They ate dinner and talked about having the double wedding ceremony. Kurt and Andy agreed that it would be a great idea. Kurt said, "That's a great idea, girls. It will save us some money too, with splitting the costs for the reception and the DJ. Andy, you have a friend that does DJ stuff right?" Andy nodded and Kurt said, "Could you see about booking him for the reception?"
Andy said, "Yeah Kurt, I'll call Joey tomorrow and ask him. What is the date going to be, anyhow?"
"Saturday, October 22nd, at noon for the ceremony, 1:00 pm for the reception." Jessica said. And with that, they spent most of the evening planning and making important decisions. Two hours later, they decided it was time to leave and go home. Kurt and Andy went out and saddled all four of the horses while Jessica and Joanie cleaned up inside.
With the cleaning all done, the women closed the cabin door and locked it, then went to where the men were standing with the horses, waiting to go. They all mounted up and rode out, Jessica and Kurt riding Lady and Cajun, Joanie and Andy riding Big Red and Andy's Pride. They rode together on the trail to where it met the road, then went in opposite directions; Andy and Joanie north to Andy's house, Jessica and Kurt south to her house. Andy and Joanie arrived at the house in about forty minutes, and unsaddled the horses, letting them loose in the pasture and putting the saddles in the barn. They got in Jessica's car and drove it to her house for her, where Andy would get his truck, then take Joanie home.
Kurt and Jessica just came from the barn after unsaddling Cajun and Lady and putting away the saddles when Andy and Joanie pulled into the driveway with Jessica's car. Jessica invited them in for coffee. They enjoyed the coffee and donuts that Jessica made, then they hugged and shook hands before Andy and Joanie left. As soon as the truck was out of sight, Kurt pulled Jessica to him and wrapped his arms tight around her. Jessica giggled and said, "You need to go bring Precious in from the barn, honey. Now that we're home, she can be inside with us instead of in the barn."
Kurt smiled and said, "You drive a hard bargain, baby. I'll go out and get her, honey." Then he went outside to the barn to get the puppy while Jessica cleaned up the coffee cups and plates and the coffee maker. She tidied up the livingroom and kitchen, then went in the bathroom and undressed to take a shower. While Kurt was in the barn, he cleaned up any messes that Precious made, then put fresh straw in the corner of her stall. He checked the horses' food and water, then went inside, Precious trailing behind him.
When he went inside, he saw that Jessica had cleaned up and he heard the shower running. Precious went into the livingroom and curled up to sleep on the rug in front of the fireplace. Kurt went into the bathroom and saw Jessica in the shower, washing her hair. The weeks flew by for Kurt, Jessica, Andy and Joanie. Andy was working hard at the Stevenson Dairy Farm, and Joanie was busy with her job at the Petco store. The total cost for the cakes was going to be no less than $200, including the miniature brides and grooms on the tops of each cake.
Andy and Kurt bought their tuxedos, which would serve double duty as Groom and Best Man for each other. Before they knew it, the wedding day was only a week away. The invitations had been sent, RSVP's received for both weddings, final reservations made for the ceremony and reception, confirmation of the DJ for the reception, the tuxedos and gowns all ready to go, luggage packed for the honeymoon, and all the little details were taken care of. They had received RSVP's from all of the guests, 150 in all for both couples. Jessica and Joanie had appointments at the salon the morning of the wedding to get their hair, nails and makeup done, and the guys both went to the barber shop for a haircut. Jessica and Joanie went to Joanie's house to dress while the guys both went to Jessica's house.
"I have a surprise scheduled for the ladies after the ceremony, Andy." Kurt said as they adjusted each other's bow ties in the livingroom.
"Oh yeah? What's that, Kurt?" he asked.
"Well, I've hired Mr. Williams and his brother Joe to drive a pair of horse-drawn carriages from the church ceremony to the country club for the reception. Mr. Williams will drive the carriage for Jessica and I, and Joe will drive your carriage." Kurt responded with a smile.
"Wow dude! The girls are going to love that! You really went all out on this, didn't you Kurt?" Andy said.
"Yeah, I did. I wanted it to be a day that our two beautiful ladies would never forget. I even got Mr. Gaines, the village photographer, to take all the photographs for the wedding and the reception at a major discount. He only charged us $150 for all the pictures, instead of his usual $400.00 fee."
"That's great Kurt. The girls are going to be so happy." Andy said as he straightened his Kurtet in front of the full-length mirror. Andy moved to sit on the chair and put on his shoes while Kurt adjusted his tie and Kurtet in front of the mirror. Within a few minutes, they were ready to go to the church. Kurt locked the door and they left in his Nova, which he had washed and waxed early that morning after feeding the horses. They drove to the church and parked in the parking lot across the street, then went inside. Only a few guests were there so far, and the minister told Kurt and Andy that the brides were in the Bride's Room, getting ready. They went to the Groom's Room and sat on the sofa there.
Kurt looked around the room and saw an envelope sitting on the table by the fireplace. The envelope had his name on it. There was an envelope there for Andy too. "Andy, this envelope has your name on it. It looks like Joanie's handwriting." Kurt said as he carried the envelopes to the sofa and sat down, handing Andy the envelope addressed to him. They opened the envelopes and removed folded sheets of paper. They were notes from Jessica and Joanie. The note to Kurt from Jessica read: "My dearest love, I am so happy to become your wife today. I never thought I'd find a man as loving and caring and understanding as you are. You are the absolute best thing that has ever happened to me, Kurt. I look forward to spending the rest of my life with you, having your children, and growing old with you. I will see you very soon, my love! Hugs & kisses! Love Always, Your soon-to-be wife, Jessica.
