is a professional writer who is called “The Number One Best-Selling Pop Biographer” in
Publisher's Weekly
and has been referred to in the press as “The Prince of Pop Music Bio's.” He has authored over fifty-eight published books involving rock & roll and show business. He has penned two

In 1984 Bego released his biography of Michael Jackson entitled:

It hit the stores the week that Jackson's hair caught on fire filming a Pepsi-Cola commercial and Bego ended up selling three million copies of his book in the United States alone. It spent six weeks on

On the Road with Michael!

In 1985, Bego wrote the million-selling
Madonna!
about the pop icon from his hometown of Pontiac, Michigan. It was so popular that he has twice expanded the book as

ABOUT “ARETHA FRANKLIN: THE QUEEN OF SOUL”

The 2012 version of
Aretha Franklin: The Queen of Soul
, features new photos, new never-before published material, and an updated discography. Long considered to be the ultimate biographical portrait of Aretha Franklin, the new edition takes the story even further than previous editions. It includes new material from the author's in-depth interviews with Jerry Wexler, Clyde Otis, Ted White, Clive Davis, Martha Reeves, and Aretha Franklin—the Queen of Soul herself.

Press reviews for
Aretha Franklin: The Queen of Soul
by Mark Bego:

The Library Journal

“Bego's detail-laden effort could well stand as the definitive reading of the Queen of Soul's life and career.”

The Rock & Roll Reader's Guide
by Gary Krebs

“Mark Bego does a magnificent job exploring the pieces of Franklin's life and Grammy-filled career … excellent photos contribute to this ‘… well rounded portrait.'”

Inside Books
by Anne Raso

“Author Mark Bego—a former
Modern Screen
editor and author of a dozen celeb bios—does a nice and tidy job of telling Aretha's tale of many personal challenges. It's hard to hold back the tears through stories about Aretha's desertion by her mother at age six, her strict Baptist upbringing,
a teenage pregnancy, three unhappy marriages and the shooting death of her father who was a renown gospel preacher. Fortunately, there are plenty of humorous anecdotes to balance the negative in the R&B star's life … this is a colorful book—as colorful as the eccentric Queen of Soul herself.”
