T
hree hours of questioning at the police station and a bad night’s sleep at Robert’s parents’ house—sorry, mansion—and I was grumpy. Robert had seen me peed off before, but not one of my childish tempers where everything and anything was wrong. I took out my frustrations on him when I shouldn’t. All he was doing was trying to comfort me, but it was too much.

I needed a break and it had only been a day. Turns out his step-dad was some big shot barrister and he’d pulled a few strings within his circle of friends to find out exactly what was going on and what we could do to help the situation get cleared up faster. Honesty was what I was going with. I was already planning on being a huge whistleblower, telling them anything they wanted regarding Harriot and the agency. Why should I show her any loyalty after what she’d done?

Robert took the day off work and we went to the police station, where I went through everything. And when I say everything, I mean
everything
. Right from the beginning, even meeting Robert. I couldn’t hide anything. It felt like a confession, or a therapy session where I vented the last months from my mind.

They dealt with everything in a professional and detached way, not showing personal feelings over the situation, just following up where they thought they could see a lead. The only people I faltered over naming were Harry and Dominque. I kept their names out of it and I would do for as long as I could.

I’d been silent afterwards, a new world record for me because I kept my mouth shut for an hour while we drove home. I broke when I saw the gleaming gold of an M in the distance. “Can we get a McDonalds?”

“Sure.” Robert cleared his throat and glanced at me before he changed lanes. “That was a long time, Seb.” He smiled at me. “I hate this silent treatment.”

“I’d rather be silent than shout at you for no reason. None of this is your fault. I don’t blame you for anything.” I knew he still felt like it was and I hated it. “I’m a big boy. I make my own decisions. Nothing which happened after we met was forced onto me, Robert. It was
all
me. I have no one to blame but myself, and I fucking hate it, but that’s the truth.”

He pulled into the car park for McDonalds and I pointed to the drive through. I wasn’t getting out. The less people I was around, the better. I was likely to punch someone if they got my order wrong, which wasn’t me at all, and let’s face it, they screw you in the drive through by getting your order wrong.

They bend you over and fuck you dry. I'm pretty sure they do it on purpose as some sort of boredom thingy job-wise—laughing their tits off as they watch you pull away without the Big Mac in your Big Mac meal. I mean, hello!!! It’s the main part of the fucking meal. Anyway…

After ordering wayyy too much food, and bitching how they’d run out of strawberry milkshake—that always happens—we parked up and I crammed my Big Mac into my mouth and sighed. Ever since I was a kid, I would find some sort of comfort in this place and it hadn’t changed.

My mood always improves after eating, and half way through my second burger, I leaned back and slurped on my
chocolate
milkshake, looking at Robert as he frowned at the chicken wrap in his hand. He really hated it and it made me smile more.

“Thanks for eating food you hate just to make me feel better.”

“It’s okay, not something I’m really fond of. Anything to make you feel a little happier. Besides, it’s the first thing you’ve eaten since yesterday afternoon. I’m just glad to see you put something in your mouth.”

I chuckled and he rolled his eyes. “You enjoy watching me stuff meat into my mouth? No surprise there, really, is there?”

He smirked as he took a bite from his wrap.

“Can I go see Harry?”

“You don’t have to ask my permission, Seb.”

“Well, I don’t know how to get there, and I don’t know if you’d feel comfortable me just leaving right now.”

“No, I wouldn’t feel too good about you just wandering off, but I can drop you off and pick you up later.” He wiped his hands on a napkin, giving up on his food and packing it away. “I think I know which is his grandmother’s place, but just call him to make sure he’s there and get the address for the sat nav.”

A short call later and Robert was tapping in the postcode while I ate his fries. “You could come too.”

“No, I’ll let you two catch up and go back to my parents. I can catch up with some admin work at home. Just call me when you’re ready.”

he collar of my shirt felt too tight, it was either that or the fact I was nervous. Robert was taking a call, and I was left with his mum in the sitting room. Another evening meal in their overly posh dining room had just finished. I was made welcome, but I did everything wrong, or at least it felt like I did everything wrong.

Charlotte was nice enough and eased me with her kind words, but I still felt like we were strangers. It just seemed all wrong to me, and I felt under pressure to act and say the right thing. Trouble was, I could never seem to pull it off. I think in some way it amused his step-dad, because he always smiled too much at me and was keen to point out he wasn’t laughing
at
me, but
with
me. Yeah, I kinda felt it wasn’t though.

Charlotte had been so sweet to me when we arrived, making sure I knew I was safe and showing me around the house, letting me know I could do what I pleased and to make myself at home. But my home was nothing like theirs—it didn’t have antique furniture and hundred year old paintings of ancestors hung on the walls.

She was keen to point out this was her hubby’s house and they were his relatives, not hers. She was a woman from a family like mine and she understood how over whelming it could feel to be thrown into this life. I was just thankful Robert didn’t live like this, and it made his big house, which seemed too posh and grown up, suddenly feel small and homely. I could see why Robert enjoyed it so much now after being with his parents for a short time.

While Charlotte went to make tea for us all, I snacked on the super sweet dark Belgium chocolate left out on the coffee table and watched the sun dipping below the horizon through the window. It was then I noticed Robert outside, pacing around on the patio in the back garden and looking agitated.

I stood up, moving the curtains and peeking out at him, wondering what had got him so mad and worrying it was something to do with me. He very rarely got mad, especially not with me, or in front of me anyway, and I stared at the anger and frustration on his face, watched as he threw his hands into the air then looked to where he was pointing and understanding why he was so mad.

There was Leo, all smug and trying to calm Robert, holding his palms up and walking toward him.

I fisted my hands beside me and ground my jaw. I fucking hated this pillock. He needed to fuck off out of our lives and fast.

Charlotte appeared behind me and sighed. “I’m sorry. I had no idea he was here until a moment ago. He does tend to turn up unannounced. He just can’t seem to let Robert go.”

“He’s a
huge
dick.” I rolled my eyes and looked at her. “Sorry, I know you and him are friends.”

She ran her hand down my arm and took hold of my hand in hers. “I never liked him as much as I like you. There was always something off about him, which I couldn’t place my finger on. I liked him well enough, but I always knew Robert wasn’t happy.” She kissed my cheek softy then hugged me. “You make him happy, Seb, and that’s all a mother can hope for. I’m so glad he found you. I like you a lot, I want you to believe that. You’re such an honest person, and so sweet.”

“Thanks.” I grinned at her. “Good to hear, especially as Leo is always telling Robert how close you and him are.” I looked back to them both and sighed. “You don’t want him to get back with Leo then?”

“No. Not at all. I want him happy and he’s got that with you, so here you are.” She gave me a wide smile. “I have no problems saying that to him either. Come on, let’s go.”

She had my hand in hers, and her other twisting the handle on the artistically framed French doors we were looking out of. She and I stepped into the garden, Robert’s eyes finding mine as soon as we did, and I smiled at the uneasy and almost guilty look on his face. He mouthed I’m sorry as we walked to him and then turned back to Leo.

By the time we got to them, they had fallen quiet and they both dragged their cold gaze off the other and I smiled at him. “Hi, Leo.”

“Sebastian.” He nodded curtly, then smiled at Charlotte. “I hope I didn’t disturb your evening, I just needed to speak to Robert.”

“Oh yeah—” I jumped in quicker than Usain Bolt in the Olympics. “I’ve heard there’s this
new
invention called…” I looked up to the sky and bit my lip, overplaying the moment. “Oh yeah, that’s it.” I clicked my fingers and looked into Leo’s stone-like blue eyes. “Phones! They help you out with situations where you need to
talk
.”

I noticed Robert trying not to grin, but it slipped out anyway and I quickly continued.

“Not sure if you’ve heard of them too. If not, maybe you should look them up and try calling next time. It makes life
so
much easier having this fancy technology. I just called my mum yesterday in Leeds. Leeds! And I didn’t have to walk two hundred miles to do it either. Astounding, aint it? Just think what we can achieve in the next few years now we have them.”

My eyes rolled so hard I think I ruptured something important, but it was worth going blind over. I just couldn’t care less.

I’d never actually seen anyone stiffer than marble, but hey, there’s always a first. Leo didn’t move, his gaze holding mine, and every inch of him stuck rigid as he breathed slowly. Robert had to turn away, running both of his hands through his hair and keeping his back to us as he chuckled, the shaking of his body giving him away as he stayed otherwise silent.

Seeing Charlotte cough slightly as she covered her mouth with her hand, hiding her smile made me instantly love her. “It looked more like an argument than a talk.” Charlotte wrapped one of her arms around me and held me close as she smirked at me. “Sebastian and Robert have been through enough recently without all this drama. I’d like them to feel safe and secure here, Leo, and I think your presence is making them both uneasy. I’d like you to leave.” Her stern look made Leo falter, and then he looked to me and almost growled.

“I came to speak to Robert, not you.”

“We’re done here, Leo.” Robert moved to me and his mum, taking my hand in his before leaning in and kissing me. “Go back inside, baby, while I escort Leo off the premises. Mum, please.”

“Okay, okay.” She tugged me with her and I smiled coldly at Leo before we made our way back inside.

After that little moment, I felt like going upstairs and being alone, so I took my tea and a book I’d borrowed from her collection and made my way up the grand staircase, being super careful not to spill my tea on the burgundy, thick carpet on the way.

Robert and I had this amazing room, lush deep pink and cream with a four poster bed in it which we tried out the first night we arrived. I grinned as I remembered sliding inside his tight arse, caressing his thighs as he wrapped them around me.

That was a good memory, and one I think we shared with both his parents because apparently from the looks we both got at breakfast, we weren’t really as quiet as we thought we’d been. I mean, the walls looked thick, so who knew they would hear us fucking? By us, I mean Robert. He was the one doing all the moaning and calling out for my cock inside him.
