“Hi, Zach. He’s actually here with me now.

Could you come over for a little bit?”

“Of course!” Zach responded, immediately jumping up from the bed and motioning for Paige to do the same.

“Paige and I will be there in a few minutes.”

“He’s there!” Zach exclaimed to Paige as he disconnected the call with a thrill in his voice.

Paige’s eyes sparkled with anticipation as she grabbed her bag and his hand and followed him down the stairs.

“Mom, Zach and I are gonna go out for a little bit, okay?” Paige hollered as she sailed past the kitchen where her mom was working.

“Will you be back in time for supper?” she asked, turning her head to see the two whiz by.

“Probably not; don’t wait for us,” Paige answered and was out the door before Cathy had a chance to object.

She trusted her daughter, and Zach seemed like a perfect gentleman, so she didn’t worry too much about what they were up to.

They hopped into Zach’s car and raced to Jessica’s house, too nervous to even speculate about what they were about to learn.

When they arrived, Zach realized his hands were shaking as he removed the keys from the ignition, and Paige laid hers on top of his to soothe his raging emotions.

A few seconds of staring into her gentle eyes was enough to calm Zach’s pounding heart and he took a deep breath and said, “Let’s do this,” before swinging open the car door and climbing out.

When he rounded the side of the car he immediately reached for Paige’s hand again and the two quickly traveled the length of the sidewalk and climbed the few stairs to Jessica’s door.

Before they had a chance to knock, the door swung open and they were face to face with the man who held the key to a lifetime of secrets.

Zach didn’t know what he expected, but it certainly wasn’t this normal-looking, middle age man who smiled kindly at Zach and Paige then stepped aside so they could come in.

They entered the cool, dim house and it took a moment for their eyes to adjust, but they could see Jessica standing right behind Michael, her hand in his, and although she looked nervous, there was a happiness about her that hadn’t been there before.

It made her even more beautiful.

“Hi, Zach, Paige, and…Cody?” Michael greeted them nervously, holding out a hand to shake.

“I’m Michael Andrews.

Jessica’s told me a lot about you.”

Zach and Paige took turns shaking his hand and offered their own nervous smiles before Jessica suggested they all sit down in the living room.

Everyone nodded and shuffled over to the couch.

“Kids, there’s a lot I need to tell you, but I think it would be best if the others were here, too.

Would you mind calling them to find out where they’re at?”

“Oh, they went back to Indianapolis.

They had to go to school,” Paige explained.

Michael nodded.

“Yes, I understand.

But can you please find out where they are right now?”

Zach and Paige exchanged a strange look, but Paige pulled out her phone and dialed Rachel’s number.

“Ask them if they are free to talk with us for a little while this evening,” Michael requested, and Paige nodded, assuming he wanted to FaceTime.

“Call back later, she’s busy,” Rider answered Rachel’s phone and almost hung up before he heard Paige yelling at him to hold on.

“Wait, Rider!

It’s important!” Paige cried out.

She heard rustling and a few thumps before Rachel’s voice finally came on the line.

“You better be dying or something because I was enjoying the best kiss of my life, Paige Donovan!” Rachel announced dramatically.

“Michael’s here,” was all Paige had to say.

The line went silent and she thought Rachel had hung up on her, but instead Rider grabbed the phone.

“What did he say?” Rider demanded, sitting up on the bed.

All thoughts of the passionate embrace he and Rachel were enjoying evaporated from his mind.

“He wants to know where you are and if you’re free to talk tonight,” Paige explained.

“Of course!” Rider practically shouted.

“We’re at Rachel’s house, hanging out.”

Michael gestured to Paige and she glanced at him.

“Ask them to go outside.”

Paige raised an eyebrow in confusion but relayed the message, and a few minutes later Rachel confirmed that they were standing in the middle of the backyard as requested.

“Take my hands,” Michael said, holding out his palms to Zach, Paige, and Jessica.

The three stared oddly at Michael.

“Please, you’ll see why.”

With a shrug, they reached out and formed a circle.

“What’s going on?” Rachel asked, her voice a tiny squeak coming from the phone Paige had laid on the table.

“I’ll explain in just a moment,” Michael replied, and instantly he, Zach, Paige, and Jessica were standing in Rachel’s back yard.

“HOLY COW!!” Paige and Rachel both screamed in unison as they saw each other and realized what had happened.

Zach and Rider both grinned at each other with goofy smiles, and Jessica stared at Michael like a mother seeing her newborn infant for the very first time.

“I’m Michael, and I hear we might be related,” he announced and held out his hand to Rider who shook his head in fascination and took Michael’s hand.

“I think maybe so,” Rider replied with a smile.
