All that nonsense about wanting
to take me to Nantucket so that I could reflect, what if he fed that line to
all the woman he had wanted to bed? What if the whole family is nothing but a
bunch of liars, Muriel being the exception of course, what with having married
into
it.
What if the jokes on you Dominique? What if
he played you all along, not giving a damn about what happened to you or your
family? I fucked up,
she told herself,
and I fucked up because I fell
for Adam. I'm not going to make that mistake again.

    Adam needed
to cool down before he went back into the house. His family had gathered in the
kitchen and was discussing Dominique's hasty retreat. “What happened?” They all
asked when Adam came rushing back into the house. “Is everything alright son?”
His father asked. The same question was looming in Jonathan's mind that had
momentarily loomed in Adam's, had she found out? Jonathan's heart began to
race.

When Adam reached his brother, he
punched him in the face. Several family members broke the two apart as Adam
tried to hit him again.

“What the fuck did you say to her?”
Adam shouted as he fought against the many hands restraining him.

“Oh I get it, you’re gonna defend
that bitch over me? Your own flesh and blood?”  Brandon was relentless; he
just couldn’t see what his own selfishness was doing to Adam.

Jonathan stepped between his two sons and
tightly held each by the arm.

“You two are gonna come with me now
and we are gonna talk this out right now, this feud that you two are having is
gonna end tonight I promise you that!”

Jonathan led his two sons’ into his
private office and closed the door.

“Now which one of you is gonna tell
me why that woman felt the need to get into a taxi on thanksgiving night and go
back home? Brandon you want to start?”

Brandon told his father exactly
what he told Dominique, word for word. Several times Jonathan had to restrain
Adam from trying to hit his brother.

“I swear on my life Brandon, you
ever go near her or so much as breathe around her again, I’ll kill you.” Adam
had meant every word; he stormed past his brother and out the door.

Adam was furious, he couldn’t see
straight, his head was pounding and he couldn’t catch his breath. He knew that
his brother was a careless, selfish human being who thinks of no one but
himself.  Even if Adam had told his brother that he was well aware of the
fact that he was responsible for the deaths of Stephen and Teddy Greenway, he
knew that wouldn’t stop him from harming Dominique even if Brandon found out
who she really was.
All these lies and deceptions
, thought Adam are what
got us here in the first place. Adam's mind was reeling, he had to get in touch
with Dominique, but his several calls to her went unanswered. “I’ve got to go
to her now,” he whispered as he grabbed his car keys.

Dominique paid the taxi driver and
slowly walked up the stairs to her brownstone; she was anxious to get home
during the taxi ride but now being there and seeing it, gave her second
thoughts. “There's nowhere else to go now,” she whispered as she unlocked the
door. To her surprise, things weren’t as bad as she thought they would be, yes
it was messy but the blood stains were gone and all that remained was a few
pieces of broken glass, and some finger print dust. It was the same situation
in the bedroom. “Looks like I know what I’ll be doing for the rest of the
night.” Dominique was glad to have the distraction.

Cleaning up would be just the thing
she needed to relieve her frustrations. She poured herself a glass of wine, put
her hair up, and changed into a pair of yoga pants and a tank. As she went
about the house wiping down and scrubbing, she let her mind wander to where she
was only a couple hours ago. The more she thought about it, the harder she
scrubbed.

“Brandon thinks he's won,”
she said through gritted teeth. “That son of a bitch hasn't won anything.”
Dominique thought that because of what she did to Nick, Brandon was trying to
get under her skin and keep her away from Adam.

But judging from the several phone calls that Adam had been making to
her cell during the last few hours that was not going to happen. Adam wanted
her and there was nothing Brandon could do to stop him. “You haven’t won a
goddamn thing Brandon Caruso, not a goddamn thing.”

Chapter Eighteen

When Adam arrived at the brownstone
he was nervous, he wasn’t sure if she'd even let him in let alone talk to him.
But there's only one way to find out he told himself. While Dominique was
finishing her third glass of wine, the doorbell rang. “Well I guess he couldn’t
stay away after all,” she slurred as she opened the door.

“What do you want Adam?” She
snapped.

A quick glance around the apartment
and Adam could tell she'd been cleaning and from the empty bottle, drinking as
well.

“Dominique, I came here to
apologize to you.”

“Oh yeah? For what Adam?”

“For what my brother said to you
Dominique and for the record I told him that he is to never to so much as come
near you ever again. You were right about him Dominique and I guess I didn’t
want to see it because he is my brother but I know the things he's capable of
and I should have said something more when he walked in on us this morning and
I’m sorry, I really am.”

Anger slowly began to fill
Dominique, she wasn’t sure if it was the wine or the fact that Adam had showed
up unexpectedly or because she was falling in love with the brother of the man
who killed her husband and son. When she stepped forward and slapped him hard
on the face, she was pretty sure it was the latter.

Adam had not been prepared for that
and neither was Dominique but she did it anyway and when she reached to do it
again, he grabbed both her hands.

“Let go of me Adam.” Dominique
struggled against him. She was so angry and so upset that he would have even
thought for a moment that his
lying
no good brother
had any good in him.

“Dominique what has gotten into you?” even as
he held her at bay, his desire rose for her.

Dominique wanted to hit him again,
she wanted him to feel the same sting that she felt when Brandon told her that
she was just another piece of ass to Adam and that Adam had woman all over
town.

But he held her hands in his firm
grip and while he did so he pulled her close, so close that his lips brushed
hers as he asked her again what had gotten into her. Adam didn’t wait for a
response, his tongue darted into her open mouth and even as Dominique fought
against it she became incredibly aroused.

Adam could hold back no more,
Dominique saw the look of pure masculinity in his eyes as they fell onto the
couch. “You are mine Dominique,” Adam growled, and as clothes were pulled off
and naughty obscenities were moaned by both, Adam hungrily made love to her. It
was the first time they had done something so erotic. Dominique liked the
spontaneity of it all and both she and Adam had enjoyed the dirty talk.

By the time they had both reached
their climax, the two were in a heap of panting chests and sweat. “Does this
mean I’m forgiven Dominique?” Adam joked.

“Oh I wouldn’t go that far buddy,”
she said running her hands along his damp chest.

“Dominique you are amazing,” he
said cupping her face in his hand and kissing her.

Brandon Caruso was fuming, he
couldn’t believe his brother took off in the middle of the night to go and see
Dominique. He was sure Adam would see the error of his ways and realize that
Dominique being in his life was a bad thing and that he should have not gone
after her.
Maybe I should tell Adam the truth,
he thought to
himself.

Brandon was sure that if Adam knew
what he did to Dominique's family, he would break things off with her for fear
of ruining his own family. Brandon thought again,
no, Adam is so caught up
with her; there would be no reasoning with him. I'm just going to have to take
care of her myself.

It's been two years since I had
that goddamn accident with her kid and husband, she should have moved on, the
selfish bitch. Well if you don't wanna move on your own, I’ll be more than
happy to do it for you bitch. But I’ll need some help.
He thought as he
dialed DiNunzio's personal number.

With the help of the crime boss
DiNunzio, Brandon was introduced to local thug Joey Costa.  Joey was used
for petty shake ups and the occasional hit. Although the thug was already on
DiNunzio's payroll, DiNunzio told Brandon that he was going to have to pay out
of his own pocket for whatever it is he needed Joey to do. Once he set up a
meeting with Joey, Brandon felt relieved. He was finally going to be able to
get rid of Dominique permanently. “Oh Adam would be sad,” he smirked to
himself. But he'd be right there for his little brother to make sure he got
over her real fast.

“Dominique, that was well worth the wait.”
Adam had just come down from the erotic high that Dominique had given him. It
was Friday morning and after they had made love last night, Adam slept over,
and this morning, Dominique was finally able to finish what she had started
days ago. He knew she was going to bring him to complete ecstasy the moment she
ran her tongue slowly up and down his shaft, and he was right; Dominique licked
the sides of her mouth as she lazily crawled up from being between his legs.

“God woman, is there anything you’re not good
at?” He joked as he pulled her close.

“Apparently I’m no good at holding
a grudge, because I should still be mad at you Adam Caruso.”

She playfully punched him. Adam sat
up in bed and pulled Dominique onto his lap.

“Dominique, listen to me, I want
you to know that I don’t intend to let my brother near you ever again. I don’t
know what his problem is and to be honest I don’t care. All I care about right
now is that you know that what my brother told you last night was a lie.
Dominique I don’t think of you as a piece of ass, I don’t have woman all over
town and I will never hurt you. So you've gotta trust me Dominique, trust me
when I say that you’re the only woman that I want in my life.”

Dominique looked into his eyes, she
could see the flecks of hazel and they were beautiful. Dominique was now sure
that she wanted Adam in her life. Maybe it’s time to put all this behind me and
move on she sighed, and I will, as soon as I give Brandon Caruso exactly what
he's got coming to him.

Brandon sat anxiously in Mickey's
bar waiting for Joey Costa to show up for their meeting.

“You Brandon?” Joey Costa was tall,
big and burly. He was the type of guy who you knew that if you saw him walking
towards you things weren’t going to end well for you. Brandon noticed his arms
before seeing anything else. He had the physique of a bouncer and it was easy
for Brandon to see why Joey was DiNunzio's new favorite. It used to be Nick,
but he was dead, Dominique saw to that.

“Yeah, man lets go talk.”

Brandon and Joey went through a
side door of the bar that led to a damp, dank basement. It was the room that
was usually used for quick sit downs and the occasional beatings.

“Listen buddy, before we get
started I’m gonna need 2500 up front. I usually like to follow the intended
mark, get to know their habits. And in addition to that, I charge 500.00 an
hour, if I gotta stake someone out its still five an hour. Now if I have to
leave the state, all expenses including hotels and just so you know, I don’t
stay at those cheap ass hotels, are to be paid by you.

So if you’re in agreement with that, then tell me what you need done.”

Brandon shook his head, he wondered
how many people he'd done this for; he deduced that it was many.

“I need someone gone man, I need
them gone and I need you to make it look like an accident.”

“No problem, what did you have in
mind?”

As Brandon and Joey talked of ideas, an outsider would have thought that
they were discussing a movie or had just finished reading a book. At first
Brandon had suggested Joey lie in wait at her apartment but then remembering
what happened to Nick, thought better of it.

“I can do a brutal rape and
murder?”

“Nah, that'll tear my brother up.”

“Whoa now wait a minute, exactly
what is your relationship to this woman buddy?”

Joey had done his share of hits but very rarely would he hurt woman and
never children.

“No relationship man she's just my
brothers girlfriend that’s all.”

“And you’re sure you want to do
this man? Because once I start, there ain't no going back, if at first you
don’t succeed try, try again is my motto you got that? Even if you change your
mind, I still go after my mark, he said moving closer, and I still get paid
every penny you got that?”

“Yes I got it; look man money's no
object I got plenty of it.”

“Don't you mean your old man does?”
Joey said sarcastically.

Hearing this angered Brandon.

“Listen I got the money now take care of that bitch and do it soon.”

Once Brandon had given him all the
information he would need in order to locate Dominique, her work hours, what
kind of vehicle she drove and anything else he needed, the two men parted ways,
but not before Brandon gave Joey 2500 good faith money.

“That's my price, take it or leave
it. And just so you know, once you pay me, I’ll be starting my surveillance
tonight.”

“I got no problem with that Buddy,
the sooner the better.”

Brandon knew that 2500 was a small
price to pay to get rid of Dominique.

Adam had spent the long weekend
with Dominique, it was black Friday and they found themselves mixed in with the
large crowds of holiday shoppers at Macy’s and all of the other stores on
Washington St. It wasn’t until later when they were seated in a restaurant full
of weary holiday shoppers that they were able to talk. As they sat and drank
their beers and munched on appetizers, Dominique was full of holiday spirit.
