                                   Chapter 46

Dress shopping again isn’t really my thing. Janey is graduating from high school tomorrow, and I want her to have anything she wants.

“What about this one?” She holds up a slutty blue dress for me to see. Scrunching my face up, she laughs.

“Is that a no?” Shaking my head, this girl is going to be the death of me.

“I think that’s a no.” Drew throws his arm around my shoulder as we both smile at her.

Janey rolls her eyes before she goes back to looking.

“You’re an amazing sister.” His fingers twirl around in my hair before I turn, wrapping my arms around his waist.

“I don’t know what I’d do without you, Drew.” Holding me against him, he sighs.

“You’d be fine without me, but you’re better with me.” I know what he means, and I agree.

I was fine before Drew but having him in my life makes me feel that much stronger. All the secrets would eat at me, beg me to be released, but there was no way I could do that.

With Drew, he already knows my secrets. It’s as if he lives in my mind.

“I want to take you out tonight.” Drew surprises me with what he said.

I glance up at him as he smiles at me.

“Like, out of the house?” Chuckling, he kisses my forehead.

“Yes. Like out of the house. No killing though. That’s my only rule.” Giggling a little, I think I can handle that.

“Hannah!” Janey’s squeal pulls me away from our little conversation.

“That is beautiful.” Pointing at the dress she holds in her hands, she beams at me.

“Give it to me.” Drew let’s go of me and grabs the dress, heading toward the counter.

“Hey! What are you doing?” Trailing behind him with Janey, he looks over his shoulder at us.

“Graduation present.” Winking at the two of us, Janey hugs me.

“He’s really great, Hannah.” For once in my life, I have to agree with that.

“He is. So, where are you going after the party?” Janey shrugs before laying her head on my shoulder.

I’m going to miss this. I’m going to miss my sister when she goes off to college. I hate to see her leave, but I’m glad that she is getting out of this town.

“I think Justin wanted to go to his cousins. I won’t stay out late.” Kissing her cheek, she looks up at me.

“I’m going out tonight, so take your time.” Janey pulls out of my hug to look at me. With her hands planted on her hips, she grins.

“Like a date? Outside of the house? I can’t believe it.” As much as I love this girl, I want to slap her.

“Believe it. I’m taking her out.” Drew walks up behind us passing her the dress.

“Thanks for this Drew, and for caring about her.”

                                    Chapter 47

“Are you going to smile all night?” Drew bumps his shoulder against mine as we walk down the road.

“I might. She’s doing something with her life, Drew. She’s getting out of this town and doing things. I could smile forever.” Pulling me into his side, I know he has more questions for me. I can see the look in his eyes.

“What is it? Just ask, Drew.” Drew sighs before he stops walking and turns to look at me.

“What’s next for you, Han?” Shaking my head, I don’t know what he means by that.

“What I mean is, what’s the next step for you? You got Jimmy. What’s the plan for the others?” Brushing a piece of hair away from my face, I glare at him. He should know the answer to that.

“I finish what I started. I won’t let them walk away from this. I have two more to go.” Drew cups my face in his hands before kissing me.

“And after that’s all done? Where does that leave you?” I never thought about that.

I’ve been so wrapped up in the plans to take them down that I never thought about my future.

“I honestly don’t know.” Drew smiles before he starts to walk again.

“I do.” Looking up at the smile on his face melts my insides.

“Oh yeah?” He nods before looking down at me.

“With me. Wherever I am, it’s where you belong. I don’t know what to do without you. You’ve pushed every fucking limit I have. I don’t give over control, yet you demand it.” His smile falls, and a now serious looks crosses his features.

“I guess you’re lucky that I feel the same way.” His hand squeezes mine in a reassuring manner although, I know this is hard for him.

“Where exactly are we going?” Walking and talking with Drew has been a welcomed reprieve.

We went to dinner and watched a movie like normal people do.  I honestly don’t get all the hype though. I’m happy just being with Drew.

“I haven’t decided. I want to put the house up for sale. I know you don’t want to stay around here.” Shaking my head that I don’t. Once I’m away from this town, there will be no coming back.

“I hate that you have to uproot yourself for me. Just because I want out of here doesn’t mean you do.” Stopping in the park, Drew sits on a bench pulling me along with him.

“Don’t you listen? I want to be wherever you are. I don’t care if it’s in this town, or China. I just want to be with you.” Tilting my head back, I look into the sky.

I watch the stars twinkle above us. So far out of this world, and away from all the lies, cheating, and death.

No one can hurt them; no one can take away their light.

What if life could be so easy?

“Do you wonder if there is truly life after death?” Drew looks over before he shakes his head.

“I don’t know. What if life just starts over again?” Looking back up, I ponder that.

I don’t know if I could handle another life like this.

                                    Chapter 48

Packing Janey’s things seems surreal. I never thought that I’d lose my little sister. I guess I’m not really losing her though.

She’s going to college, and I couldn’t be any prouder of her.

“Is that everything?” Looking at the bags she has packed, it doesn’t seem like a lot.

“We don’t have much, and besides; I don’t want to take everything. It isn’t worth it.” Shrugging her shoulders, I get what she means.

“I know. I just feel like you should have more.” Pulling her into a hug, I really will miss her.

“I’m not going to be that far away, Hannah. We can visit, and I’ll call.” Kissing her cheek, I pull away.

“I know. It’s just going to be weird without you here.” Janey giggles before she picks up her bags.

“Justin’s
here
. You watch out for her.” Nodding at Drew, he smiles.

“As if she actually needed me.” Janey turns to smile at me before she walks out the door. My heart feels as if it’s fallen completely to the floor.

As much as I’m glad, there’s that part that’s sad. Janey was the reason I woke up every single day. She was the reason that I worked my ass off to make sure she was taken care of.

“She’s going to be fine.” Drew stands next to me at the window as I watch Justin drive away with a piece of my heart.

“I know. I just hope
I will be
.” Drew wraps me in his embrace before kissing the side of my head.

“You will. Unless you know something that I don’t.” My heart slams into my ribs.

“I don’t know anything, but I have a feeling.” Moving to stand in front of me, Drew holds my shoulders.

“Answer me, Han.” His eyes burn deep into my soul like they always do.

“I just feel like something is going to go completely wrong. There’s something in the back of my mind that keeps eating at me. Evil is creeping its way toward me, and I don’t know how to stop it.”  Drew watches me with such intensity that it makes me squirm.

“If there’s anything that I’ve learned in my life, it’s that you never go against your gut. If it feels off Han, walk away.” Shaking my head, there is no way in hell that will happen.

“Never. Not until I finish this. I don’t care how many off feelings I get. I will finish what I started.” Drew shakes his head before smiling.

“How did I know you would say that?” Brushing his fingers over my cheek, I lean into his touch.

“Because you know what lies beneath the surface.” Chuckling, he rests his hand on my shoulder.

“Unfortunately for the both of us, that’s true.”

                                  Chapter 49

Work is work. I go in like the good little girl and play my part.

Drew has been amazing since Janey left for school. She calls me every day and that eases some of the tension that runs through me.

Brian has been noticeably off lately. I’m not sure what’s going on with him, but I can see it’s affecting his relationship with Alan.

“What’s with the brothers?” Sherry, another one of our usual’s, has had her eye on Alan for a long time.

“Not sure. They’ve been like that all night.” Passing her another beer, she spins on her seat to look at Alan.

Rolling my eyes, I get back to work. I know it’s almost closing time and the sooner I can get out of here, the better.

My plans for Alan have slipped lately. I haven’t had the best opportunities since the
accident
at Jimmy’s house.

The guys seem to be a bit on edge after that. I’ve tried to stay late and help close up, but they have both been staying.

I see Brian as his hands fly through the air at Alan. Looks like the little lover boys are having a family feud.

Brian storms toward the bar with his hands clenched at his sides.

“You’re closing tonight!” Growling at me, I just nod my head. What other choice do I have?

Alan walks up next to me as Sherry eyes him. That girl is very desperate.

“Sorry about that. He’s in a mood tonight. He didn’t need to take it out on you.” Smiling at him, he looks over at Sherry. Please God, don’t let him flirt with her.

Tonight could be the night that I finally get phase two over and done with.

“Hey, Sherry.” Her fake smile makes my stomach roll. Everything about her, is fake. Her hair, her eyelashes, hell, even her breasts aren’t real!

“Hey, Alan. I was wondering if you wanted to hang out tonight?” Batting those lashes at him, I hope they don’t fall off and poke her eye out.

“I can’t. I have other plans.” Glancing over his shoulder at me, I can’t stop the internal smile.

My heart leaps in my chest as the thoughts of what I want to do to him filter through my mind.

Finishing up cleaning, I’m not sure where Alan went. The thought occurs to me that he has to make the nightly cash deposit at the bank.

It’s as if a light bulb went off inside my brain. I can make it all look like a
robbery
.

As my body fills with anticipation, I check the locks on the front door before making my way to the back.
