She lifted her head from his shoulders.  “What are you talking about?”

Derek laughed.  “I knew you didn’t read the fine print!”

“Fine print?  What?”

“The adoption papers,” he said as he tucked her head back on his shoulder.  “In the fine print it said that not only are we now officially Emery’s parents, but that we promise to love each other forever and that you forgive me for being a grade-A jackass and that I promise to never let you down again.”

“Wait a minute…I didn’t see that.”

“Sweetheart, it’s too late.  You’re stuck with me.  The papers are already signed and filed.”

Kayleigh smiled against his chest.  She didn’t need to sign any papers; she knew that she was going to love him for the rest of her life no matter what it said in the fine print.
