Stormy

I stand outside by the SUV and listen to the guys talk.

“That’s some tripped out shit,” Diego says.

“Not to us. It is to you because you’ll fuck anything in a skirt,” Trent replies. Everybody laughs because we all know it’s the truth.

“Well I’m not like you and Miller. I don’t have to abduct a woman to get her in bed.”

“Different strokes,” Miller answers.

We all say our goodbyes and leave to the sight of Dr. Winslow escorting his newfound love with his arm around her. She gets in the car with the blanket that had been in her cage wrapped tightly around her body. She clutches the dirty teddy bear that was her companion for the last few weeks and leaves to start her new life in her new home with Dr. Winslow.

Miller drapes his arm over my shoulders and walks me to my side of the SUV. “Come on, baby girl, all’s well that ends well.”

I smile and give him a peck on his cheek. The awkwardness that I had been feeling since last night is now gone. I’m where I’m supposed to be…

Chapter One

Lozado

“Poke her with that stick, Bo.”

Bo jabs the girl in the cage and watches with interest as she screams and lunges at him, cursing. “Aww, she’s a wild one, ain’t she?”

Bo notices that her that hair is matted and her face is dirty but that, along with her behavior, only serves to make her look like a wild woman—just Bo’s type.

“You ought not be snooping around while a man is making a batch a moonshine, little girl.”

“Hey Bubba, we ought to be able to have some fun with this little ole gal.”

“What little ole gal?” my voice cuts through the air from behind my sons as I approach them.

The girl grabs the bars of the cage, looking out at me as if I am some hero, here to rescue her from my crazy sons. I got no intentions of rescuing nobody. She ain’t got no damn business poking around on my land and now she has seen too much. Moonshine is illegal. I don’t worry about the law in these parts because I am the fucking law. What goes on around here goes through me first. Point is… she needs to be punished for trespassin’ on my land. It’s evident the little ole gal ain’t from ‘round these parts. I almost want to chuckle because of the way she is looking at me. She’s eyeballin’ me like I’m the most beautiful man she has ever laid eyes on. The poor, little ole gal is smitten. I must be twenty-five years her senior; daddy issues is all I can figure. If I know anything, I know women. I make part of my living running strip clubs. Women are my business and I’m good at reading them. I always have had a knack for it. For some reason, they’re drawn to me like bees to honey and this girl is proving to be no different.

Beth

I stare out at the man who is standing in front of the cage I’ve been placed in. He is beautiful—a mixture of class and bayou ruggedness. He has long brown hair that is pulled back in a ponytail. His chocolate brown eyes seem almost hypnotic in their ability to draw me in and, right now, he has my undivided attention. I am mesmerized by this stranger and I have no idea why.

He is wearing a long, leather coat that is unbuttoned and showing his lean form, clad in blue jeans and a denim shirt, beneath it. His long hair is covered by a leather hat that looks more like it is from Austria than the swamplands of the bayou. On his feet, he wears tall, brown, leather riding boots that flow with the rest of his ensemble, bringing it all together with a fashion sense unique to him. He truly is beautiful and I am hopelessly smitten.

He looks down on me, towering over me and eyeing me with skepticism.

“How old are you, little girl?”

“Twenty-one,” I answer.

“Don’t you fucking lie to me, girl! You ain’t a damn day over eighteen.”

“No sir, I promise; I just look young. I always get carded.” I pull the ID out of my back pocket and hand it to him. I don’t want him thinking I’m lying and then leave me down here with his sons. He takes the ID and flicks his fingers over the corner as if he is making sure it isn’t fake. He puts it in his pocket and even though I find that to be odd, a part of me is relieved because I believe it means he’s going to keep me.

His sons, Bo and Bubba, snicker when he places it in his pocket and I wonder if they think he is going to give me to them. Their laughter stops when he cuts his eyes at them and the fear they have of him is evident in their expressions. The danger I am sensing in this man is not without warrant. I have lived my life growing up in the streets and though I may not be educated in the sense of schooling, I can read people quite well.

“Daddy, we didn’t do nuthin wrong. She was back here snooping around the still and we caught her. She is the one who should be in trouble, not us.”

I note that even though his sons are grown, they still speak to him as if they are children. I can’t help but wonder if the respect they have for him was gained through beatings. Regardless of how dangerous he is, I want to go with him.

Once Bo sees that he has his daddy’s attention, he asks, “Can we have her, Daddy?”

My heart sinks and before I have time to think or be afraid, I scream out to the only man who can save me from these two. “No… take me with you!”

Lozado looks at me again, his gaze piercing, and says, “Little girl, I’ll take you places that you have never been and you will never be able to return from.”

He bends down in front of the cage, glares at me, and hisses, “Ever!”

“I don’t care!” I cry out in desperation as I eye Bo and Bubba. “I’m begging you. I’m pleading with ya. I’ll do anything!”

He tilts his head as a smirk passes over his face. “Little girl, them is some might powerful words you’re using.”

“Daddy, we want her,” Bubba whines.

Lozado stares down his boys before he turns to me again and speaks, “You a virgin, little girl? Answer me! I asked you a damn question!” he barks out, not giving me the time to answer.

I hang my head, embarrassed and ashamed to still be a virgin at my age and answer, “Yes, Sir.” I don’t want him to not want me because I’ve never been with a boy. What if he thinks no boy has ever wanted me? I cringe as I think about losing my virginity to his sons.

“Unlock the cage, boy!”

Bo kicks at the dirt but doesn’t say anything as he obeys his daddy. Yeah… he is scared of him.

If I could hear what his sons are thinking, I would know they aren’t just scared of their daddy; they are terrified of him. By their way of thinking, no girl is worth a horse whip and in these parts, no man can wield a whip with the skill that Lozado possesses. I will find out soon enough that the man, who I am begging to take me, is a hard core sadist.

I run behind the man I believe has just rescued me to try and keep up with his long strides. After all, anything has to be better than staying with those mean ole boys that found me.
