She nods and I dial Red’s number to inform
him of the news.

“Red,
it’s
Rodney.

I’ll come see you at the club
tomorrow to work out the details,” I tell him.

“So, you’ll accept?” he asks.

“Yeah, sure, why not?” I tell him.

“Alright, see you at the club tomorrow,
boss,” he tells me in response.

I disconnect the call with a smile on my
face as I continue rubbing Trish’s feet.

The night turns into daylight as it pushes
through the blinds in our bedroom.

I
shower, dress myself and eat breakfast in a hurry.

“I’ll be back soon, my love,” I tell Trish
with a kiss on her lips and another for her belly.

“Okay, honey, see you soon,” she tells me
as I walk out of the door.

I get on my motorcycle and head out to
Hayleysville
where the
Deathdealers
are tucked away.

I walk inside and Red
greets me.

“Hey, Rod, glad you could make it,” he
tells me.

I look around in disbelief, as I can’t believe
my father is nowhere to be found.

The
remaining members are all in attendance and are all looking to me for guidance.

They perform a brief ceremony where they
present me with a patch for the front of my jacket that says “President”.

Hours pass and I sit there enjoying my new
role as leader of a club.

My phone rings and I look down at it to
see Ronan Fitzgerald’s name flashing on the screen.

I chuckle as I answer it.

“Hey kid, are you messing around out there
or what?” he asks.

“Cut me some slack, old man, I’ve never
been president of a club before.

I have
to tell you, it’s quite intriguing.”

“You have got to be kidding me,” he says
sarcastically.

“Well, I can see the draw,” I tell him
flatly.

When I know he’s good and riled up, I
break the news to him softly.

“We’ll be leaving in five minutes,” I tell
him.

“I had you going for a minute
there.”

“Bye Rodney,” he says avoiding the
admission of being had.

I instruct the crew to get ready to roll
and that our first order of business is a partnership with the Green Dragons.

“Isn’t that the club your old man wanted
to take over?” One junior member asks.

“Yeah, he wanted a takeover and now one’s
going to happen – just not the way he planned it all out.”

The members of the
Deathdealers
all back me up as we ride out of
Haleysville
and make
our way to Hinton Township.

Before we
leave, I swear my allegiance to Ronan Fitzgerald and the colors of the Green
Dragons and the members do the same.

We
ride out to see if they’ll take us under their wing.

When we get there, Ronan declines my
request to be absorbed into the Green Dragons.

He jokes, “You said you enjoyed the
leadership role, so you can have it.”

“Come on old man, this was your idea,” I
nitpick.

“Yeah, but you wanted to play president,”
he snipes.

“Take us under your wing, you know you
want to,” I nag him.

“If you don’t, I’ll
unleash your pregnant daughter on you.”

“No one wants that,” he tells me
quietly.

Ronan announces that each member of the
remaining
Deathdealers
will undergo a background
check and criminal investigation by Trish before being accepted into the
club.

He tells us, “Her word is gold, so
whatever she says, goes.”

I feel proud in knowing that she would
love to hear those words come from her father’s mouth.

They all nod in agreement and he walks down
the line shaking each of our hands.

“Welcome to the Green Dragons.

I’m Ronan Fitzgerald, your new
president.

Rodney, you are relieved.”

“I stand relieved,” I reply.

A month later, word gets out to my father
of the union between the Dragons and the
Deathdealers
.

He doesn’t sound happy when he leaves
messages on my voicemail, but I refuse to speak to him directly or through his
lawyer, no matter how many times they call.
