Chapter 17

Whether she heard me in her sleep or not was still left to be seen
but she was sure acting differently. She'd awakened from her drug-induced
slumber like nothing happened. I kept watching and waiting for some sort of
relapse but she was like a woman with a plan. Suddenly she was into wedding
plans and babies; she was like a whirlwind all of a sudden with enough energy
to keep me hopping. It was so astounding that I put her guards on high alert
because who knows what the fuck she could get up to.

I had to leave her for a little while to go see about business but
I didn't plan to be gone long; I'd used my phone and my extensive network of
contacts to do some digging into her shit, first things first. I'd decided to
put my shit on ice for the next little while, this shit that was fucking with
her head was way more important than some congressman that was holding out for
more.

Her father and uncle had given me all the latest info they had on
the guy who'd done her mother but from what they told me he seemed to always be
one step ahead of them, maybe that's because he knew to look for them, because
he had to know that the mark they had on his head was for life, there was no
pardon. I got a general description and a name and that was all I needed; I'll
do the rest myself.

"Mouth what the fuck?"

"What?"

"What's all this?"

I'd left her alone; well not alone Alec and Zane were in the house
somewhere, but I'd gone out to see about some shit that needed taking care of
today, Intel had come in that might've been helpful. That was a surprise since
apparently Rossi had been after this guy all these years and hadn't heard a
peep and yet I was getting hits right off the bat. I couldn't have been gone
more than two hours since I'd made it a point not to be gone from her for too
long but I came back to a kitchen full of pies and other shit. I didn't even
know she could do this shit.

I was looking at her a little warily I'm sure, I mean other men might be
excited by this shit, me I was scared like a motherfucker, either that shit dad
gave her was jacked or something had twisted in her head.

"It's cakes and pies and cookies." Just then the guys
came into the kitchen, I could tell they'd been eating whatever the fuck she'd
been baking because they had empty dishes and big ass grins on their faces. I
checked them over to make sure my little spitfire hadn't pulled a fast one and
slipped them something because sure as shit something was going on here or I'd
woken up in the fucking twilight zone.

"You back to making me crazy again aren't you?"

"Boss, the Mouth can cook, just saying." Alec was still
chewing.

They were looking over the rest of the shit she had spread out all
over the counters and the island in the kitchen. How the fuck long was I gone
anyway.

"What smells so good in here; damn Tony look at this
shit."

My two sisters in law came in behind me and joined the other two
at the trough, was I the only one that saw something wrong with this picture? They
were all acting like this shit was normal. I snagged her around the waist and
took her out of the room; cornering her against the wall in the hallway I had
to first steal a kiss before interrogating her. She had flour on her nose, this
shit was beyond scary.

"What are you up to baby girl?"

I couldn't go hard, I had to remember that just a few short hours
ago she'd been sick, I wasn't too sure exactly where she was in her head, she
hadn't even mentioned anything about her episode its almost as if she didn't
remember or she just put it out of her head; I'm not sure which I preferred.

"Nothing, I'm in the mood to bake, I haven't done it since I
moved here." She climbed to her toes and kissed me; what was I to do? I
kissed her back, her explanation sounded good to me and if that shit made her
happy then so be it.

My phone buzzed on my hip and I pulled it off while still sucking
her face, my girl was in a mood, I might have to get rid of the guys.

I pulled away long enough to answer the phone but she started in
on my ears.

"Flanagan."

"You offed the congressman? I thought we were going to handle
it?"

"Poppy?"

I just looked at her, the sneak, I don't know how she fucking did
it but I knew she did.

"Yeah, thing is this isn't your usual but we'll deal, not to
worry tell the boys we've got clean up since they seem to have their heads up
their ass, how many times I told you never leave anything behind?"

"Sorry about that poppy it won't happen again." I kept
my eyes on hers; she was looking at me just a little warily now, biting into
that lip of hers. I hung up the phone and just looked at her.

"What am I gonna do with you huh?"

"What?" She gave me the big wide eyes like she was innocent
and shit.

"How'd you get
out without them knowing?"

She didn't answer me so I used my arms that were wrapped around
her to shake her a little.

"Answer me baby, how'd you do it, I'm not mad at you I just
wanna know."

"Nope, if I tell you you'd know my secrets and what if I have
to do it again?"

"Mouth I'll kick your ass, I'm not fucking around."

"The wedding's in a few weeks we don't need to have any loose
strings, we're supposed to be starting over fresh for the baby which means we
have to get all this shit done in a short time."

"How did you do it?"

"Seriously it doesn't take that long to kill somebody it's
not like I went there to have a conversation with him or anything Charlie
Luciano." I rolled my eyes at that, was she implying that that's what I did?

"How'd you know where to find him?"

"Google earth."

"Goo...fuck me sideways who else is on your hit list this
week Aileen Wuornos?"

"Stop being so dramatic, he had to be dealt with and now it's
done, one less thing for you to have to deal with, now I have to get my key
lime pie out the oven before it burns."

I'm gonna
fucking wring her damn neck, she's too fucking much, what the fuck?

I left her and went to the kitchen.

"I thought I told you fucks not to let her out of your
sight?" They were both stuffing their faces again while Mikey and Tony
were digging into what looked like chocolate pie.

"We didn't, she was in here the whole time." Zane looked
back and forth between us puzzled.

"Well except for when she took her bath and asked us to watch
the pies that they don't burn and put the others in." Alec piped in, poor
sod; I could see how they would fall for that; they couldn't very well follow
her in there unless they wanted me to plug their asses and she knows that too
the sneak.

"Am I paying you to be a fucking cook?"

"Don't take it out on them it's not their fault."

"Yeah, well you just cost them their jobs."

"Wha...you can't, Shane don't do that." She looked back
and forth between me and them; uh huh, I've got you now, found your weak spot.

I left the kitchen like I was really mad, I'd given the guys the
look to let them know I was playing her, I couldn't very well fault them for
this, she gets the drop on me too; it seems there's no way to contain the
murderous little deviant.

She followed me out of the kitchen pleading with me not to fire
the boys, I could tell that this was going to be my life, I could tell her to
quit this shit a million times I could threaten I could lock her ass up
somewhere, she'd still find a way. There was only one thing to do.

"Get packed, we're going to Chicago."

She stopped short; "You're kicking me out, you can't kick me
out...."

I rolled my eyes again, since when had I picked up her annoying
habit?

"I said we Mouth, now get your shit together; I know where
Tommy the knife is." I said it fast in hopes that the blow wouldn't be too
harsh but she still stumbled at the name. I looked back and took her hand
pulling her along behind me.

"That's where I was this morning when I left you, I don't
know how you missed him he's been in Wisconsin of all places all this time, not
too close and not too far; he's still working for the mob...."

"You sure it's him?"

"I'm sure baby."

"But you were only gone for a few hours how could you
find out so quickly?" She was crying again so I pulled her in and kissed
her.

"Trust me, I know how important this is to you, I wouldn't
fuck up, it's him. Now we can do this now or we can wait until after the
wedding, your choice."

"Let's do it now so we can start fresh after the wedding, I
want it all done and buried so we can move on; but, what the hell are we gonna
do with ourselves now?"

"We'll figure it out, there has to be more to life than
killing and shit."

"This going legit shit is the pits."

Who knew it would be harder for her than I?

Excerpt from Book 4 of
The Spitfire Series The Family

   Chicago isn't just windy, it's...something;
there's an underlying tone of something very off about this place. Maybe it's
the mobster in me or maybe it's because I know the history of the place so
well, but I felt stifled here, couldn't wait to get the fuck out.

"We're in and out, I have everything in place for us so it
should be a clean run."

"Flanagan you've said the same thing like fifteen times since
we got on the jet, I'm about ready to stuff a sock in your craw."

She's a little nasty this
morning, she had her first bout of morning sickness and what a delight that
was. Somehow when a strong woman became ill it had more of an impact, of course
it could also have to do with the fact that I tried to leave her ass behind
after she'd been so sick. You'd think I'd slapped the shit out of her the way
she reacted.

"Hey yenta one and two you two think you could maybe keep up
here, this is not a sightseeing expedition."

"Sure bro, the girls gave us a list."

"What the fuck Anthony, a list of what?"

These fucks were trying
to make me crazy, first I had to bring them because heaven forbid I should go
anywhere on the map without their presence, then I had to bring the twins
because they were Mouth's shadow from now on heaven help them. I've never heard
so much muttering and complaining from two grown men in my life.

  The six of us
had taken my Lear jet to Chi town early this morning; we'd be holed up at a
secret location chosen by her old man, not their mansion of course, we didn't
want the fuckers to know we were on their turf, not until it was too late anyway.
Mouth was chomping at the bit to get shit done, there was no use cautioning her
or telling her to take it easy; in one ear and out the other.

"We're not fucking
shopping you ass, are you kidding me what the fuck?" Okay I'm still a
little raw after watching my girl be sick, I had no idea morning sickness was
like that. She was damn near rolling around on the floor in pain. Of course I
got the blame for that as soon as she was coherent again.

I could see why Alphonso had called my place a dump, if this was
just a little get away spot then I'd hate to see where she'd lived before; not
that my place was anything to sneeze at, but the Rossis were into some serious
shit. The place was like something out of an old Roman flick or some shit,
marble and gold, and her room was fucking huge.
