"Trinity, I never really started living until you showed up in my life. A lifetime for a vampire can mean an eternity and now that I've found you I know I couldn t exist for an eternity unless I had you with me to share it." Travis kissed the palm of the hand which bore the diamond ring. "Will you spend the rest of forever with me, as my wife?"

Trinity flung herself into his arms burying her face into his neck and sobbing. Through her sobs she murmured "yes" repeatedly.

Nigel brought his attention back to Lacey just in time to see her wipe a single tear from her eye with the back of her hand. He didn't expect to see Travis propose to Trinity here, tonight. He could have sworn Travis had some extravagant thing worked out for the proposal. Nigel was deeply thankful to Travis for choosing tonight to propose, especially doing it in front of Lacey. He was certain that Lacey watching the emotions between the couple would do something for his cause that would have taken him perhaps months to achieve alone.

They showed Lacey that despite Travis being a vampire, he still maintained his humanity, and that when it comes to love it doesn't matter if you re human or vampire.

All that matters is that you've found the one person in the world that makes you complete.

Chapter 10

The wheels in Lacey's head were spinning into overdrive by the time Nigel's four friends left them alone in his office. She'd been touched by Travis's proposal. A couple would normally have roughly fifty years together, if they were that lucky. With vampires, getting married meant devoting yourself to someone else not for decades, but for centuries! The concept was almost too overwhelming for her to consider.

Once the excitement of the proposal had died down, the group answered all her questions about being a vampire; what it meant, the myths versus the truth. They even briefly touched on the vampire politics. In the matter of a single day, she'd found out vampires existed, was almost killed by one, met a group of them and even witnessed a vampire proposal. She doubted many humans could claim that in a lifetime.

She could feel Nigel's eyes on her. She'd felt him watching her a number of times, during the evening. Several times she'd looked over her shoulder at him and they'd shared a smile. Lacey sighed and leaned back into him, still in wonder at the coolness of his body.

"Are you still frightened of me, of being here? Do you want me to take you home?"

Nigel finally asked.

Turning to position herself so she was facing him, Lacey looked up into his questioning eyes and for the hundredth time since she d met him a couple days ago she was amazed at just how beautiful he was. "I was never scared of you Nigel. I was scared of what happened. Confused," she finally admitted lowering her eyes to the floor.

Placing a finger under her chin, Nigel forced her eyes back up to meet his. "I want you to always feel safe here and secure around me. You can tell me anything. You know that, right?" he asked.

Lacey forced herself to smile as she nodded. "I know now."
What am I going to do
? She groaned inwardly. She had received a text message from her editor a little earlier in the evening telling her that the article was being published in Monday morning's paper.

Tomorrow morning. Her editor had been able to squeeze it in at the last minute. Lucky for her.

As much as she dreaded it, Lacey knew she needed to confess what she had done. He needed to hear from her before the story hit the newsstands in the morning. "Nigel I..."

"There is something else you need to know," Nigel cut in. "There is a reason why I prefer the dark when we're...intimate."

A coy smile touched Lacey's lips as she waited for his explanation.

"I assure you it's not because I'm bashful in any way."

Lacey's smile widened. Until she realized he was a vampire that thought had crossed her mind. Looking at him now, knowing what she currently knew she realized just how silly that idea had been.

"When a vampire's emotions are... heightened. Such as when we're readying ourselves for a fight, or about to feed... or... when we're sexually aroused, our fangs drop and eyes shift colour. As you witnessed this morning."

Boy, did she remember! When she d peered around the arm of the sofa catching his gleaming white eyes with hers, his clothing bloodied, his fangs visible she'd been shocked and would be lying if she didn't admit that it hadn't frightened her.

"It's nearly impossible for us to control. It just happens."

Now that she was more aware, and prepared to see his fang and white eyes she was certain she'd be able to get used to them. "So if I do this," Lacey began to slowly trail her hand up his inner thigh. Nigel closed his eyes as his breath caught in his throat. She could see his cock beginning to get an erection. Her hand began to stroke his growing cock from over the material of his pants. "Then eventually you'll lose control and transform?"

"Lacey," he moaned. Covering her hand on his cock with his own, he prevented her from continuing to stroke him. "In a manner of speaking, yes. We should go to the other room, where it's dark, if you think the change will frighten you."

With her free hand Lacey batted his hand off hers and began to undo his belt. "Show me. I would like to see." The article crossed her mind for another fleeting moment. She'd let them have tonight and deal with the consequences of what she had done tomorrow. If this was to be the last night she'd spend with Nigel then she wanted to make the most of it.

With his belt and pants undone, she gave them a tug pulling them down to his knees, along with his boxers to expose his thick, hardening shaft. She cupped his balls in her hand, gently massaging and caressing them as her tongue teased the slit at the head of his cock. She looked up at him, as her tongue frolicked up, over and around the head.

"Good god, Lacey," Nigel leaned back further into the sofa, his eyes closed, head back.

His fingers worked their way through her hair.

Lacey began to stroke the base of his shaft, giving it quick jerks as she continued to tease the head. Nigel's fingers tightened around her hair, as if he were trying to hold himself back.

"If you're fighting it Nigel, don't." Lacey ordered.

She was dying; being driven crazy, from wanting to feel his hands on her; wanting to feel his cool, hard body thrusting up against hers. But she tried to keep those desires buried for now, which was hard considering she could feel her lace panties beginning to dampen from her own excitement.

"Open your eyes Nigel," she commanded, certain by the sound of his soft moans as she stroked and licked him that he was coming very close to orgasm.

"Are you sure?" he whispered, his voice hoarse.

"Yes," she said, still teasing the sensitive head of his cock with her tongue. "Show me what I do to you." Lacey was somewhat timid of seeing his fangs and white eyes; a little concerned she may associate it with that morning s ordeal.

But she was wrong.

As he opened his eyes, she saw his deep grey eyes had turned pure white. He parted his lips to display two rather large, sharp looking fangs. Lacey stopped what she was doing for an instant, her eyes locked into his. There was a difference from earlier. While they looked the same as they had that morning there was one distinct difference. Instead of a savage hate burning beneath those eyes and in his expression, there was desire and affection.

"Does this bother you? How I look now?" he asked frowning, genuine concern in his tone.

Lacey crawled onto his lap, straddling his groin. "May I?" she asked pointing to his fangs.

Lacey could have sworn she noticed his face flush, but blinked and his face was back to the pale ivory it normally was. Was he embarrassed by the way he looked right now, in front of her? He was always so secure and confident, sometimes outright cocky. Granted she'd only known him a few days, but being a reporter she was quite good at sizing people up. She would never have guessed that behind that suave exterior was a man who had his own self-doubts to cope with.

"Human women very rarely see me like this," he admitted. Again, she could have sworn she noticed a faint flush rise up into his face, then disappear just as quickly.

"Then why are you showing me?" Lacey asked touching his cheek, bearing two day old stubble, with the palm of her hand.

Nigel gently pushed Lacey off his lap and stood, doing up his pants as he stood. Taking her hand he led her to the large glass window overlooking the club dance floor. It was Sunday night which was one of the very few nights they were closed. He stood behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist, placing his chin on the top of her head.

Lacey sighed, falling back into his embrace, loving the coolness of his body in contrast to her heat. She covered his hand with hers and waited patiently for him to speak.

"Do you know how old I am Lacey?" he asked. After a pause he continued. "Of course you don't. My apologies. I've lived for over a millennium."

"Oh my," To say she was shocked would have been an understatement. She was floored. It was almost beyond comprehension. The things he must have seen, and what he must have lived through. It amazed her. She looked up into his eyes, which had turned back to their usual deep grey colour.

Nigel smiled at her then placed a light kiss on her forehead. "It's true."

"Of my thousand and some odd years walking this earth, I've seen and done so many things. My life has been interesting to say the least. But there is one thing that I've been missing and it has taken me over a thousand years to realize how much I want and need this one thing in my life."

Lacey had an idea of where he was going with this, but was unclear as to what it had to do with her not seeing what he looked like when he turned. So she said nothing, just waited for him to continue.

"I'm lonely, Lacey. I need someone to share the rest of eternity with."

Lacey's body went stiff in his arms. Was he planning on turning her? She was still getting to know him; sure she was developing strong feelings towards him - and heaven only knew, the sex was beyond amazing - but to be turned and to live forever as a vampire? That she wasn't so sure about. Not yet anyhow.

"Nigel I..." she began, only to get cut off by the sound of a soft chuckling in her ear.

"Don't worry; I'm not planning on turning you if that's what you're afraid of."

"Well no... I... Well," she stammered embarrassed she'd jumped to that conclusion.

"Take Franny for instance. In my opinion she was born to be a vampire. That s most likely why she wanted to be turned pretty much straight away. But not everyone is like Franny. Not everyone is born with the desire to live forever. Or want to give up their humanity so easily. Trinity is one of those people. She and Travis love each other. If ever a couple was destined to be together it s be them, but she's not ready yet. She will be.

One day. Just not yet."

"Alright..."

"I'm developing feelings for you. Not just the strong physical attraction, but I've been around long enough to know when I ve met someone special. Someone that just might well be the person with whom I could spend an eternity. If you can accept me for what I am, then sometime in the future we could discuss... Well, the next step. But for now, I just want to be honest with you about who and what I am and all I ask is the same from you in return. I want to know everything about you, Lacey."

Lacey couldn't remember the last time she'd been so deeply moved by another person.

He was far more than a sexy, charming vampire. He was a man who was in desperate need of his other half to make himself whole. Lacey felt tears threatening to emerge, but fought them back. At that very moment she knew she wanted to be with him. Perhaps not as a vampire. Not yet anyway, but she wanted to learn every little detail about who he was, and who he had been over the centuries.

But there was one big problem. That problem was currently being printed onto hundreds of thousands of newspapers as she stood there, overlooking the club, enjoying the feel of his strong arms around her.

She had to tell him, "Nigel I..."

But then he was kissing her neck. And her resolve faded. Her resolve wasn't all that strong to begin with so the feel of his cool, soft lips tasting the sensitive flesh of her neck, seemed to drive her need to confess into the background of her mind.

"I think we've talked enough for now," he announced taking hold of her shoulders and twirling her around to face him, his lips claiming her lips roughly, with more passion than he'd ever kissed her before.

His hands seemed to be everywhere at once on her body; his fingers literally ripping her blouse open and pushing it off her shoulder and onto the floor. "I'll buy you a new one,"

he assured her. But she wasn't concerned about the shirt. The only thing she was concerned about was getting his clothing off as quickly as possible.

Clothing seemed to fly off of each of their bodies at a frenzied pace. In less than a minute they were both standing naked, in his well-lit office, their hands exploring every inch of each other s bodies. Lacey had thought he was magnificent before, but now seeing Nigel in a lighted room, she was left breathless. Lean muscle covered his body from head to toe, beautifully-defined and sculpted. His cock stood tall and proud, pressed against her stomach as they embraced.

Nigel pushed her naked body against the window, trapping her hands above her head.

His free hand dipped into her pussy, stroking her, ensuring she was nice and ready for him to thrust into her. His mouth left hers to move down her sizable breasts, his tongue and teeth licking and nipping at first one then the other.

Lacey's body bucked against his, her pussy demanding more than just his fingers. It was pure pleasure in combination with sweet agony. She pulled against his hands restraining hers above her head, wanting to run her hands over his strong chest. He held tight not allowing her the pleasure.

His cock teased her, hard and ready against her stomach. Why wouldn't he give her the pleasure of having it in her? "I want it
now
, Nigel," she demanded.
