“Ma, stop it!” Quan cried
. He ran over and got between Tre and I pushing me back away from Tre. “Stop fighting!”

“Be quiet Quan!” I told him.

“Please ma, don’t fight!” Shaun joined in. They were both crying.

“I want you out of my yard.” Tre looked at me with a disgusted look on his face.

“Oh what you mad now because I whooped that bitch’s ass?” I hauled off and slapped him again. “Huh? You mad Tre?”

“Ma!!!”
Both boys cried jumping up and down!

“Nah, I’m mad because you were fighting her while she was holding my baby in her arms!” He roared stepping closer in my face.

Hearing the words
my baby
only infuriated me more. I drew back to hit him again but he grabbed my arm. “Kisha if you put your hands on me one more time I promise you that I am going to fuck you up! Now get in your car and leave!”

I could see in his eyes that he wasn’t playing. “Come on Shaun and Quan.” I told the boys.

“I want to stay with my daddy.” Shaun cried.

“Me too.”
Quan added.

“No, get in the fuckin’ car!” I yelled. They both started screaming and crying louder.
“You know what, fuck it! Stay your asses here then.” I jumped in my car and left out of the yard squealing tires!

After Kisha left, I took the boys in the house. They were really upset. Lala was in the living room holding Laila. She was rocking her back and forth with tears streaming down her cheeks.

“Is she okay?” I asked referring to Laila.

“Yeah, she’s fine. She didn’t fall. I got down on the floor to keep her from falling or getting hit.” She replied staring off into space. I’d never seen her like this before so I wasn’t sure of what I should say.

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m fine.” She still didn’t look my way. “You know, I understand her anger and I can understand her wanting to whoop my ass. I get that. To her, I am the woman who destroyed her home…her family but there is a time and a place for everything. This was not the time or the place. One of these children could’ve gotten hurt!” She finally looked at me. She had a long scratch on her face but that was the only visible scar that I saw. “Tre, I have never been a violent person in my entire life but for that shit that she just pulled, I promise you that I am going to tear her ass up when I see her again and I mean that! She could’ve seriously hurt my baby.”

I let out a sigh. “Yeah, I know but I really just want this mess to be over.” I sat down on the sofa and Shaun and Quan both climbed up on my lap. No one said anything for a while. I looked over at Lola who was asleep in her swing, that’s where I’d put her when Kisha started to fight Lala. I finally had all of my kids under one roof.

After Lala put Laila to sleep, she told me that she was going to take a nap because she had a headache. I’d given her the bedroom to sleep in and I’d taken the sofa while she was there. There was nothing sexual between us, we were strictly friends. To be perfectly honest, I didn’t want there to be anything between us. I didn’t want there to be anything between me and anybody at this point. I just wanted to focus on getting everything back on track. I couldn’t say what the future would hold for us but at that moment, I liked things just the way that they were.

After Lala went down the hall to take her nap, I sat the boys down and explained to them that the babies were their sisters. Of course they were confused but I tried to explain it the best way that I could.
I’m still not sure if they fully got it.

The next day, I decided to take all of the kids over to my parent’s house, since they hadn’t seen the boys in a while and my mama was acting like she couldn’t get enough of the girls. Lala had asked if I would drop her off at her parent’s house for a while and pick her up when I left my parent’s house. I dropped her off and then the kid’s and I headed to my parent’s house. When we got there the boys ran in ahead of me. It took me a while because I had to get both babies out of the car. My daddy came out and gave me a hand. He took Laila and we went inside.

“Awww…ain’t this just nice.” My mama beamed. “I have all of my grandbabies over here together. I have to take some pictures!” She jumped up and ran to the back.

My daddy laughed shaking his head. “You just made your mama the happiest woman alive!”

I laughed too. “I see.”

My ma came back with the camera. “Tre, hold both of the girls and Shaun and Quan, y’all get over there and stand next to your daddy.” My dad brought me Laila and placed her in my other arm and Shaun and Quan did what she’d asked. She started snapping away.

After about six shots the boys started to get restless. “Can we stop taking pictures now grandma?” Shaun whined.

“Yeah, I guess you can.” She laughed and kissed him on his cheek. “Who wants a slice of grandma’s chocolate cake?”

Both boys yelled. “Me!” and then raced into the kitchen. My ma followed them.

“Son, I am really proud of you for how you have stepped up and are doing what you are supposed to do.”

“Thanks pops.” I smiled. “Kisha came over to the house yesterday. When she saw Lala, she went off!”

Ohhhh man, in front of the kids?” He asked getting up and coming over and taking Laila from me. “You look like you could use an extra set of arms.”

“Yeah…” I continued my story. “Yes, she went off right in front of the kids, jumped
on Lala with her holding Laila in her arms!”

My dad shook his head. “Now I can understand her being mad but she knew better than that.”

“That’s the same thing that I said.” My phone rang, I took it out of my pocket to see who was calling and saw Casper’s name flashing on the screen. I pressed send to answer. “Hello.”

“Hey man, what’s good with you?” He asked. I could hear music playing in the background and a lot of other noise that I couldn’t make out.
“Where you at?”

“I’m over here at my mama and daddy’s crib
chillin’.” I replied. “What are y’all guys doing?”

“Nothing much, I cooked a
lil food on the grill and shit. You do remember what today is right?”

That’s when it hit me! Today was his birthday! “Oh snap, happy birthday man!”

“Thanks, I was hoping that you would come through. Ever since you and Skeet stop fuckin’ with each other you don’t come through no more.”

“Man, I’m just trying to stay out of trouble.” I admitted. “I can’t come through today though because I have my kids with me.”

“Man, you don’t have to stay long. Just come through and get a plate or something and drink a beer with me for my birthday. Shit don’t feel right without you here!” He confessed making me feel bad. “I don’t have shit to do with what’s going on between you and Skeet. That’s between y’all but you and I have been friends for a long ass time so I feel like what y’all got going on shouldn’t affect you coming through to holla at me for my birthday”

“I feel you man but it ain’
t like that.”

“Well come through then, just for a few minutes.”

“Alright, I’ll be through in a lil while but I’m not going to stay long.”

“Aight, that’s what’s up.” We hung up.

“Pops do you think ma will watch the kids for about an hour so that I can go over and holla at Casper for his birthday? I won’t be long because the girls don’t have but a bottle a piece in the diaper bag.”

“Yeah, go ahead. We’ll watch them but don’t be long because neither of us has any breast milk if these babies get hungry after that bottle is gone.”

I laughed at my pops. “Alright.”

“Bring Ms. Lol
a over here and place her in my other arm. We are going to lay here and look at TV.” I did as he said and then left.

Tre

As I headed to Casper’s crib, I had a bad feeling. I started to turn around and go back to my parent’s crib but I decided to go ahead over to holla at him since it was his birthday. I took out my phone and called Lala.

“Hello.” She answered after the third ring.

“Hey, I was just calling to let you know that I am going to run over to my boy Casper’s crib for about an hour. It’s his birthday and he wanted me to come through and drink a beer with him but I’m not going to be over there long.” I told her.

“Okay…Tre, don’t get drunk because you have to go back and pick the kids up.”

“Oh, I’m not. I’m only going to drink one beer.”

“Okay, well call me when you are on your way so that I will be ready.”

“Aight.” I hung up and turned up the radio.

When I got to Casper’s crib there was a nice
lil crowd there. I parked on side of the street and got out. I walked up into the yard speaking to a few people that I knew along the way. I spotted Casper and the rest of the crew up by the porch. I walked over to where they were and gave everybody dap. To my surprise, Skeet spoke and dapped me up too. Kisha was standing next to him rolling her eyes.

“What’s good
wit’cha birthday boy?” I asked Casper. “How old are you today?”

“I’m twenty-seven years fuckin’ old!” He shouted! I could tell he was damn near wasted. He wasn’t feeling any pain at all! “Get you a beer man! Somebody give my nigga a motherfuckin beer!”

Tamika walked up to me and handed me a cold Bud Ice. “Here you go.”

“Thanks.” I said taking the beer from her.

Casper grabbed Tamika around her waist from behind and pulled her back into him, kissing her sloppily on the side of her face! “Look at my baby, ain’t she finer than a motherfucka! I swear I love this woman to death!”

Tamika tried to break away from Casper but he wouldn’t let go. “Move Casper, you’re drunk!” She yelled screwing her face up and still trying to break away.

His hands were all over her like those of an octopus. He was rubbing all over her titties in front of everybody! “Oh be quiet and stop frontin’ you know you love it when I’m drunk” He laughed kissing on her neck! “I’m going to tear that pussy up tonight! You gone give ya man some birthday sex baby?”

“Man, you are fucked up!” Tyson teased. “You don’t need
nothing else to drink!”

“You can say that again!” Tamika agreed finally breaking a loose from Casper’s grasp. She fixed the short baby blue sundress that she was wearing and switched off across the yard.

“Damn Casper, your ass is bent!” I laughed. I don’t believe that I’d ever seen him that fucked up before.

“Yeah, I am feeling good.” He laughed too. I stood there talking to him and the rest of the fellas for a while and drinking my beer. I took my phone out of my pocket and looked at the time. I’d been there for over an hour. “I’m going in the house to take a piss and then I have to go.” I told Casper.

“Go ahead on in the house man! You know you don’t have to ask me if you can use my bathroom! We are like family.”

I went inside and used the bathroom. On my way out of the bathroom, I bumped into Tamika who had been standing at the door. “Damn girl, you scared the shit out of me!”

“Hmph…anyways can I see you tonight?”

“What?” I snapped looking at her like she was stupid. “Girl, move out of my way!” I tried to walk past her but she jumped in front of me.

“Why?”

“Tamika, go ahead on! It’s your man’s birthday and you are in here acting like a hoe, begging me for some dick!”

“You have a nerve to be calling somebody a hoe when ya babymama fuckin Skeet!”

“Whatever, that’s her! That ain’t got shit to do with me!”

“Why are you trippin’ Tre? Come on…” She reached out and rubbed my chest but I knocked her hand back. “Don’t front like you didn’t like the way that this pussy used to feel, the way that you used to be moaning when you were fuckin’ me…”

I heard something click and looked up, Casper was standing there swaying back and forth holding a pistol. He was staring at me through drunken hate filled eyes. “You ain’t shit nigga!
You and me are supposed to be like brothers and you are fuckin’ my girl? Gotdamn it, Tre! You know how much I loved this girl! How you gone do some shit like this?”

I opened my mouth to speak but I didn’t get a chance to say anything before the gun went off. I thought that I’d been hit but when Tamika fell into me I realized that it was her that had been shot. I looked up just in time to see him pulling the trigger,
the first bullet hit me in the shoulder, the gun went off again and I felt a bullet rip through my stomach. I fell backwards onto the floor and then another one hit me in the chest after that everything went black…
