Kayson broke the kiss and said, “Let’s get to the house before I have you on the hood of this car.” He put his hands on her waist and began moving her toward the car. KoKo giggled. “Oh wait! Let me grab my flats from the trunk. They walked to the trunk and opened it. Kayson grabbed a towel he kept in there because he had the feeling they weren’t going to make it to the house. KoKo took off her shoes and put on her Prada slide ons.

KoKo saw the towel in his hands then asked, “What’s that for?” She smiled from ear-to-ear.

“What you think?” he said with his wicked grin. Just as Kayson was closing the trunk, a car came up on the side of them and the window slowly rolled down. Kayson pulled KoKo behind him. She immediately tensed up and reached for her burner. Then they heard a voice from the passenger side ask, “You got the time?”

Kayson locked eyes with the stranger. He heard the click of the gun and then a blast, but not before he reached for his gun and let one off in the driver’s head causing the car to propel and crash into three cars before coming to a complete stop. The force of the shot caused Kayson to fall back and knock KoKo to the ground. When she was able to look at him, she saw blood dripping from his stomach and chest. KoKo quickly grabbed the towel from his hand and tried to apply pressure. Kayson passed her his gun and said, “Don’t let them surround you.”

She moved from under him, crawled three cars down, and looked under the cars to see if she could see any one moving. Just then, she saw the guy from the passenger seat stagger out and then the other one from the back seat. She cocked her gun and Kayson’s and held them firm, one in each hand. As both guys approached Kayson’s body, KoKo rose up and began shooting, dropping both of them with a head shot. She ran over to them and emptied on them then dropped her hands to her sides. Breathing hard and crying at the same time, she felt a burning sensation in her shoulder. Looking down, she realized she was bleeding.

She looked over at Kayson, who was still breathing. As the voices in the back of her got closer she headed to Kayson’s side, dropped to her knees, pulled his head on her lap and started to cry. “You’ll be okay, just hold on.” Turning to the bystanders she yelled, “Get him some fucking help!”

Kayson smiled. “I love you,” he said as he coughed up blood.

“Kayson, don’t do this to me. This shit don’t work without you.” She cried harder.

“It’s okay, baby. You . . . Always . . . Thought . . . You Were . . . The . . . boss . . . It’s all yours now,” he said as he began fading away.

“Noooooooo . . .” she yelled, watching him fade just as smooth out of her life as he had come in. She sat there rubbing his face. “Help is on the way, Kayson. Hold on, baby. Please hold on.” Rocking back and forth, she held him close.

Aldeen kneeled next to KoKo and tears came down his face. He put his hand over his heart and bowed his head. Wise came over with a gun in each hand, saw Kayson laid out, put his hands up to his head, and began pacing back and forth. “What the fuck! Oh man. No. No. No.”

Baseem stood there looking at what he called his savior bleeding to death. He grabbed his gun and went to each body filling them with bullets while everyone watched in fear.

KoKo held Kayson’s head and rubbed his hair. She looked down at her hand and her wedding ring was covered in blood. “Why Aldeen?” She looked at him with such helplessness and desperation.

Aldeen put his arm around her and noticed the blood on her shoulder was coming from her. Apparently, the bullet that went in Kayson’s chest tore through his heart and hit KoKo.

“KoKo, you bleeding,” he said like a concerned dad. KoKo looked down then back at Aldeen then began feeling dizzy. The next thing she saw was black.

Chapter 29

Vendetta

Nine Months Later…

For the next nine months, KoKo spent all of her time in Dubai, in the very house that she and Kayson had spent the best time of their life. She would put on his robe and sit in the big chair on the balcony overlooking the water and cry. She would even talk to him. “Kayson, what am I going to do without you?” she asked, wiping away the tears. “We were supposed to spend the rest of our lives together? How the fuck did we get caught slippin’?”

KoKo picked up her hot tea with a shot of gin. The maid entered the room. “Madam, would you like to see him now?”

“Yes,” KoKo answered. The maid walked over to KoKo and handed baby Quran to her. She took him into her arms, smelled his hair, and stared at him. He was beautiful, plenty of thick, curly, and wavy black hair, hazel eyes and a caramel skin tone, with cute little pink lips. Tears ran down KoKo’s face as she stared at this beautiful child, a perfect combination of her and Kayson. Now she had to raise this boy into a man without any help from his father. She had given Kayson a son that he would never get to hold or love.

“Your father would have fallen in love with you.” She smiled at him as he looked back at her. “Don’t worry, mommy will handle it. That nigga won’t breathe.” As tears ran down her face, she kissed him on both cheeks. “I just have to keep you safe. I'm a go after these muthafuckas and give them some medieval pain.” She held him and looked out over the water. KoKo had almost a year to plan and she was just about ready to put her plan into action.

****

Almost a year had passed and KoKo hadn’t set foot in New York since Kayson’s death. When she walked into the mansion, Kayson’s spirit haunted the place. She got chills. As she moved from one room to the next, she thought, Thank God the maids have been keeping the place in order.

When she got to the third floor, her stomach sank to her feet. As the last memories of her and Kayson playing around and getting dressed for the party replayed through her mind, she continued to walk through the room headed to the closet. She ran her hands across his clothes and smelled them to see if she could capture a small scent of him. Stepping back, she saw a hoodie he had folded up on his chair; she had instructed them to leave everything as it was. She picked it up, and sank her face deep into it and inhaled. There was still a very slight trace of his cologne. She sat in the chair trying to capture every bit of his essence. Tears fell down her face at a rapid pace. KoKo began to cry so hard and loud she began to lose her breath. She grabbed at her chest and ran to the bathroom. Coughing and gasping for air. Turning on the sink, she tried to get some water in her mouth with her hands and doused it on her face. With her hands resting on the sink, she took deep breaths and stood there for a minute. She decided that moment that all the love, passion, and admiration she had for Kayson she would turn into revenge.

Once she got herself together. She walked into her room and got out her street gear. It was time for a bitch to go on the hunt. It had been a year and no one was coming up with any info on who killed Kayson. She hopped in the shower and then got dressed. Koko went into Kayson’s closet and placed his shirt in a bag to preserve any scent left. Then she hit the button to open the secret compartment, which held the guns. She grabbed midnight, loaded it, and tucked it away.

As KoKo got on the elevator, a strong feeling of anger came over her; she embraced it. She needed no feelings for anyone right now. Even the love for her newborn son had to be disregarded so she could move like she needed to. Everyone was her enemy until she could prove otherwise. When she got to the garage she hopped in Kayson’s truck, hit # 3 on the CD changer to his favorite track India Arie, “I am ready for Love.”

“Okay baby, let’s go get these muthafuckas.”

Koko pulled off and grabbed the prepaid out of her pocket and hit Aldeen and Wise. She instructed them to meet her at the spot. Both of them were surprised she was there because they didn’t know she was coming and was concerned with where her head was. Since she had only been counseling them over the phone, she would be brief and demanding about what she needed them to do. They were also feeling a bit ashamed that they didn’t have any info on who killed their boss and best friend. Baseem, on the other hand, went on a rampage and hit everything moving. If he thought they had anything to do with Kayson’s murder, they died, no questions asked. Baseem was now serving a ten-year sentence for possession of a firearm. KoKo was keeping his commissary stacked. He was jailhouse royalty and with his loyalty to Kayson, he had earned her support.

When KoKo arrived, they were already there. She scoped the place out. Her first question was, “Why the fuck these niggas ain’t out here to meet me? They slippin’.”

Taking tracking monitors out the glove compartment, she then hopped out and pulled her gun just in case. Moving to each of their cars along with the cars next to theirs, she planted one next to the tire. Glimpsing, she saw a black Range Rover approaching her with tinted windows she stood up. It pulled next to her car. The figure emerged from the driver’s seat. It was the Black Night, her bodyguard in Dubai. He had been Kayson’s trusted confidant for the last fifteen years. Because he did not trust too many people, he always kept his major connections a secret. Because of how Kayson moved, knowing everything and only sharing what was necessary, she was moving the same way. Everybody was suspect until she found out what was going on. The 6'5”, 255-pound all-muscle, baldheaded, black as hell with pretty white teeth figure approached her then he hugged her tight.

“You a’ight?”

“I'm good. I’m on the prowl and a nigga getting ready to know that if I ever barked before, the bite this time around will definitely be terror based.”

“Let's do this, sis,” Night said and moved next to her toward the spot.

KoKo did the special knock and the door opened. Troy, the doorman stood guard.

“KoKo. Damn girl, it’s good to see you,” he said with surprise in his voice.

“Is that right? Well, don’t get all celebration on me yet, because a lot of folks are getting ready to wish I was never born.” She and Night moved passed him and Night gave Troy the screw face. Troy was uneasy, he didn’t know this nigga or why he was here. What the fuck was KoKo doing?

KoKo walked in the room with this big black nigga right behind her. Aldeen and Wise tensed up. She walked over to Al and he hugged her, then she moved over to Wise and he gave her the same greeting. “Damn KoKo, you look good. I'm glad to see you.”

“Is that right?” KoKo saw that all the men were staring at each other with intensity so she made the introduction. “This is Night. He was Kayson's personal confidant and has been taking very good care of me for the last year per Kayson’s instructions.”

Aldeen reluctantly put his fist out in an attempt to give him some dap. Night looked at him like he was dirt.

“I don’t shake hands with niggas I don’t know unless its business, and right now I'm here on a personal matter and until I find out that your business has nothing to do with my personal endeavor, we ain’t shaking no fucking hands.”

Aldeen’s face was real screwed fast. “Excuse me?” Night didn’t blink and neither did Aldeen. In fact, it was getting ready to turn into the Wild Wild West up in there.

“Look. Y’all can measure your dicks later. Night is my right hand man now. Aldeen, we’re restructuring. You and Wise are no longer needed for the front line. Several niggas downstairs will be up here in a minute. Debrief them. I'll meet y’all at the mansion later. I want a full report,” KoKo said as she turned and walked away.

Night picked up his phone and called down to the squad. “Y’all come up.”

Within minutes, seven of the scariest dudes you ever want to see were upstairs, black as hell with bald heads all standing around six feet tall, two hundred pounds with the look of death in their eyes and the heart to match. “This is Aldeen and Wise, is it?” He looked at Aldeen for confirmation but he didn’t say shit. “They are going to bring y’all up to speed. KoKo gave y’all the instructions. See y’all later.” Night turned and moved out just as KoKo did. All the men were giving each other the stare down. After a few minutes of that, they settled shit, but Aldeen kept a mental note that he and KoKo was having it the fuck out over this shit.

Outside KoKo said to Night, “Something ain’t right.”

“We getting ready to find out. And if any of them nigga's dirty, KoKo, I'm killing ’em.”

“Do what you got to do.” She jumped in Kayson's truck and pulled off. Night jumped in his ride and started his headhunt.

KoKo began to move in the streets. She would pull up blocks away and walk in so she could observe. When she rolled up on Lenox, she immediately got heated. Niggas were socializing, being loud, and bitches were posted up laughing and playing. She put on her leather gloves, took the safety off her guns then put on the ‘fuck it’ attitude and started to walk up the block. When she got close this kid named Kaleef, who ran the block looked down the street and saw KoKo coming. The look on his face was like he saw a ghost. He knew it was KoKo because that walk was unmistakable. He tapped Jerome on the shoulder and his once smile turned into a scared frown immediately. Just then KoKo got close enough to hear him say, “Oh shit.”
