Shit!
Just what he needed right now!

“Officers, what can I help you with?” he asked, deciding to put his best foot forward.

The couple came up short just a few feet away from him. Neither one of them smiled. “Virgil Cantrell?” asked the muscular man before him. His hair was a bit shaggy for a police officer and Virgil had to wonder who he knew that got him on the police force. Nodding in answer to the question, he responded. “Yes?”

“I’m Sheriff Deputy Trey Goodall, of Lake County. This is Deputy Lyndee Dwyer. We need to discuss one of your employees.” The man glanced toward the now-darkened trailer as if requesting an invitation.

Virgil’s heart thudded hard against his chest cavity, fearful of this impending conversation. He wanted to get down to the Tipsy Tavern and see if he could get some action from those two bar bunnies from the other night. Until he could get the woman he wanted the most, he would have his fun with women who expected to be used.

“Oh, sounds serious,” Virgil said. “Yes, let’s go into the office.”

Virgil led the duo over to the trailer he had just vacated and up the steps. Digging the keys out of his pocket, he unlocked the door. Flipping on the light just inside the door, he stepped aside to let them enter first. Closing the door behind him, he motioned for the two to take a seat. Since there were only two chairs, the secretary’s and a folding one across the desk from it, he’d have to let them take them. He watched as Trey placed his hand on Lyndee’s lower back and led her to the secretary’s chair, making sure she sat before he sat in the folding chair. He was instantly aware there was something going on between the two.

Virgil, sitting on the edge of the filing cabinet next to the door, looked at the duo. “So, what employee of mine are you having a problem with?”

“It’s not a problem, Mr. Cantrell,” Deputy Dwyer said, crossing one leg over the opposite knee. “We have some bad news about Adam Ferguson. He was found dead in his house earlier this afternoon.”

Knowing he was being measured at that very moment, Virgil had to hold tight to the little control he had. Letting his mouth drop open in astonishment, more from the fact that Jeremy had assured him that this wouldn’t be found out so soon, but at least to keep up a good front, he stuttered a moment. “O–oh…what?”

“Did Mr. Ferguson call in today or had you noticed he hadn’t come in?” Trey asked, tossing a black-booted foot across his knee.

Think, you idiot! Think!
“I wasn’t in the office today. You’d actually have to talk to my secretary, Gwen, in the morning. I’m sure she’ll have that information.”

Panic constricted his lungs as he watched a blonde eyebrow lift on Deputy Dwyer’s face. Shit! What had he just said?
Calm down!

Trey reached in past his jacket to his shirt pocket and pulled out a business card. “Please give this to her in the morning. We need to speak with her as soon as she comes in.”

“How long had you known Mr. Ferguson?” the lady asked as if Trey hadn’t even spoken. “Do you know if he was having any problems with any of the other workers? Any money problems? How about women? Did he have any problems with women?”

What the hell was this woman’s problem?
She wasn’t even giving him a chance to answer anything.
Wait! What did Sean and Gene say about a federal agent in the restaurant when they were following Scotty? She was Anita’s friend. Damn it!

Trying to keep up with the questions, he would try to answer them without putting his foot in his mouth, or actually, the needle in his arm. “Scotty was well known and loved by all the men. I have only known him for about year, since I took over for my father who passed away. I didn’t know him well enough to delve into the intimacies of his life.”

“How well did he know the Cummings? Did he get along with Craig? Was there a rivalry between the two?”

There she went with the barrage of questions again. Jeez, she was a mouthy one. Deputy Goodall really needed to get a handle on his woman. She was going to get herself into trouble one day.

“Mr. Ferguson and Craig were friends as far as I know,” he answered.

“There wouldn’t be a reason why he would make Anita Cummings the beneficiary to his estate, would there?” Ms. Dwyer asked. “Could there have been something going on behind her late husband’s back? Or, is there a possibility that Mr. Ferguson had anything to do with Craig’s death?”

“What? He did what?” he practically shouted. Ms. Dwyer shimmied a bit in her seat at his outburst.
Get a hold of yourself, moron!
“I mean, why would he do anything to hurt Craig?”

“That’s what we thought you’d be able to clear up,” the blonde said as she rose to her feet. “But, I guess not. If you remember anything out of the ordinary, please give us a call at the number on the card Deputy Goodall gave you.”

Rising to his feet before Trey did, Virgil smiled awkwardly at the slight woman. “Of course.”

Noticing Deputy Dwyer glance at the desk, his mind began to race again. “I noticed that since you are paying out the payroll, could we go ahead and get Mr. Ferguson’s paycheck? It’ll need to be entered into his estate.”

Again, he could only respond, “Of course.” But now, his heart was doing backflips in his chest.
Ah!

Retrieving the envelope from the desk where it had landed earlier, he opened it and began shuffling through the individual envelopes within it. Going through them a second time, he shook his head, trying to put on his best confusion face. “I’m sorry, but it looks as if my bookkeeper didn’t make a check out to Mr. Ferguson. I’m sure if Anita will come in tomorrow or the next day, we’ll be able to get that issued for her.”

Replacing the manila envelope on the desk, Virgil stepped back a few feet, watching the knitted-brows of Deputy Dwyer, knowing he was going to have problems with the woman. Trey reached out his right hand politely. “Thank you, Mr. Cantrell. Please have your secretary call in first thing in the morning.”

Virgil tentatively shook the proffered hand before he turned to the woman and expected to shake her hand, also. She brushed him off as if he was scum.
Bitch!

Remaining where he was, he watched the two walk out of the office. He heard them walk down the steps and he waited until he heard their truck start up before closing up the office again. Slowly making his way out to the Hummer, he climbed in, started the engine, and headed down the mountain somberly.

Fishing his cell phone out of his jacket pocket, he selected a couple of items on the screen before putting the device to his ear, waiting for the receiving party to answer. When they did, his only words were, “Meet me at the Tipsy. One hour!”

Disconnecting the call, he let his concentration control the driving of his massive vehicle, especially since the roads could ice over quickly in these mountains. He could only hope the duo that entertained him a few minutes ago hit a patch of black ice and disappeared over an embankment.

* * * *

Anita was irritated by the time bedtime came around. Her men had done everything she had instructed them to do. She had even managed to get Kevin to put up the draperies correctly in the bedroom. Tomorrow she would get the rest of the bedroom put together which excited her. It was the first time she had been able to go out and buy brand new sheets and blankets, and even draperies. It was the same for the bathroom accessories.

But at the moment, she wanted to be loved on and none of the men had made any moves to do that so far. Now, she sat on the bed, dressed in an old pair of flannel pajamas that her mother had given her many years ago. She hadn’t gotten around to unpacking the clothes she had bought upon the insistence of the guys, yet.

As she waited for the guys to come to bed, she lay back against the pillows and thought about everything that had happened earlier on. She felt blessed that she had three men who loved her and also had friends like Lyndee and some of the others around the ranch. Perhaps tomorrow she’d go over and visit with Angela since she lived here on the property, also.

With the events of the day wearing on her, Anita tried desperately to keep her eyes open but lost the fight, drifting off and dreaming about her men telling her over and over again they loved her. Yes, she was truly blessed.

Chapter Fifteen

Virgil was up before the sun was beginning its climb in a race to overtake the night. Arriving back at his rented townhome about four hours previously, he wasn’t able to sleep with the thoughts that raced through his head. After meeting Jeremy at the Tipsy Tavern last night, he tried to have his way with the two bar bunnies at the girls’ apartment near the nursing college they attended but found he could only think about Anita.

Pouring himself a cup of coffee, Virgil walked into the living room and sat in front of the large screen TV. Pressing a button on the remote that rested on the end table next to him, he watched the electronic device before him flicker on. Pressing another button, he waited.

The screen changed from blue into a vivid video of a bedroom. The camera angle was as if it had been mounted directly above the bed. Virgil smiled when Anita walked into the room, closed the door behind her, and leaned against it as she let out a long ragged sigh. After about ten seconds she moved over to the bed, pulled the covers down, and then reached for a remote control on the nightstand. After turning on the TV which looked to be about fifteen years old, she slowly began to remove her clothes.

First her T-shirt was pulled over her head, her light brown hair cascading down her back once it was freed. A white bra covered her ample breasts though it wasn’t sexy at all. Virgil was certain it was an old nursing bra and he knew she wore dingy white granny panties under the gray sweat pants she hadn’t removed yet.

The installation of the video camera disguised in the smoke alarm had taken place while she was at work one evening at the Tipsy Tavern. Jeremy had snuck in through the back door after midnight and managed to get it up and working before she made it home that night around three a.m. She hadn’t slept in the bedroom that night since there had been no recording on the small camera. It seemed that when she came home really late, she slept elsewhere in the small apartment.

Virgil cursed Craig for not providing better for this lovely woman. The bed was really just a mattress and a box-spring on the floor. Mismatched nightstands stood sentinel on each side of the bed while a dresser with a drawer that seemed to remain forever stuck in the open position sat under the window. The closet was crammed with clothing, both Anita’s and Craig’s even though the latter had been gone for several months already, so the doors wouldn’t even shut. Several laundry baskets sat along the walls full of clothes and stuff as there wasn’t enough room in the apartment to accommodate the family’s belongings.

Watching the scene unfold before him, Virgil readjusted his butt on the leather couch and pulled down the sweats he had slept in to about mid-thigh. As Anita reached behind her to undo the clasp on her bra, the man began to fondle the set of balls between his own legs. When her breasts sprang free of their material prison, Virgil groaned as his cock grew hard and long in an instant.

Moving his hand upward, he began to stroke the length of his member as Anita slipped the pants down her legs revealing the panties he was anticipating. As if turning to inspect something invisible on her behind, Anita looked down at the swell of her nylon-clad ass and shook her head. Then, she slipped those down her legs, her butt now hiked up in direct sight of the camera.

“Oh, yes. Show that ass to me, bitch,” he said aloud, sweat beading on his upper lip. “I am going to fuck that ass of yours soon, Anita. Then you will belong to me!”

As if she knew the camera was there, the woman caressed her butt cheek with her left hand before giving it a bit of a jiggle. He knew what she was doing but that was going to end when she was his. No more thinking her butt was too big. It was just right for him.

Though he had noticed when he had seen her the other night at the Tipsy Tavern she did look a little thinner. Her jeans were skin-tight and her ass didn’t jiggle like he wanted it to. He would have to speak with her about that.

Watching her crawl onto her bed, his hand began to move faster. She lay out flat on her back and let her hand slide slowly down from her throat, along her chest before caressing one of her tits. Plucking at the nipple there, he could see the darker piece of flesh pucker up as she moved her hand further downward, over the swell of her mother’s stomach and into the darker curls between her legs. As her fingers slid into her slit and began to rub, slowly at first before picking up speed, Virgil’s hand began to move quickly as he watched the woman before him trying to get herself off. He wished there was sound to go along with the erotic scene before him, but soon, Anita was arching her back and hips off the bed and he knew she had come. Two more movements of his hand later, he watched in awe as his ejaculation launched itself in multiple arches to land on the hardwood floor several feet away.

Ah, what a terrific way to start the day. Hitting a button on the remote, the video stopped playing, removing the image of a satisfied Anita from his TV. Now that two obstacles were removed from her life, he had to attend to the three that had presented themselves since Craig’s death.

This woman was going to pay for making him wait so long to have her, but he promised himself it was going to be very soon. In fact, he had come up with a new plan last night as he had driven down the mountain. Yes. It was going to be very soon.
