"My love, stop fretting. That is over," Valegar soothed.

"Ilya was at the hearing," I said, closing my eyes. "The minute I became Larentii, he got up and left."

"I know." Valegar was just as upset as I was about that. "The others stayed. Edden Charkisul is begging to see you, as are Gerrett, Caylon and Bekzi."

"Val, I feel so tired," I mumbled.

"I know. This has not been easy for you, my love. Will you not let them care for you? I believe they'd like nothing better."

"I'll think about it," I said.

"What's this?" I waved the piece of paper at Rigo. Ever since I'd come from the shadows and met Rigo's Queen, I'd gotten more correspondence than I ever had before becoming vampire.

"It's a wedding invitation," Rigo said. "If you'd read it, you'd see for yourself."

"I don't want to attend a wedding."

"What you want doesn't matter. My Queen requests it; therefore, you will go. I hear there may not be a ceremony, however. Rumor has it that Miss Lexsi will refuse the arranged marriage to her High Demon intended. Perhaps there is another reason Lissa wants you to be there."

"I hope not. Will there be cake?"

I'd gotten a taste for sweets, once I could eat normal food again.

"There will certainly be cake, Lord Abenott," Rigo grinned.

"Then what shall I wear, King Rigo?" I asked.
