She howled again and again, and in the distance her howls were greeted by others. She wasn’t the only one, on this blood moon evening who had to bear the burden of being forced into a loveless union.

What happened to love and everlasting commitment, why settle for anything less?
She asked herself.
My parents were in love, why would my father not allow me to find that love too?
So many questions remained unanswered.

The breeze that drifted past her carried the scent of a deer and it quickly drew her attention, she had to expend this energy, get rid of the rage somehow, and hunting was just what she needed, even though she was not hungry.

She took off in the direction of the scent that clung to the moisture of her nose. As she closed in on her target, the deer broke through the brush and bolted away from her. She sprinted after the doomed animal. She zeroed in on the sound of blood thundering through its veins. Gaining on the deer, it shot to her left, and she sped straight ahead to cut it off in front. She could read these animals like the back of her hand, and as expected the deer leapt into her path again. She lunged forward and with all her weight crashed into the animal, forcing it to the ground before snapping down on its neck.

The animal struggled for a while, trying to break free but finally its life force drained and it suffocated and stilled. She tore viciously into its neck ripping its flesh, not to feed but to destroy. The animal’s blood gushed from its neck and Lorelai twisted onto her back and bathed herself in the thick red liquid that now stained the ground. She was suddenly overcome with grief and anguish at the thought of never being loved.

Chapter 3

“Let no one who loves be called altogether unhappy. Even love unreturned has its rainbow.” J.M. Barrie

Dominic stood outside the Rustic Shed as his pack feasted inside, drinking and fooling around with females from the other packs. Ever since he can remember he had his eyes on Marcus Farbridge’s daughter. The feisty woman just turned eighteen but so determined and confident. Her long, silky, cinnamon colored hair and her hazel eyes captivated him from the very first moment he saw her standing next to her dad. And as for the rest of her, she had a smooth bronze skin, built for endurance, with full lips and a face that could have been carved by an artist. And until now she was out of his reach. Being the daughter of an alpha, he would never have had the pleasure of securing her as his, but since he became the alpha of the Silver Wolves he had the leverage to claim any female he wanted as his mate. He counted down the months leading up to this meeting, and when it finally arrived, he knew he would settle for no less than to have her, either by free will or by wager.

He was well aware that she loathed him at this point, but he had faith it would soon pass. When he looked at her earlier he saw the desire in her eyes, so all was not lost.

“I don’t think Lorelai is pleased with the union,” it was Marcus who came to stand beside him.

“She’ll get over it,” Dominic said and glanced up at the moon, “In due time, she’ll accept it. She has no choice.”

“Will you take care of her?”

Dominic turned to Marcus and looked at him penetratingly, “Let me get this straight, when you were given the chance to protect her, you wagered her freedom for the sake of your pack?”

Marcus’ cheeks grew red and Dominic knew he had hit a tender spot. He felt sorry for the other alpha, but weakness is the last thing he could allow to show.

“You know it wasn’t like that. If the northern and southern packs don’t merge, we would all be left to fend for ourselves in a world where we are monsters, hunted and discarded like useless animals, or worse, used as science projects.”

“Lorelai will be safe, and comfortable,” he conceded and then turned his back on Marcus.

In the distance he could hear the agonizing cry of his promised mate and he had to force himself not to go after her. While some of the pack insisted he take her right there and then, others were opposed. The southern packs had different rules and laws to those from the north. But even so, he refused to be intimidated by any of them. She may be promised to him, but he will not force himself on anyone. Besides, he wanted her to eventually submit to him out of her own free will. It was a long shot, but he trusted his instincts.

A woman cleared her throat behind him and he turned around, it was Lorelai’s mother this time. They must think him to be a cruel heartless alpha, what was it with everyone wanting to know if he’ll take care of her?

“I told your husband, Lorelai will be fine,” he said blankly and crossed his arms.

Her mother smiled, and he saw the same glint in her eyes that he saw in Lorelai’s so many times before, it was one of compassion and bravery, “That’s not what I’m here for, I’m sure you’ll take care of her. I have a request though.”

“And what would that be?” he asked curiously.

“Before you take her with you, I’d like to talk to my daughter.”

It was a strange request, since she was technically no longer a member of the Shadow Fangs, but she was the mother of his new mate, surely he could grant her that wish.

“I want to be on the road by morning, so if you want to have a moment with her, make sure she’s ready by the time we leave.”

She nodded once, and then headed towards the forest to find her daughter, and Dominic left to go back into the bar. He needed his music, it was the only thing that kept him sane and in control.

Chapter 4

“Sometimes our walls exist just to see who has the strength to knock
them down.”

Darnell Lamont Walker

Dominic woke up to the sound of the door to the cabin opening up, and knew immediately that it was Lorelai. In silence she went and sat on the drum in the corner of the cabin. It was still dark and although he could only see her silhouette he knew she was naked and his body responded almost immediately. The scent of stale blood also hung heavily in the air.

If only I could get into her mind
, he thought as he shifted to sit upright. But he knew that until he consummated the union with her, she would remain a complete stranger to him. Maybe he should have taken her there and then and made her his own, but the idea of having her submit to him unwillingly left a bitter taste in his mouth.

“So this is it now? I’m yours,” she stated flatly.

“I believe so,” he said.

There was a deafening silence from her and he knew it was the calm before the storm. He didn’t take her to be so easily overthrown or intimidated.

“Speak your mind woman,” he said as he stood up, he wanted to see the fire he saw in her when he first laid eyes on her, and if it meant provoking her, then so be it.

“My mind?” she said mordantly. “It’s obvious that whatever goes on in my mind is irrelevant to you or anyone else for that matter.”

“That’s not entirely true, our laws are different Lorelei, and if I approached another alpha’s daughter, or any omega from an opposing pack, without approval, it would have dire consequences,” he said wishing he could at least see the expression on her face.

“Well it’s time that changed, because I can tell you know, if, and I mean if I ever have your child, I will kill the bastard who doesn’t have the backbone to ask her directly. Only a weak bastard would do such a thing,” she spat out and stood up glaring at him.

His blood rushed south at the sight of her. She stood before him, naked and determined and her confidence radiated like the morning sun incinerating everything in its path. And even though she was stained with stale blood from the night before, he couldn’t deny that he wanted her there and then. His beast needed her as much as it needed its next feed.

Lorelai knew exactly what was expected of her, her mother made it clear to her that she had no choice but to go with Dominic and take her place by his side. It was a matter of survival for the Shadow Fangs, without the alliances of the southern packs they would soon be scattered to the far corners of the earth. The hunters were getting stronger in the north and very soon, there would be no place for them here.

She could see the burning desire in his eyes as he stood staring at her, but in her rage she erected walls that not even she could break down.

“So let’s do this,” she said and took another step towards him.

“There is no need to rush this,” he said and stood his ground.

“There is no other way, if I’m going to be leaving with your pack by the time the sun rises; we need to get this over and done with. There’s no way in hell that I’m going to run blindly with a pack I don’t know.”

As awkward as this was, she knew she had no choice. She will simply have to think of her favorite shoes when he shoves his dick in her, which would be the only way she’ll be able to survive this.

“I don’t think that’s…”

“Oh for god sakes, and you call yourself an Alpha?!” she retorted and shoved past him and kneeled on the bed with her ass sticking up in the air. She looked over her shoulders and glared at him daringly. “Do what you must.”

She half expected him to run for the hills, but instead he stripped down and walked over to her and as he approached her, she buried her face in the mattress.
Please let this be over soon,
she said bracing herself.

Unexpectedly, Dominic wrapped his arm around her waist and flipped her onto her back pinning her arms above her head, “We might be shifters, but if I am going to fuck you, I’m going to do it the right way.”

Shocked by the fact that his assertiveness was a total turn on she shoved against his shoulders but it was in vain, he was much stronger than her.

“We are animals, why deny the truth?” she challenged as she wriggled under his grip.

“The only animal around here is you,” he growled and then plundered her lips.

This cannot be happening, I can’t possibly be turned on by this,
she thought as his lips slanted against hers. Even if she willed it, she couldn’t deny her wolf its desires. Her beast was begging to be fucked, her body was yearning to be touched and her mind was fighting a losing battle.

Chapter 5

“The greatness of the man's power is the measure of his surrender.”

William Booth

He sensed her apprehension but his wolf sensed his mate, he wanted her. The scent of her arousal beseeched him and drew him in and he was quickly passing the point of no return. Her lips finally parted for his and his tongue darted into her mouth, tasting her sweet surrender. His wolf howled in triumph as he felt her body soften beneath him. As he feasted on her lips, they changed from tight and cold, to soft and moist. Their tongues swirled together synchronously. With her hands still locked in a vice, he trailed one hand down along her raised arm and over her left breast. She was soft and feminine despite her cold exterior. Even though her mind still fought him, her body reacted differently. There was no more room for doubt.

He kissed down her neck and his desire to explore her took over. He dipped his head down and took one nipple in his mouth circling it with his tongue. The soft moans that escaped Lorelei brought a wicked grin to his lips. He had her where he wanted her, she wanted him. He trailed his hand down over her flat stomach and then moved it over her sex; she was soaking wet, and ready for him.

“Do you still think we’re just animals?” he whispered against her soft breast.

“Y-yes, we are, you are an animal,” she said.

One by one the walls she erected were starting to crumble, he could sense it, her wolf wanted him as much as his wolf wanted her. With his hand nestled between her thighs he teased her, pinching her clit between his index and middle finger, eliciting yet another groan of pleasure from her.

“Just get on with it,” she said breathlessly, but he knew her body was enjoying this.

He slid his finger deep into her and her body tensed, only momentarily and then her hips started moving and rotating to the rhythm of his finger strokes.

“Dominic, please,” she begged and again struggled against his grip, “just…”

“Just what?” he teased as he pumped a second finger into her. Her muscles tightened around his fingers and he knew she was ready for him, but he wanted her to beg him.

“Please, I cannot stand this any longer.”

Dominic could hear the slight tremble in her voice, and moved to look into her eyes.

“Tell me you want me, tell me that you want me to fuck you,” he commanded.

And even though her eyes were still as cold as ice, she raised her hips taking his fingers deeper, “Fuck me,” she pleaded and let out a soft growl, her eyes flashing from grey to amber.

He did not wait for her to beg again, if she allowed him now, she will allow him tomorrow and the next day. He locked eyes with her and released her hands above her head.

He knelt back on the edge of the bed and pushed her legs apart by her knees, spreading her wide before him. Her scent was intoxicating, he had to be sure that her body wanted him and if there was the slightest chance that her body was not as responsive as he hoped it would be, he would get up right now and walk away. And as he inhaled deeply he smelled her need and it drew him in like a magnet. With one even stroke, he dipped his hips downward and entered her. Her back arched and her legs came around his back pulling him into her. His body surged with primal dominance as he thrusted into her core. With each thrust he felt her draw closer and closer to her climax.
