They clung to one another, riding out the aftershocks of such fierce lovemaking while the fire raged on in the distance.
It took only forty-five minutes for the small trailer to burn down to the ground. There wasn’t much to it to begin with and what was there had been mostly cheap siding and broken wood which burned quickly.
As the last flame shot into the air and the blaze settled into a slow smolder, Jed turned to Abigail. She sat snuggled into his side, wearing nothing but her panties and his discarded T-shirt. “Marry me, Abigail Hart. I don’t have a lot to offer, but everything I have is already yours. Marry me and I promise to spend the rest of my life loving you the way you were meant to be loved.”
Her gaze skated to the remnants of her childhood home. She drew in a deep breath of the smoke-laden air, then turned to him. She gave a small nod, a matching smile tilting her perfect lips. “Yes.”
