Chapter 5

Well, it’s another weekend
and my week has been crazy in-between working at the hospital and
doing split-shifts at Chica's. I’m buggered, but Lola is
excited for Blake’s party tonight, so we’re all going to
head over there and have some drinks.

I’m quite nervous to see
Josh again. He has been flirting all week via text messages and he is
a very interesting guy, although, I want to throttle him for having
the nerve to ignore me, when he was the one who invited me out in the
first place. Though, so is Dylan. We have been meeting for lunch
during my shifts at the hospital when we get time. He is so lovely to
talk to, but he hasn’t pushed me for anything and our
conversations have been very friendly with mild flirting. The girls
at the hospital are gossiping about us, but I don’t care.
What’s it to them anyway? Oh, that’s right, nothing!

Lola comes barging into my room
without knocking, as usual. "Hey, you work out what you’re
going to wear tonight?" she asks me, already dolled up to the
max with a mini sequence skirt, hair braided to the side, and a
see-through shirt with a black bra. Of course, she looks stunning and
can pull it off easily.

"Was just going to throw on
my black dress with some heels. I’ll go get ready now. When are
we leaving?"

"In about twenty minutes,
Brit will be here to pick us up."

I walk into the bathroom and start
straightening my hair and adding minimum makeup with some eyeliner
and a bit of lip-gloss. I put on my heels and dress, look myself
over, and I’m ready. I walk into the kitchen and find the girls
are already drinking a glass of champagne and talking about Blake’s
party and who they think will be there.

"Hey, Brit, missed you this
week. How you doing?" She walks over and gives me a hug and
kiss, our little ritual when we see each other.

"Fine, Sash, missed you, too.
How’s study going?" I fill her in on my studies and Dylan
the gorgeous new doctor. Both Brit and Lola are sitting there
listening and nodding their heads. Then Lola changes the subject and
asks about Josh. I let them both know we have been speaking as well,
but didn’t bring up the drags. I’m not getting into that
tonight. I just want to go out and enjoy myself without any drama.

Lola tells me she is glad I met,
and have been talking to, someone else. Blake has been telling her
about Josh, and she doesn’t think I should go there because he
is a total man-whore. I stare at her in disbelief and she goes on
telling me about how he owns his own tattoo shop and is very
successful in the industry. Girls are always throwing themselves at
him. Supposedly, he has a new girl every week, and Blake hasn’t
seen him with a steady girl since high school.

"Well, we are just talking,
Lola, not fucking. So don’t worry about it," I tell her.

“I know. I just don’t
want to see you get hurt.”

"What are you talking about?
You know I can handle myself. Fuck, I usually throw your one-night
stands out the door."

"Okay! All right, don’t
say I didn’t warn you. Now, let’s hit this party and
PARTY!"

Brit and I exchange a look like
‘Oh, my God. She’s going to be in big trouble tonight.’
Brit, Lola, and I have known each other since high school. Both girls
were lusting after the same guy at the time, so at first, they didn’t
get along.

Once they realised he was playing
both of them, they teamed up and sought revenge. It started with a
confrontation on the football field. Within minutes, he was
apologising and declaring his love for both of them. It ended with
him naked and stranded with no clothes and no car.
The rest is history.
Brit hasn’t left our side since and we were officially known as
the bitches of high school. No one picked fights with us or dared to
call us names. Together, we’re a force to be reckoned with.

*****

"Blake-a-sauraus!" Lola
yells once we enter Blake’s apartment. I swear she can
embarrass the shit out of me sometimes. It’s jam-packed full of
girls and guys. It’s hard to just walk through the front door.
I knew it was going to be packed as Blake owns a small nightclub in
town and he is known as a ladies’ man.

I am pretty sure he is in love
with Lola, and Lola in love with him; though neither of them will
admit to it. They’re both as bad as one another. They both like
hooking up all the time with random people, but never commit to a
relationship because they both think they are not ready for that sort
of commitment. It’s not like they have to get married. I don’t
understand my sister sometimes.

"Hey, Lo, back here in the
kitchen," we hear Blake yell out to Lola. We make our way to the
kitchen and find girls with hardly any clothes on flirting with all
the boys in sight. Adam is one of Blake’s best friends. He and
Brit have been seeing each other for three months now and they are
crazy about one another. Brit walks over to Adam and the girls that
are hanging off him and Blake.

"Move, bitch," she says
to one brunette

The girl looks up at her and says,
"Who the fuck are you?"

Oh no, there is going to be a
catfight soon if this girl doesn’t let go of Adam.

"I’m his girlfriend,
and who might you be?” She looks back and forth. Adam bends
down, gives her a searing kiss on the lips and the brunette huffs and
walks away. Thank God! I was thinking there was gonna be a catfight
of slapping and pulling of hair.

"Blakey baby, get a girl a
drink, would ya?" Lola yells to Blake.

He bends down, kisses her on the
mouth and says, "Sure, sweet cheeks," and pinches her ass.
She swats his hand away and walks back over to me. Man, they are cute
and they can’t see what’s right in front of them, or they
do and just won’t admit to it. Stubborn asses! We have been
standing around in the crowded kitchen chatting for half an hour when
a set of arms wrap around me.

"Hey, beautiful," Josh
whispers in my ear and I melt. God, his voice is sexy. I snap out of
my haze, turn around, and tell him off, because he must be delirious.
Who does he think he is?

“Did the fumes get to your
head? Or do you not remember what you did to me last weekend? Or are
you just too cocky to care?” I glare at him with my hands on my
hips.

I fight with my body to make
myself walk away from this fine specimen. If I don’t march away
now, he will think he can walk all over me like all those other
tramps. And I am not putting myself in that category. Internal debate
over, I’m going to the bathroom. I finally get my wits together
and I walk off. I don’t want to hear his excuses tonight.

I head to Blake’s room to
use his bathroom, as it won’t be as packed. I’m walking
through the lounge room on my way back from the bathroom and I see
Lola and some random grinding on the dance floor. I try looking
around for Blake and I find him standing in the doorway watching. He
looks like he is about to walk out there and pummel the guy’s
face in.

"Blake, how about we go and
get me a drink?" I tell him. He keeps on staring, but then grabs
my hand and we walk back to the kitchen. Josh is still there with a
little blonde. Her tits are hanging out her shirt, trying to rub up
against him. I simply smile and walk with Blake to the bar area. I
look back at Josh and he is smirking at me. God, why do I attract the
bad boys? Arghh!

Brit and I head back on the dance
floor and I’ve been stealing glances at Josh. He has different
women up on him all night. He hasn’t done anything with them
apart from touches on the hips and hugs. He makes me so angry and I
know that’s what he is aiming for because every time I look up,
his eyes instantly lock with mine and I have to pull myself away. I’m
having a great time dancing when I turn around to search for Lola and
someone I was never expecting to see walks through the door. He looks
around, spots the boys in the kitchen, and starts talking and
drinking with them. I’m standing shocked out of my brain. I
don’t even notice Brit nudging me.

"Sasha," she yells in my
ear. I swing around and tell her who just walked in the door. She
tries to look in the kitchen to get a better look. I’m so
nervous at seeing him because Josh is here as well, and the last
thing I want to do is cause a scene.

"Don’t, I just want to
go home," I tell her urgently. The last thing I want to deal
with are two guys I’m attracted to in the same room.

"Why? You’re not dating
either of them. Have some fun."

"Whatever."

"Lighten up, hunny. Oh, my
God, is that him? He is gorgeous and he is coming this way."

I turn around and he’s
standing staring at me. We slowly walk to each other, our eyes
locked. Oh, wow, he looks good dressed in jeans that hang on his hips
and a casual shirt that looks like it cost two hundred dollars, but
he pulls it off.

"Hi, Sasha, didn’t
realise
you would be here."

"Hey, yeah, I know Blake."

"So, want to come get a
drink?"

"Sure, why not."

We’re walking into the
kitchen, where the bar area is, and he places his hand on my back.
It’s such a simple gesture, but it feels territorial and nice.

We’re standing talking when
Josh walks in and does a double take. I can feel his eyes glaring at
me but I don’t turn to look because he just did the same thing
to me, so I choose to completely ignore him till I hear his voice and
my body instantly tenses up.

"Hey, Dyl, I see you have met
the beautiful Sasha."

Dylan looks at me, and then back
at Josh, like he is trying to work something out.

"Yeah, we actually work
together. How do you know each other?"

I’m not sure what is going
to come out of Josh's mouth. He could throw me under the bus and tell
Dylan about how we met, but he doesn’t. Instead, he says, "She
is Lola's little sister. Lola is friends with Blake."

"Oh."

Now, I’m wondering what
really is going on with Lola and Aaron. He said “oh” like
he has just worked something out that I’m missing.

The same blonde comes up from
earlier and starts flirting with Josh. I look up and see he has that
panty-dropping smirk on his face. I know he wants a reaction from me
but I’ve chosen to not give him the satisfaction. I’m
distracted when I feel warmth on my thigh. It’s Dylan trying to
get my attention, asking me if I want to dance. I look back at Josh
and he looks furious for a second before he looks back at the blonde
and starts flirting with her again. I smile to myself because he
tries to act like he is the shit, but I know that bothered him; the
evil part of me is cheering inside. I agree and we make our way to
the dance floor after our drinks.

Dylan is a good dancer; though he
can’t dance as well as Josh. A slower song comes on and he
pulls me close. He wraps his arms around my waist and leans in to
kiss me. It’s so unexpected that at first, I just stand
shocked. My mouth finally catches up to my brain and starts working.
My heart starts pounding in my chest and I’m hoping Josh does
not see us kissing. Dylan is a good kisser, not too rough and not too
sloppy. We stand here kissing for what seems like forever. I feel a
tap on my shoulder and turn around; it’s Brit and she doesn’t
look happy.

"What’s up?"

"Lola is going crazy. She is
in the kitchen trying to swing at some girl."

Oh, shit.
We take off to the kitchen with Dylan holding my hand. I see Blake
holding Lola back from some brunette who is yelling and screaming at
Lola. Blake spots me and asks me to get her out of there to cool off
before she goes even crazier. I walk over to Lola and she is
basically crawling up Blake, trying to get to this brunette who is
now smirking at her.

"You better wipe that smile
off your face before I decide to make them let her go and have at
you," I warn her. She looks at me for a while; then turns around
to leave while Lola is still swearing her head off at her.
Thankfully, she walks away.

"Lola, come on, let’s
go home."

"No, Sash. Fuck that bitch. I
ain’t going ‘cause of her."

"Yes, you are. We have to get
up in the morning to study, so grab your shit and let’s go
before I make them carry you out."

She looks at me, and then huffs.
As we walk out the door, I smile, wave to Dylan, and mouth “sorry.”
He just shrugs and mouths “bye.” I don’t know how
to take his reaction as he was the one kissing me so I choose to
ignore it. I turn around and notice Josh standing in the corner
staring at me. He has an impassive look on his face.

Chapter 6

My eyes fly open as my message
tone goes off. Argh! Daylight. Morning already. I pop my head into
Lola’s room on my way to the kitchen for a coffee. She is
laying in her bed, typing away on her phone.

"Good morning, how you
feeling today?”

“Fine. Why?

“Fine? Well, you weren’t
fine last night. What happened?"

"Some bitch was throwing
herself all over Blake right in front of me. Then she had the nerve
to push me out the way when I came up to talk to him."

I raise my eyebrows at her. "So
that calls for you to pummel the chick’s face in?"

"Only if you’re being a
dirty little slut," she says with more venom than seems
necessary.

"Lola, come on. When are you
going to admit you really like Blake?"

"Okay. Well, yeah, I like
Blake. I never said I didn’t. But we just hook up from time to
time, don’t read anything into it, Sasha." Lola says,
trying to brush me off.

"What a load of bullshit,
Lola! You don’t go that crazy if you don’t like the man
more than you’re letting on. You like Blake a lot, and she was
flirting with him! Don’t tell me not to read into it. I am
reading you like a book, and the name of the book is ‘I’m
in Denial’. Am I right?"

She looks up at me with softer
eyes, but then huffs, "I don’t like that book, Sash."
