“What did you do?”

“I was stunned, I wanted her to yell, scream, apologize, do or say something but she didn't say a word and neither did I. I got up, got in my car and drove home.”

“She came home at about midnight, to find her bags packed and placed outside the door. She didn't knock or attempt to make any contact with me at all; she simply co
llected her bags and waited outside. I watched as she made a call, he came and got her and that was the last I've seen or heard from her. I threw myself into my work, finished out my lease in my apartment, packed up and came back here the very next year.”

“Mitch honey I'm so sorry she hurt you like that, you know she didn’t deserve you though. She used you and that's something that stings no matter how much time goes by. Thank you so much for telling me your story, it helps me learn more about you.”

“Danielle it was ages ago and yes it hurt, but you know what? I got over it. Yes I was scarred, but when I got back here, I'm ashamed to say that I began to disregard people’s feelings much like my own had been disregarded. I never allowed anyone to get close to me; I shut that part of my heart off.

I didn't care about anyone, not even myself.
And the women that I did date were purely for…well you know physical reasons.  But please don’t think ill of me, I'm not that person anymore. It took a lot of time for me to realize that you get what you give and when I got back here, instead of taking time for me and my life, I just tried filling the void. I was going out every night, drinking with my friends, picking up women, lying to them to get what I wanted."

“Oh Mitch
,” she frowned.

“I know Danielle, I know. It took my parents to finally sit me down and tell me that all my running around was not going to make me feel better. I had to take time for myself, give myself time to heal, so I did just that. I took time off wo
rk, went to our family's summer place up in Maine and stayed there by myself for about three weeks.

It was the longest three weeks that I’ve ever experienced. At first I thought to myself, you’re crazy, there's no way you can do this for three weeks. But
I did, I read a lot of books, cooked for myself, took a lot of walks. I took time to think and I rested. And I'll tell you Danielle I came back a whole new person. But I realized that It wasn’t a new me, I was back to my old self; I was Mitchell Conway pre New York City. And now talking with you I realize that if those events hadn't happened, I would have never met you, so I am a firm believer in "Everything happens for a reason.”

“Mitch I am so proud of you, and you should be proud of yourself too. You did
what you needed to do to get through it and you came out all the better. There are not a lot of people who would have done that.”

“Danielle, thank you for telling me that,” he smiled appreciatively.

She smiled warmly. “I like that we feel comfortable enough to tell each other all about ourselves so early on.”

“So do I Danielle and now it’s your turn. I want to know everything about you,” he said gazing into her eyes.

“And you shall, but right now you’ve got to get me to work,” she grinned.

“Mitch thank you again for a lovely breakfast."

“Your very welcome Danielle and I think you should do me the honor of letting me take you out to dinner tonight. I took over the spotlight during breakfast, tonight will be your night to shine," he winked and kissed her softly on the lips.

“You mister, have got yourself a date."

“Great, come on I'll drop you at work and I need to pick up my order.”

"Luan right?"

“Yes, how did you know? Oh that’s right; you do all the order requests. Dating you is going to be good for me and my business,” he teased and pulled her into his arms and kissed her again.

Chapter Six

Joe and Vic watched as Mitch's truck pulled into the rear parking lot, the lot that was used for larger deliveries and pick-ups. “Well, look at that,” Victoria exclaimed.

“What?”

“Looks like Mitch is in love.”

“Huh? Woman stop being nosy and get back in here.”

“Not on your sweet life Joe,” Victoria smirked.

“Well good morning you two, I take it you had a pleasant weekend?” Smiling at the both of th
em, Vic said, “And there’s no need to thank me guys, an invite to the wedding will be enough.”

“Vic!” Both Danielle and Joe yelped, embarrassed by her remark.

“What? I'm just stating the obvious.”

“You'll have to excuse her,” said Joe, “She hasn't had her
second cup of coffee yet.”

“No worries,” said Mitch. “That doesn't bother me at all,” he grinned at Danielle.

He is just too good to be true
, she thought to herself.
I want him and I want all of him. Is it me or does he look incredibly sexy in that white tee shirt, baggy jeans and those construction boots? His arms are so toned, and strong. Not to mention his hair, he's letting it grow out and all I want to do is run my fingers through it! His eyes turn even greener when I look at him in the sunlight. Oh I've gotta stop, gotta concentrate. I'm at work
, she thought to herself.

“Joe, Vic, the weekend was great because I spent some of it with my friends, but there was an uninvited, unfortunate thing that happened this weekend.”

Seeing the seriousness in her eyes Vic said, “Oh honey what happened?”

Closing the office door, Mitch sat them down and both he and Danielle explained what one of their so called loyal customers was up to. Once they finished, Vic let out a gasp. “That lousy piece of shit!” All heads tu
rned towards her.

“Vic?"

“I know, I know. I never curse but that’s ridiculous, my god Danielle. And to think we invited him into our home Joe,” Victoria said, upset now. Joe gently put his hands on her shoulders and gave his wife a reassuring squeeze. “And the police can't do anything?” He asked.

“Nope not until he's pretty much caught in the act.

“Well I’ll tell you one thing,” said Joe.

“Sometimes you gotta take the law into your own hands, right Mitch? I mean hun
ting season is coming up and lots of people have accidents.”

“You might be on to something there Joe,” Mitch nodded his head in agreement.

“Now stop it, the both of you. Stop this foolishness,” Danielle whimpered. “You’re scaring me and it's not going to come to that.”

"Joseph Johnson, you stop with that non- sense right now. Am I going to have to run home and change the combination on the gun safe? You’re upsetting Danielle and she's got enough on her plate right now, she doesn't need all this gun talk! An
d you Mitchell Conway, should not be agreeing with him,” Victoria scolded both men.

Mitch tried hard to hide the smirk on his face. “Yes ma'am.”

“Danielle honey, do you want to take some time off? You've certainly earned it and Joe and I can handle the books.”

“No, no Vic thanks but no. Believe it or not I need to be with you guys. I feel safer here and to be honest I don’t want to go home, not after I found out that he's been watching my house."

“Oh honey of course you don’t. Well you can stay with me and Joe as long as you want; we have the cottage in the back by the pool. It's empty, and it's yours if you want it.”

“Thanks Vic let me think about it okay?”

“Fair enough honey, you let us know if there’s anything we can do."

Taking her hand Joe said, “Daniel
le, you know you’re like a daughter to us, and we love you. We love this store too and know this, if that son of a bitch comes in here, I cannot be responsible for what I might do.”

“Joe, let’s hope that he stays away from the store and me, and thank you s
o much for your support. You guys are the best,” she said, hugging him.

Once Vic and Joe left the back office Mitch went over to Danielle and pulled her in his arms. “Mitch I feel so safe when I'm with you, will you stay at my place tonight? I know I
shouldn’t even be asking this soon but I'm not ashamed to say that I'm scared and things just feel so right when I'm with you.”

“Danielle of course I will stay with you.”

“Thank you, and since you are going to be staying over, instead of going out, how about I cook dinner for us?"

“You don’t have to babe.”

“Mitch nothing would please me more than to cook dinner for you. Besides, I've always dreamed of being able to put my stove to good use.”

“Well in that case I don’t want to be the one to stand in front of your
dreams.”

“One thing, we'll need to stop at the grocery store because I have absolutely nothing to cook!” She said as they both started to laugh.

“Sure thing Danielle, sure thing.”

“Now, you’ve gotta get your luan and I need to get to work handsome.”

“Yes I guess you’re right, I’ll be by later to pick you up okay? You need me Danielle, you call me you understand? You need anything at all, you call.”

“There is something I need right now,” she said, her eyes smoldering.”

“And what's that?” He asked, moving closer.

“This.”

As she ran her hands up his chest, she wrapped them around his neck and pulled him close to her. Opening her mouth, she let her tongue explore him. Moans escaped them both as their kissing forced Danielle up against the office wall.

Her hands moved up and down his back as she felt his throbbing cock press up against her thigh.

"Danielle,” he said with a throaty growl. “You’ve got me so worked up.”

“Hmm-mm,” was all that Danielle could whisper as she was in total lust for him.

“Babe if you don’t stop this, I'm gonna take you right here on that desk and make love to you.”

“That sounds fine with me,” she said nibbling on his bottom lip.

“That feels so good, but you’ve gotta stop, you’re driving me crazy,” he said with a restrained moan.

“I know, I know. Okay,” she said smoothing out her blouse and grinning when she glanced at what was quite obvious between his legs. “Yeah, see what you do to me? I gotta get to work.” With a quick kiss on the cheek, Mitch walked outside to the lumber ya
rd to pick up his order. God I want him so bad, she thought as she leaned against the open door gazing at the nice view of her man walking back to his truck.

By the time Danielle looked up at the clock it was one thirty.
Wow, I got a lot done,
considering
, she thought to herself. And it was all the better especially when she'd asked Vic if Ethan had come by and she told her no. Good, maybe last night was really the end of it, surely he'd realize how sick and twisted he'd acted and will give up. Maybe he'll move away. Yeah right, I wish, she thought to herself. I wish. Let me give Shay a call and see when she's coming in.

After hanging up the phone, Danielle was excited to see her best friend, she loved her. They had been inseparable, even after Shay began
dating Jason. “I think he's gonna propose soon,” Shay had told Danielle during one of their late night gossip sessions.

“Oh Shay I'm so happy for you!" Danielle had exclaimed.

“Thanks, now all we have to do is find a man for you to fall in love with and all will be right with the world.”

“Yeah, easier said than done Shay, easier said than done.”

Of course I never thought it would happen to me, thought Danielle. And yet here I am, falling in love with my dream guy, who would have thought? She couldn’t help but smile for the rest of the day.

I won't go into that store for a while
, thought Ethan.
I’ll punish her a bit longer. I know she is wondering where I am and why I haven’t come in to take her out to lunch, but after her shenanigans last night she needs to be taught a lesson.  No, I'll wait for her to go do her bank deposits then I'll be able to see her, see how much pain she is in from not being able to see me. I bet she'll never act like a whore again.

Chapter Seven

Working for a couple more hours till Shay arrived, Danielle managed to get all of the inventory input into the new computer system that Vic and Joe had asked her to learn. It was quite easy as she had read up on it online a few weeks prior and had stayed late some nights to play with the new system.

The hard part would be trying to teach Vic and Joe the system because they didn't take too kindly to new things. That being a total understatement, Joe and Vic still believed a person’s word was good enough for credit and for them it was true,
not one of their customers had ever skipped out on paying their bill.

I guess that’s why they have one of the best general/lumber stores around, she thought to herself.
It also helped that it was the only one of its kind in the small town of St. Johnsbury Vermont. They had their share of competition with super Wal-Mart being only twenty minutes away, but people always came back to Joe and Vic’s time and time again.

Most of the locals said that other than the large bulk items they can get at super stores;
they'd rather get the personalized service from Vic and Joe’s general store. They liked that when you came into the store you were usually greeted by name. And if you weren’t, it was only because one of the employees was new and was still too shy to ask.

But it didn't last long, Joe and Vic made a point to remind each employee that knowing the customer’s name is what keeps them in business and so far they were right. They’ve been in business for over fifty years, Vic having inherited the store when her fa
ther passed away.

“Danielle, you can fore go the bank deposit today, Joe has to go out that way so he can make the deposit.”

“You sure Vic, I can go right now if you need me to.”

“No honey we don’t want you going out alone today, not with that maniac out
there somewhere.”

“Okay, Vic if you’re sure.”

“Yes honey like I said he's going in that direction. Oh hey Shayla. Danielle, Shayla's here. Go on back Shayla.”

“Hey girl what’s up? Everything quiet today? No news on psycho right?”

“Nope. It's been a productive day actually, well once Mitch left anyway.”

“Ooh sounds good, do tell.”

Danielle sounded excited. “Oh nothing, we just had a hot and heavy make out session this morning right here in the office.”

“Nice Dee, did he clear off
your desk?” Shayla said jokingly.

“No, we both cooled down and he left for work. Shay it was nice though, I thought I had lost my desire but oh no, he's totally bringing it out of me.”

“Well good that’s what supposed to happen Danielle.”

“I know. I'm just
so surprised at how quickly the feelings appeared.”

“Well you know Dee, for some people it takes months, years even to fall in love and for others, it only takes a look or a glance and they know. Everyone’s different, so stop doubting it and go with it.”

“Your right Shay. I'm a little nervous about tonight though.”

“Don’t be, just relax. Go with the flow, you’re a great cook; just treat it like a normal everyday thing. Although I think if you burned up all the food in your kitchen Mitch would still eat ev
ery bit of it because it was burnt by you,” Shayla joked.

“I’ll remember that and let you know if that happens, and it just might, especially if he kisses me the way he does,” Danielle grinned.

She sent the old man to do the bank deposit huh? Staying in
side to talk with her stupid silly friend Shayla no doubt. I'm going to have to teach her a lesson as well; no one is going to keep her away from me.  It's time for Shayla to disappear; it's time for her to have some kind of accident. Don’t worry Danielle; I'm going to get all the people who are standing in our way of being together out of the picture once and for all. You leave it to me, we'll be together sooner rather than later, especially once Shayla is gone. Once she is gone, the boyfriend will go too.
Then all that will be standing in the way will be that Neanderthal and he's no match for me. I'll save him for last because I want him to suffer the most
. Ethan put his car in reverse, backed out of the hidden driveway he was parked in and drove away, he had a plan to carry out, an awful plan.

Mitch showed up promptly at six pm to collect Danielle. “Hey babe, how was your day?”

“It was actually very nice thank you, no surprises. How was yours?”

“Well if you don’t count the fact that I thought about kissing
you all day, it was great. But boy did my guys give me grief.”

“Oh?” Danielle started laughing. “I bet they did.”

“You have no idea. It's been so long since they’ve seen me acting so cheerful, they knew something was up. They know the dazed look that all us guys get when we’re falling in love.”

Upon hearing that, Danielle was taken by surprise. “Oh falling in love huh?”

“Yes Danielle,” he said with a hopeful glance.

“I know how you feel," she said with a smile.”

A half hour later, with Mitch pushing the grocery cart and Danielle filling it, things felt so natural between them. It was as if they'd been doing this for a very long time. “What would you like to eat tonight Mitch?”

Mitch, with his eyes full of lust said, “I could think of a couple things I’d li
ke to eat Danielle. Food only being one of them.”

“Mitch,” she whispered. And looking around said, “People might hear.”

“So? They shouldn’t be listening.”

“Your right babe.”

“Anything you cook will be fine Danielle, anything at all.”

“I think I've got enough let's head back to my place,” she said while giving him a kiss.

Before he even backed out of the driveway where he was hiding, Ethan had come up with a plan to once again show Danielle that he meant business and that he could get to her anytime he wanted. And as he drove towards her house he planned to do just that, go inside her house and get to her, not physically. No, not yet, but emotionally. Knowing that she would be still working, Ethan arrived at her house at around five pm.

Even though the weather was unseasonably warm and humid for the month of May, no one in the neighborhood was out. Everyone stays in on humid days, thought Ethan; they all stay in their air conditioned homes.
A/c is good, it blocks out lots of exterior noises,
he thought to himself as he broke out one of the small tile windows of Danielle's back door. Reaching in through the broken window, Ethan easily reached the lock and let himself in.

Pausing only for a moment in the kitchen, he immediately made his wa
y upstairs. I want to see where she sleeps, he thought to himself. Entering the guest bedroom he felt disappointed as there were no personal items of Danielle’s. Realizing his mistake he entered the bedroom at the end of the hall.  The moment he entered he immediately got an erection as he gazed upon her bed. “This will be one of the places where I'll have you,” he said aloud.

Paying close attention to the time, he rummaged through her dresser draws, touching and caressing the fabric of her intimates and s
topping only to hold them up to his nostrils.  “Your scent is intoxicating Danielle.” As he lay down on the bed, he caressed, and inhaled the scent of one of her pillows. The thought of pleasuring himself there on the bed was intriguing to him but he thought better as he didn't want to leave his seed on her bed. He knew that leaving something like that on her bed would make Danielle want him even more but the one he was worried about was Mitch. Just in case he tried to have him arrested.
No, not yet
, he thought to himself. I’ll just take a few things that'll let her know I was here.

Unable to find her clothes hamper he took several pairs of Danielle panties and bra's and shoving them in his pants, touched her bed pillow once again, and walked out into the ha
llway, down the stairs and out the back door.

While loading the groceries into the back of Mitch's truck, Danielle couldn't help but smile at the thought of falling in love with Mitch.
Having him in my life is going to be a very good thing,
she thought to herself.

“What ya thinking about babe, you okay?”

“Oh yes, I'm more than okay Mitch, I'm perfectly fine.

“Yes you are Danielle.”

“Well thank you for saying so handsome, now get me home so I can start dinner.”

“Yes ma'am, right after I do this.”

He slowly eased her against the passenger side door of his truck, laid his hands on either side of her and kissed her so passionately, that she was instantly aroused.

“Or we could skip dinner and have dessert first,” she said breathlessly.

“Now you’re talking Danielle, let’s go.”

While Mitch was driving back to her place, she wondered if she could please a man like Mitch sexually. For Danielle, celibacy was something she had grown quite familiar with and she hoped that she would be able to please him in every way
. She had no doubt that he would please her as well. She had never found herself so attracted to a man as she was to Mitch.

Am I wearing decent panties
? She thought.
Geez I don’t think I'm wearing a matching bra. Goddamnit, I knew I should have worn that sexy lingerie that I bought when Shay and I went shopping!
Her thoughts were running wild by the time they pulled into her driveway.

“Here, I’ll get the bags, you go inside babe.”

When she fished for her keys in her purse, a strange feeling came over her.
The door is locked but why do I have this funny feeling? Must be my nerves,
she thought as she brushed the feeling aside. She unlocked the door and went inside.  After setting her purse down on the table she returned to help Mitch with the bags.  “Honey it's okay, I got this.”

“Alright, I'll start unpacking the groceries.”

When she entered the kitchen and saw the broken glass on the floor, Danielle shouted for Mitch.  Within seconds he was beside her. Seeing the broken window Mitch immediately grabbed Danielle and brought her outside. “I want you to get in the truck, lock the door and do not get out for any reason you hear me?”

“But Mitch I’d rather stay...” cutting her off in mid- sentence he said, “Danielle you get in the truck and get in there now!” He i
nsisted.

Danielle did as Mitch asked and watched him run back into the house. As he did, she called the police from his cell. “911 what is your emergency?”

“Yes, I think someone has broken into my house and my boyfriend just went back inside, send help please! My address is 145 Gilberton Street, please hurry!”

“Help is on the way ma'am.”

Danielle was shivering by the time the squad car arrived and met Mitch in the driveway. She wanted him to hold her and tell her that everything was going to be alright again, like he did only moments before, but she knew he couldn't because he was talking to police. He was telling them that he checked the house and that whoever broke in had come and gone and there was no sign of him. It was what Danielle knew the police were going to ask her to do that made her shiver.

They were going to ask her to go through the house and tell them what was missing, just the thought of walking through the house made her sick to her stomach. She had loved the house she lived in; made it her
home and now he broke in. He broke in and broke up her sanctuary, made it cold.

“Danielle babe, the police need you to go inside and look around, they need to know what, if anything is missing.”

“Mitch, can you please come with me? I don’t want to go in there by myself,” she said as she reached for his hand.

“Of course.”

“Hey wait those are our friends, that’s my best friend don’t tell me I can't go to her!” Shayla shouted at the police officer who tried to restrain her.  After Mitch gave him a nod, he let Jason and Shayla through. Running and almost knocking her over, Shayla hugged Danielle hard.

“Oh my god Danielle what the hell happened?”

“He broke in Shay, he broke into my house.” Just saying it made her break down in tears.

“And now I've got to go s
ee what is missing, I don’t think I want to live here anymore!” She sobbed even more. Mitch taking her in his arms consoled her.  “Babe, let's get this over with and go inside. I'm with you Danielle, I am right here with you.”

After Jason and Shayla promi
sed not to leave, Danielle and Mitch entered the house.

Once she carefully noted that besides the broken window, there was nothing amiss downstairs, they headed upstairs with the officer. Starting with the guest room, her hopes began to rise once she saw t
hat there too, nothing was amiss.
Maybe it wasn't him after all
, she thought to herself.  She hated the thought of anyone breaking into her home but oddly enough, she’d rather it be a complete stranger or some kids playing a prank. Anyone besides Ethan.
