Katelyn looked
Morgan
over
,
trying to decide what to believe
.
F
inally she smiled and nodded, “Thank you Morgan. Well, we’re off to make
the rounds. You two have fun.”

“I plan on having a lot of fun tonight,” Miles whispered into her ear causing her to
blush for a whole other reason.

Chapter
Eighteen

Miles stood next to Morgan as they waved goodbye to Marshall and Katelyn. His brother and his new wife ran down the stone path toward their limousine.
Miles could feel Morgan’s shoulder rubbing against his
body
as she smiled at the happy couple. He had to touch more of her. He slid his hand over hers and pulled it in close to his lips. Miles looked down at her and smiled before placing a soft kiss on her hand.

“Let’s go,” Miles whis
pered in her ear while the crow
d
around them cheered and waved.

Morgan could only nod as
she allowed Miles to
pull her along through the
people
to his car. She suddenly felt
self-conscious
as
she
sat waiting for Miles to
jog around the car
.
She just had a hard time believing all this was happening. It was hard to not get lost in her feelings for Miles, but could she afford to?

When his hand squeezed her knee and started to massage
its
way up
her leg
she decided she could definitely afford it. In fact she’d felt as if she’d been saving for it her whole life. She looked over at Miles and found him looking at her
with such heat in his eyes she felt
as if she’d melt into the seat.

“Miles, don’t you think we should talk about David?”
s
he asked
,
nearly breathless.

“No. Not tonight
.” She felt his hand bunch
up
her long dress and
pull it up over her knees. Her breath caught when his fingers danced along her
thigh and headed for her

“Oh. My. God.”
Morgan
panted as his fingers traced along her panty line.
She closed her eyes and leaned her head back and
burned with every touch of his fingers.

“We’re here,” she heard his husky voice say through her haze of passion.

“Not yet. Keep going!” Morgan’s eyes shot open when
she heard Miles’
s
low laughter.

“No, I mean we’re at my house,” he chuckled as he turned off his car.

Morgan took a couple deep breaths as Miles made his way to her
door
while she
tried to calm
herself
down. She was afraid she might not make it to the bedroom if she didn’t. His hands
—h
is fingers!

Miles opened the door
.
W
hen she looked up at
his
outstretched
hand
,
then
up the muscled arm to his chiseled face
,
she lost what little control she had. Morgan
placed her hand in his and stood up. She took a step forward and stumbled on the brick
walk
way.
His
arms wrapped around her to steady her and she
looked up into his hazel eyes now darkened with pleasure.

Oh screw calming down! Morgan wrapped her hands around his neck and brought his lips to hers. She gently rubbed her
lips against his and then softly
sucked on
h
is lower lip. Miles pulled her possessively
against h
im
and stroke
d his ton
gue against hers slowly. She le
t out a groan in frustration
—s
he wanted more. She had to have more!

Morgan deepened the kiss and ran her
hands down
his back. She
ground against
him until she felt
his manhood
grow hard in response. Before Morgan knew it,
her dress was unzipped
and
sliding
to th
e ground. Morgan felt the cool night air dance along her heated
skin as she tossed her head back and looked at the stars.

“Much better,” Miles mumbled into her ne
ck as he started to trail kisses
down her
throat
. His hands teased
her nipples into pleasured peaks.

Morgan wasted no time herself. He wasn’t going to have all the fun. As they stumbled up the path toward the house she stripped him of this tuxedo jacket and clumsily managed to unbutton his shirt.
Her feet hit the bottom
stair of the porch and Miles gu
ided her down to the step
s.

He
knelt before her and looked up sensually a
t her, “I want you, here, now,” he practically growled as he placed a kiss on that sensitive spot behind her knee.

She was about to respond when he moved up her leg with his lips and then suddenly the stairs seemed like
the perfect place to… “
Oh
M
y
G
od
!” s
he screamed into the night air.

Morgan snuggled closer to
Miles
as they lay curled up in bed. They had finally made it inside and then up to the bedroom after a quick layover on the hall rug. Miles was stroking her hair as she absently ran her fingers over his chest. She couldn’t be any happier. They fit together perfectly
—i
n more ways than one.

“Miles, I was thinking about something.” She moved her head back on his arm so she could look up at him. “What do you think about…

She was c
ut off by Bill
whose head lifted from his big dog bed on the
floor.
Gone was the sweet old dog with big round eyes. Bill’s hair
rose
and he was baring his teeth as he growled at her. “Miles, why is he growling at me?”

“It’s not you. I hear the geese too,”
Miles
said tightly as he pulled his arm out from under
her to go look out the window.

“So?”

“It means we’re
not alone.” Miles pulled back the curtain just enough to be able to see out. “Crap! They’re coming. Put this on.” Miles tossed her his tuxedo shirt as he grabbed
his
pants
off
the floor.

“Who is?” Morgan asked in confusion. She pulled the large shirt over her head
,
buttoning th
e top couple of buttons
.
The shirt was long enough to come slightly above her knees
.

“David’s friends. Hurry!”

Mi
les
yanked
her
from
the bed
as he
pulled a handgun from one of the
dresser
drawers. “
Here.
Do you know how to use this?” Morgan shook her head. Her parents had never a
llowed guns in the house.

I turned the safety off, so don’t aim it at anything unless you intend to pull the trigger.”

Miles shoved the gun in her hand. She was surprised how heavy it felt. Bill trotted along her side as Miles pulled her down the stairs as fast as he could. “Where are we going?”

“We aren’t going anywhere. You are. I’m going to
get
their attention. I want you to run as fast as you can out the b
ack door and into the woods.
Follow the moon and it’ll take you to my parent
s’
house.”

“I can’t leave you here!” Morgan worried. She wanted to
stay with
Miles
to
keep him safe
;
she couldn’t imagine leaving him behind.

“You can and you will. Please, Morgan.
I’ll
be able to do my job a lot better without worrying about you.” Miles opened the gun safe
hidden
in a large cabinet and pulled out a
n
M-16 and another
handgun
, which he shoved into his waistband at the small of his back.
He turned back to her and Morgan felt the tears start to fall.

“Please,” she begged.

“Morgan, you need to do this for me, okay?” Morgan nodded slowly then. If it
was
better for him, then she’d do it. “I’m going to go upstairs. As soon as you hear the first shot, run with all you have.” Morgan looked down on her bare feet and grimaced. She only had four
-
inch heels
—n
ot too
good
for running.

“I love you. I always have.” Morgan ran her hand over the stubble on his cheek.

“I know. Get ready.” Miles bent down and gave her a searing kiss that lasted only a second. All too soon he was bounding up the stairs. She looked down at Bill who gave her a little whine and walked to the back door with her.

“I guess it’s just you and me.” Bill thumped his tail and Morgan unlocked the door and waited.

Morgan tried to stay calm in order to hear Miles’
s
cue over her beating heart. She wondered if she’d know it when she heard it. She looked down at Bill who sat calmly by her feet. This was all her fault.
All of it.
It seemed like a good idea until she placed Miles
square
in the middle of danger.

A shot rang out and Morgan said a quick prayer for
his
safety as she ripped open the door and took off at a
dead
run. She kept her eye
s
on the tree line
as her feet padded over the
well-manicured
lawn. Bill stuck to her side as she blindly sprinted forward.
She plowed into the
hidden depths of the trees and bushes
and felt the
pain first on her feet as the soft grass turned to
dead leaves and sticks
. Then she was faced with the problem of constantly being hit on the face,
arms, and body as she pushed through shrubs and darted around large evergreens
.

Bill growled but she didn’t have time to think what it meant
as
a body
hit
her. She gasped for breath as she was
being flung
into
a leafless bush
. Her hands landed first as she tried to block her fall, but with
the
man on top of her
it made the impact worse
.
The gun she’d been carrying went flying out of her hand.
When she hit the ground she felt the last of her air being stolen from her lungs as the man’s full weight came down on her.

Bill barked madly as a hand came up to tangle itself in her hair. She tried to scream when the man pulled hard yanking her head up from the
ground
. “You’re dead, bitch,” the man snarled before pushing her face back into the
cold ground
.

Morgan
fought for breath
until she felt the weight removed from her back.
She
breathed deeply,
cough
ing
and sputter
ing
out the dirt in her mouth. She thought Miles had come until she felt her head being yanked back.
She staggered to a standing position to lessen
the
pain
as
she looked around wildly.

Bill was dancing madly around
th
em as the man
held
her against his body. Miles was nowhere to be found. He wasn’t going to save her. The sad realization hit her as she felt the man’s hands wrap around her throat. That left only one option
—s
he was just going to have to save herself.

Morgan struggled to fill her lungs with air and garnering all the strength she had, she flung her elbow backward toward the man’s gut. She heard
him grunt and loosen his hands around her throat enough for her to break his hold. Not waiting to see what he’d do next
,
Morgan
tried to run but
the man
had
managed to snag her shirt.
