Until their falling out, Father Pfleger had been extremely close to Obama, and had encouraged Obama’s belief in his God-given destiny. “When Barack was thinking of running for president,” Pfleger told me in an interview for this book, “I said to him: ‘If you really believe that God is calling you to do this, forget all the norms. But don’t forget that the only way this can happen is through God. If you believe God is calling you, do it. But don’t forget, if you get it, don’t forget it was God first, not people, who got you there.’ And Barack said to me, ‘Yes, Father, I really believe that my plan in life is to go and become president, and that God has called me to go now.’”

When Obama overruled Emanuel on healthcare, he told him: “I wasn’t sent here to do school uniforms.”
3
Michelle’s actual annual salary, between the university and serving on six boards of directors, including Walmart, approached $500,000.
4
Aware of Michelle’s expensive tastes, Oprah made a point of wearing her $117,000 Cartier Diabolo watch to the White House meeting with the first lady.
5
According to CNN, the White House’s efforts to ingratiate itself with the Arab world not have worked. Opinion polls indicate that the favorability rating of the United States in much of the Arab world is lower under President Obama than it was during the Bush administration.
6
Obama likes to boast that he has created more than 2 million jobs. But if he had matched Ronald Reagan’s record, 15.7 million Americans would have been put to work.
