spinning. I feel a wet substance dripping down my forehead. I raise my fingers to touch where I banged my head and shit that hurt. I look at my fingers and there painted red with the blood, just great. I slam my hand to the ground, furious at myself for getting a head injury already and feel something soft on the floor. I take a glance and they are a few photographs on the floor. I pick some of them up and look at them. My body fills up with all type of emotions, rage, pain, guilt and my chest is constricting. It’s Danni, her eyes our shut, her mouth is covered by grey masking tape, her arms and legs are tied behind her back, poor Danni. My face has drawn pale with worry if she dead. Adam interrupts me.

“What’s that?” I hand him a picture, waiting for him to blow. His face has turned red and I stand up holding on to my desk table to hold myself up. I look down again and notice a little white piece of paper with a note saying ‘NICE TRY’ and I glance behind my desk and notice the beeping and there it is. Fuck, it’s a bomb counting down from twenty seconds, I scream. “Guys, get the fuck out now, there is a fucking bomb.”

“Fuck!” They all shout and we make a run for the front door, we were lucky to be so close to the front door. As we run from the house and make a jump for the ground. I hear the explosion. I look back and the fire is huge, the smoke is booming up and everything is flying everywhere. My home has gone. Why would they do this? I sit and watch it burn. Everything was in there and now it’s all gone. I run my hands through my hair not knowing what else to do. 

“This shit is getting out of hand, man.” Adam snaps, I just huff, as I know he’s right. He comes behind me and places his hand onto my shoulder. “Listen, we cannot stay here, can you hear the sirens? The police, the media will all be surrounding this place in minutes. Everyone knows this is your house. We need to move are asses.”

“We’re going to have to speak to them; the police are going to want answers.”

“And what are you going to tell them? Your ex did this?”

“That’s exactly what I’m going to say.”

“Dude, you can’t! Danni lied to them for you and now you’re going to fuck it all up, you go down she goes down. I will not stand by and let that happen.”

“What choice do I have? If I tell them they can have a better chance of finding her and I’ll just say she didn’t know who she was, I won’t put her in trouble with the police. Trust me? I would die before I’d let Danni take any fall for me and she’s in enough trouble already. I just won’t tell them the whole story, I’ll just tell them enough. Look, they’re here, keep your cool.” We stand up and see all the cars coming, the police, the fire engines and the reporter vans. “Here we go guys, just follow what I say.” My body is burning from the heat of the fire, my face feels dirty with the fall to the ground, this is exhausting.

The fire-fighters have jumped out of there vans and rushing straight over to put the fire out and we are surrounded by the police and reporters. One police officer is putting a crime scene tape all around, to stop people getting through and that’s including the reporters. You can hear them saying.

“Mr. Hall, what happened here? Is this connected to Miss Shaw’s disappearance?” I ignore them and I turn to my left to see detective Sam and Paige come our way. Oh shit, they were the ones who were at the hospital after Danni and I was shot.  They stand straight in front of me, and the others.

“Mr. Hall, it’s good to see you again. Do you fancy telling us what happened here?” I roll my eyes to the others and nod to them, hoping they understand to follow my lead. I take a quick look around at all the reporters, with their microphones and all their equipment ready to hear this. Once I say all of this, it’s going to be mayhem, but I need them to know it was Sabrina, so I can get her face out in the world and so she can see that they’re coming after her. I say loud and clear

“It was my ex wife Sabrina.” You can hear everyone’s shock, I don’t let up, I continue to tell them. “Yes, she is my ex wife. When I returned home earlier, she was inside my house. I told her to leave, she then informed me that she had hold of Danni and she was working with Phillip. As you know, he was the one who killed Carl Freed. I went to call the police and she ran off. That’s when these guy’s turned up.” Detective Sam interrupts me.

“What were they turning up for?”

“We were going to see if we can find Danni, because none of us want to wait around for you lot because you’re getting nowhere fast!“

“That’s not down to you though is it? Is that everything?”

“No! It’s not! Sabrina was also the one who shot Danni and I.”

“Oh my gosh.” I can hear everyone whisper with all of this information and then turning to their cameras to themselves to let the whole world know.”

“So why did you and Miss Shaw lie back in the hospital? You both declared that you had no idea who shot you.”

“Danni didn’t lie; she didn’t know who she was.”

“But she was your fiancée, why would you keep information like that from her, especially when earlier on in the night, you proposed to her?”

“That is my personal life, my relationships and what I choose to disclose in them is my business and not yours. “

“It is if it’s to do with the case.”

“Me having an ex wife has nothing to do with the case, I just told you who it was. Yes, it happens to be my ex wife who shot us.”

“The question is then, why did you lie about it?”

“I never lied, I just withheld information.”

“Same thing Mr. Hall.” I shake my head at his smug actions.

“I was ashamed, plus no one knew about her and she disappeared. That’s all.” He turns to Adam.

“You’re Danni’s brother right? Did you know about any of this? And why are you searching for her, when you and your sister filed a missing persons report?” I glare at Adam to make sure he does not screw up.

“I didn’t know he had a wife, this is just as shocking to me as it is for you, and I am looking for my sister because you guys are shit at your job.” He smirks at Adam,

“You’ve got quite a rap Mr. Shaw; I’d watch what you say. You don’t want to end up back inside do you?”

“You can’t threaten me with that, I’ve done nothing wrong, I said the truth, and what can you do about that?” He turns to Tyler,

“Mr. Hooper, I’ve not seen you around here in years, your rap is just as bad as your friend here, what are you doing here?”

“I was visiting my old friend, once I heard about Carl and then Danni disappearing, I came straight up to visit and see if they’re all ok and if they need any help. They’re like family and family need each other in these difficult times.” Detective Sam, takes one more look at all of us, I can tell he’s wary about everything we’ve just said.

“Why do I get the feeling you’re all withholding information from me?”

“We’re not detective; we’ve told you everything we know. Will that be it?” I ask,

“For now, yes. I’ll be in touch and don’t be looking for Miss Shaw, leave it to the professionals.” He nods and walks of, but I can hear him telling his partner. “Something’s not right.”

“You did well.” Adam says, “You told them near enough everything.”

“I told you, I won’t put Danni in it. Now this should be all on the news now.  Sabrina, and whomever she is working with, should be shitting themselves, which means they are more dangerous now than ever, they will want to hit back. Good news is, they won’t harm Danni any time soon, that’s if she’s alive, they’ll be thinking out the box to attack me. We’ve got some time, let’s get out of here and go somewhere quite to figure out what our next move is.”

“How are we going to get out of here, it’s full of reporters and police.” Tyler asks,

“Andrew will help us past the reporters, just don’t look at them or say anything. The police are done with us for now, so we should be alright to leave.”

“We can’t go to Danni place, we’ll have to head to mine, come on.” As Adam offers his place, Andrew stands next to us all, trying to push us past the paparazzi. They’re all shouting.

“Mr. Hall, who is your wife? Why has she kidnapped Danni? And why did she shoot you both? What is the secret behind all this? You can’t keep it a secret for long.” I keep my head down and ignore them all and I’m left feeling scared for Danni’s life, now more than ever, no more playing nice, they’ve took everything from me and now it’s my turn to find them and take everything they hold dear.

Back at Adams house, were all sat around the lounge and Adam brings us all a glass of whisky in.

“Whisky, this time?”

“Dude, its like three and after what has just gone down, we all fucking deserve it.”

“True! We all need to think about our next step.” I bring the glass to my mouth and take a sip of this fresh cold drink until its all gone. Once it hits my mouth, my taste buds awaken from the bitter taste, I swallow and the burning sensation feels amazing and makes me want more. “Another one please, Adam” I ask,

“I thought you’d say that, so I brought the whole bottle in. Until we’ve found out what our next move is, we should drink.”

“Amen to that.” We all say and hold our glasses up and take another swig.

“So I’m guessing all we can do now is wait for them to put Tyler’s phone back on?” Adam asks,

“I guess so, but if Sabrina is here, Danni can’t be far.” Tyler guesses.

“Nah, Danni won’t be here, Sabrina is not that stupid. She must have known we were following her; she wanted us at my house to make a statement. They are playing games with us. They can’t be found. We’ve hit another dead end.” I huff in defeat.

“Oh, I don’t think so; we’re not giving up on my sister. I’ll go find her myself if you’re out and if you’re out, then you’re just the horrible pathetic jerk, I’ve always known you are.” Adam snaps.

“Adam!” Tyler snaps,

“No, he’s right! If I give up now, I am a dickhead and Danni is counting on us all.” Before anyone else can say anything, there is a huge banging coming from the front door.
