Gretchen looked down at her nails, not
liking the idea of having to hurt Tanek; he was a friend and her

“Okay, I’ll tell him tomorrow. Um, do you need to feed, you know

I can wait a few more days

Chapter 19

“
Are you okay?” Gretchen
asked as Adrian picked himself off the ground, so surprised at her
announcement he’d fallen off his chair. She giggled as she watched
him stand back up.

Did I surprise
you?”

that. I mean, I was hoping you would, you know, eventually. This is
so soon. Are you sure you’re ready? This is a big deal in the human
world.”

I’ve realized I’ve been
holding onto this for the right person, the perfect situation that

Gretchen, this makes me so
happy, but do you really know what you are offering?” Adrian asked
with delight in his eyes.

Tanek and I had feelings for him but it pales to what I feel when

At that moment a waitress came and took
their order; everything was vegetarian, as most Fae ate almost no
meat. Gretchen ordered the flower soup. It was something she was
familiar with since Cam had made it. Adrian ordered a rice and
vegetable stir-fry; he also ordered two Fae drinks Gretchen wanted
to try.

I want to know more about
my heritage. How am I part Fae?”

“
I can’t tell you that, all
I know is it’s in you, Fae live thousands of years. Whoever you are
related to is probably still alive. It could have been a distant
relative or it could have been more recent. I suggest talking with
your mother and grandmother. Did they ever exhibit any Fae
traits?”

“
Well when I was a kitten I
remember my mom talking to herself. It was like she was talking to
the air, and she would be staring at things but there wasn’t
anything there. Could this be something?”

Sounds like traits of a
spirit seer. Talk to your mom I bet she knows more than you think.

Thank you Adrian, you’ve
told me more than I knew before.” At that moment the food arrived
and they both began eating. “I like this soup. It’s a little
different from the one Cam makes.”

“
So she made you some Fae
dishes?”

“
Just the soup. She mostly
eats whatever I have on hand.” Gretchen took a drink from the
bright green drink and her eyes widened; it was smooth, tasted
minty, and fruity but nothing like she had ever had before. “This
is delicious, what is this drink?”

“
It’s imported from the
other realm. A mixture of plants and fruit fermented into an
alcohol. This one is called the
Green
Giant
.”

“
Well this is excellent;
I’m not much of a drinker, but damn.” Gretchen quickly gulped down
her drink and ordered another when the waitress came by to take the
empty plates. On the other side of the room there was a dance floor
with Fae of all kinds swaying and dancing.

Adrian held his hand up to Gretchen. She
took it and he led her to the dance floor. It was a smooth stone
surface with a waterfall feature along the wall, giving it a
natural feel. The rest of the room had plants and vegetation
everywhere. It almost felt like being outside in the forest.

“
I’ve never been dancing
before,” she said, nervously.

“
The Fae don’t dance. We
sway musically; anyone can do it.” As he took her into his arms, he
said “Lean into me.”

She did as he asked, leaning on him,
snuggling and enjoying his warmth and the scent that was all man. A
slight moan escaped her lips as she settled into his muscular
chest. He swayed with her to the music; she looked up at him and
saw the serenity on his face. He was so handsome and everything she

years old.” He stated as if it was the most normal thing to say.
Gretchen’s mouth dropped open at that declaration. She couldn’t
comprehend the thought that he was that old. He brushed her cheek
with the back of his hand. “It’s okay, let’s go for a
run.”

Gretchen changed to cat form and started to
run in the unknown forest. She looked to her side and saw Adrian
running alongside her. She loved that he could keep up without much
effort; they ran what seemed like forever until she was exhausted
and stopped, collapsing under a tree. She changed back to her human
form and snuggled up to Adrian.

“
Thank you, this was the
most fun ever.”

“
Believe me, it was fun for
me too.” He looked down at Gretchen and captured her lips with his.
He kissed her deeply and desperately. She kissed him back just as

here?” Gretchen asked nervously, looking back between Tanek and
Adrian.

Some of the Fae work for
me. They know you are mine,” Tanek replied coldly.

I am certainly not yours,
I belong to no one.”

“
I cannot believe you would
choose this nobody over me. I could give you everything you ever
wanted, including immortality,” he said angrily. Gretchen could see
that his fangs were extended making him look even
fiercer.

Gretchen was stunned. She had enjoyed her
time with Tanek but she had no idea he felt so strongly for her.
Adrian didn’t seem to react at all, which was probably a good
thing.

“
Tanek, I was going to
speak with you in a more private setting but since you insist on
stalking me I need to tell you, I’m breaking up with you. I want to
be with Adrian and only Adrian.” She could see the fury build up in
him, it frightened her, and she didn’t want Adrian to get hurt.
Finally Adrian spoke in a more than calm voice.

“
Vampire, I am four hundred
years old, I can sense you are about two hundred maybe three at the
most. You know you cannot defeat me. Walk away while you still
can.”

“
This is not over,
enforcer.” And then Tanek was gone with vampire speed.

Chapter 20

Adrian led Gretchen into his small
apartment; he still felt like he should just take her home but she
insisted that Tanek would not ruin their plans. She looked around
at his small apartment and smiled as she took in everything around
her.

“
So the big bad enforcer
lives in a tiny apartment.”

“
I don’t need much, and my
job takes me out of town often enough that it seems silly to have a
big place.”

“
She stopped and looked at
the glass in the living room. This is beautiful.”

“
It’s the Fae communication
portal, we all have one.”

“
My grandmother sent me one
after I moved. How does it work?”

“
You just concentrate on
the person you want to contact and it finds them.”

“
Can you show
me?”

“
Maybe some other time.

Adrian led her by the hand further into the
room; instead of stopping at the couch he kept going, leading her
to his bedroom. As she followed him inside her cheeks turned red as
she imagined what she wanted to do to him at that moment.
