“He’s not in here tonight. He’s with Mrs. Murphy and Helen,” she explained.

Thomas froze.
Is that what she had to tell him? She was moving from his room? Would she leave him next? Panic seized him. How could he stop her?

“You really do care for him?” she asked with a smile.

What was she speaking of?

“He’ll be fine Thomas. He’s in good hands,” she said softly, moving toward him and placing a hand on his cheek.

He’s in good hands.
Who…?
Thomas’s mind raced to catch up.

“I love you
,” she said, placing her other hand on his other cheek.

The words were so sudden, he wasn’t certain he’d heard them. “What?” he asked quietly.

“Thomas, I love you,” she said again. She smiled and leaned up on her toes and brushed his lips with hers, hands sliding behind his neck. “I love you more than I’ve ever loved
anyone
,” she emphasized.

He swallowed hard
. “You love me more than Lucas,” he stated. The words were out before he could stop them.

“Yes,
” she said simply. “What I felt for him was merely a shadow of what I feel for you, Thomas.” Again she kissed him.

His mind was awhirl.
He wanted to laugh. She loved him! Then it dawned on him. The baby was not in here. Maggie had made arrangements for him for the night, which could only mean…

“A
nd…,” her cheeks flushed crimson. Then in a very quiet voice she added, “I desire to be your wife in all ways.”

“You do
,” he said with a dark smile.

“If you want me
, that is,” she said uncertainly.

He
slid a hand up through her hair, pulling the remaining pins from the bun that held it. He sighed in pleasure as her dark, brown hair spilled down to her waist. “If I want you,” he said. He dipped his head and brushed her lips with his. “Maggie, I’ve wanted you since I first laid eyes on you.” Then he kissed her as he longed to do, kissed her with the passion of a man who loved her beyond anything he had ever known. And she returned that kiss with just as much passion. She fit perfectly in his arms and melded perfectly with his body. And finally, after all of his patient waiting, Thomas made her his wife in full.
