“It’s ok,” Kat whispered reassuringly to Sam. I would inquire as to what this was about.
“Water feels great, Kat,” Cody said like they knew each other well.
I yanked Sam into me. “This concerns you?” I asked.
She took my hand and led me about five feet away and hopped in the pool. I sat on the side and she stood close to me in the water. As much as it shouldn’t have been in my head, she was at perfect position for a blowjob, and my cock hardened.
“Kat and Cody were talking earlier. She’s married. I think they chatted about…”
She couldn’t finish the thought.
“Hooking up?”
She nodded.
“Shit. And you don’t want that to happen, obviously?”
Hair dangled around her face as she shook her head.
“Then I’ll take care of it,” I said.
“Maybe not tonight. We’re just swimming, but we both should make sure they don’t do something stupid.”
I nodded. “I agree.” But truth was, that was Cody’s responsibility and I didn’t like to get involved in that sort of shit…but I’d do this for her.
“Tell me something about you, Mac.”
Well, there was a plus, she didn’t ask my age.
“What do you want to know?”
“Why isn’t a very ugly and super unattractive looking man like yourself married? Do you have children?”
I made a clicking sound with my mouth. “Neither. Never found the right woman I suppose for either. How about you?”
She shrugged…her silhouette against the moonlight was breathtaking.
“I married who the world thought I should marry. The high school sweetheart.”
“And kids?”
With the biggest smile I’d seen yet, her hand splayed over her chest.
“Jake. My one and only son. He’s 15.”
I couldn’t help but smile at her enthusiasm, although she continued to keep an eye on Kat and Cody.
“Excuse me,” I said, dipping down into and working my way through the waist deep water. I grabbed Cody in a headlock. “Nothing is going to happen between you and this woman, you got that?”
Cody’s hands clawed at my arms as he chuckled.
“You can tap out and agree,” I added. “If something happens, you’re fired.”
His fingertips tapped my arm.
“I’ll take that as a yes,” I laughed and shoved him underwater. I made my way back toward Sam who had watched all this unfold.
“I’m back.”
She propped her hands on her hips. “What did you say? Did you embarrass Kat?”
I slid my hands under her arms, lifting her to rest on the side of the pool and then confidently wedged myself between her legs. When a tattered breath escaped her, I smiled.
“Jake? Who is he with while you’re away?”
When she hesitated with a lowered brow, I took note.
“Hopefully, at least seeing his father…but with friends who I trust.”
Immediate topic change.
“Does this make you nervous?” I asked with the girth of my body forcing her legs apart.
She shook her head, but I knew she was. Our thoughts were in the same place I was certain. And that place for me, was sliding inside of her. Taking a risk, I glided one hand over her knee, measuring her response.
Her lips fell slightly open, but then she tightened her jaw and her lips came together.
“What’s on your mind?” Jesus that was the stupidest thing to ask a woman and I can’t believe those words just came out of my mouth.
“Look, Mr…Mac.” She grinned, so I did too. “I know we live in a world where you people hook up at a moment’s notice and then simply move on, and this old lady is trying to wrap her mind around it.”
My other hand casually slid over her other knee.
“It doesn’t make you a bad person, you know,” I teased playfully.
She laughed. Laughed. Damn this girl got me or got to me, I wasn’t sure which.
“Don’t you think we should at least know each other’s last names?”
This woman was way too guarded for me to be honest with her. I think I knew where she was from and I knew she was a doctor. I also knew that if she knew that I knew she was a doctor she’d fucking flip.
“What do you want to know about me?” I asked.
She pulled a few hairs from the small patch of chest hair I had.
“How about you kiss me goodnight and we can start tomorrow?”
Unwillingly, I agreed and then moved in for the kiss. About that time, a splash of water doused both of us. Protectively, I shielded her from the onslaught of water intentionally splashed our way.
I settled for kissing her forehead, and with her face still pressed against my chest, I whispered, “I’m about to go all Thor on someone’s ass.”
She giggled, which forced me to smile. There was a little girl that lived inside every woman no matter how old she was. I had caught a glimpse of her a couple of times inside of Sam. Without hesitation, I flipped around and started going hard on whoever it was. Surprisingly, it was Kat and Cody laughing hysterically. The moment Sam saw them, she leapt from my behind me and we both went balls to the walls with our arms.
I couldn’t fight the smile that took sole possession of my face as I watched this playful side of her play out.
Suddenly, Juls and Blake joined in, and soon we were all drenched but laughing hysterically. When I noticed her eyes pinched shut and her head angled back to get away from the spray, I decided I’d rescue her from the water war. As I shielded her by turning my back to them, her eyes peered open and she smiled up at me.
“Get on my back,” I instructed and then turned and bent down in the water. She did. I was surprised as shit. Then I lifted her up and out of the water, scaled the stairs to a chorus of ‘come on’s’ and ‘quitters,’ from the others and a ‘fuckin pussies,’ from Blake. I walked until we were out of sight.
Her wet body clung to mine, trusting me completely, and that made me hard as a rock. I sat in a lounger, setting her down first and then I rotated around to look at her. Her legs were still spread from straddling my back, and only a two inch piece of material covered her pussy. Every ounce of me wanted to break that barrier with my finger…tongue…dick.
I leaned forward. “May I get that kiss now?”
Her head barely moved, but it was a green light. I paused for a second so I could be sure the hooded-eye look she wore was one of desire…there was no doubt. I knew that look. Her eyes implored me to touch her.
“What’s wrong?” she whispered.
I swallowed hard, shaking my own head. “Not a damn thing.” That’s when I closed my mouth over hers, threading my fingers through her wet tangles. This woman stole my fucking breath. Her tongue was timid in its search for mine, but when they found each other, she relaxed totally and moaned into my mouth. Her hands skidded over my shoulders and down until they lay flush with my chest. I had to stop. Feeling her hands on my skin, knowing very little stood between me being inside of her, knowing how long it had been for her. I broke free. Stopped the kiss completely. Without thinking, I stood. Then second-guessing my abrupt halt, I extended my hand to her.
“Come on. I want to get to bed so we can start this get to know you tomorrow.”
Her face was broken at first but recovered quickly. Shit. I’d hurt her by pulling away. She gave into me with her hand and I didn’t let go as we made our way back over to where the group was. Thank God, Kat, Cody, Juls and Blake were all talking. I’d reward Cody for following through later. I winked at him as we walked by.
The next morning at breakfast, I ordered a tomato juice, no alcohol though I seemed to need it then more than ever. Last night…mid kiss, the jackass pulls away. What the hell was his deal? He seemed into me. Whatever, it was what it was. I mean, we certainly weren’t in a relationship.
I met the girls at a table in the corner.
“Holy hell, how much did we drink?” Juls said. “And what is wrong with you, Sam. We are hung the hell over and you are glowing.”
I glanced down at my arms; they were yellowish. “Seriously, Juls. It’s probably jaundice. I’m sure my bilirubin count is astronomical at that moment given that I need a liver transplant.”
Kat giggled; Juls rolled her eyes.
“Do you know how nice it was yesterday?” Juls asked.
“What?”
“Not hearing you while you were with Thor talk about your anxieties. Your illnesses.”
When she mentioned him, my heart picked up its pace.
“Shut up,” I said, my hand covering my heart. “Your smart ass mouth just made my heart race,” I joked.
“SEE!” she shouted.
Kat laughed out loud shaking her head.
“What happened with Cody?” I asked, sitting next to her.
After a deep breath, she said, “Nothing happened. We just talked. Especially after Thor threatened to kill him if he touched me.”
I cocked a brow. “Is that what he said? That make you mad?”
“No.” She shook her head. “I know why you had him do it.”
“I didn’t have him do it,” I explained. “He knew I was worried. I think it is hard for me to hide my ANXIETY!” I yelled the last word. “He did it on his own.”
“Yes, but the question is, did he do
you
on his own?” Juls added wiggling her brows.
I dismissed her words. “I don’t think he likes my kiss. My God, I’ve kissed like three guys ever. Doug, Tobin and Bryan.”
“Doug and Tobin were in the ninth grade. They don’t even count.”
“Thank you,” I shot back at Juls.
“What makes you think he doesn’t like it?” Kat asked, touching my hand.
“After we left the pool, we kissed, and it was like my tongue was still in his mouth when he pulled away. I mean. I don’t know really. Bryan and I barely kissed for the last five years of our marriage. Maybe I’ve forgotten.
Juls shrugged. “That’s because Bryan was kissing everyone else.”
“Thank you. Again!”
“Julia!” Kat growled.
“I’m sorry. Ok, kiss me, Sam.”
“What?” I grimaced.
“Kiss me, I’ll tell you if it’s any good.”
“Oh for God’s sake. I am not kissing you.”
Kat covered her face with her hands, laughing so hard she almost fell off the chair. I had no idea what I would catch from Juls’ mouth, and my face twisted into a mess with just the thought.
“Must you contort your face that badly?” Juls asked.
Tomato juice nearly shot out of my nose, and the three of us could no longer control our laughter. This trip was exactly what I needed.

When we got back from breakfast, Thor sat on the stairs outside of my cabin. Jesus. He looked freshly showered with hair still damp and the stubble on his face even more attractive—if that were even possible.
“Ladies.”
“Thor,” both girls said in unison, and I smiled at him though I’m sure my eye roll didn’t go unnoticed.
I felt his low chuckle resonate between my legs; he was still five feet from me.
“What do you girls have on your agenda today?”
Both girls ignored him and went in their cabins.
“Sounds like a full day,” he said, given that no one answered him.
Playfully, I pretended to punch him in the stomach. “Did you have something in mind?”
I took a deep breath. This meant nothing. It was just sex. So go get some.
“Yes. Since we are going to get to know each other so I can get between your legs sooner, I was thinking we could do the water slides.”
“The water slides?” I asked, opening my cabin door. He followed me in grabbed my wrist and gently placed two fingers where my pulse would be.
A slow, shit eating grin slid across his gorgeous face. I jerked my hand away.
“What?” I asked.
“I knew that would make you nervous.”
I stood toe to toe with him and angled my neck up.
“Why wouldn’t I be nervous, Mac? There are probably 10 different bacteria’s in that water. Good thing I brought antibiotics with me.”
His neck angled back with a boom of laughter. Abruptly, he yanked me in for a hug.
“Why does that not surprise me, Sam?”
His fresh shower, soapy smell infiltrated my senses, and I leaned up on my tiptoes brushing a kiss over his neck. His Adam’s apple jutted out with a swallow.
“Look at it this way,” I said, trying to put distance between us, but he secured me against him. “You only have to deal with my issues for nine more days.”
Making eye contact and talking about my fuckedupness was hard. Yet, when I felt him kiss the top of my head, it did calm me down.
“I prefer the word quirkiness,” he said, leaning back and winking.
Resting my forehead against his chest, I wasn’t sure I could hold off on being with this guy much longer. Maybe he sensed what I was feeling, I don’t know. But, he released me, smacked my ass and instructed me to get my swimsuit on.
Mac carried my bag of stuff, and we stopped off at his cabin so he could change into his suit. Once up by the water slides, we found a chair to keep our things in.
“What’s your first question, Sam?” he asked, motioning for me to turn around so he could rub sunscreen on me. Ick! I shuddered. “What was that?” he laughed.
“Another quirk. I hate sunscreen. It’s sticky.”
With pursed lips, he still made me turn. “The alternative is that you are sunburned and then I can’t touch you. Endure,” he teased rubbing the white crap on my back.
He handed me the sunscreen bottle and spun around. Double ick! Now it was going to be on my hands too. I really needed help.
“Bacteria, here we come,” he laughed, taking my sticky hand in his and heading toward the slides. This was really testing me…
Once at the top, I refused to go down the one that went out over the ocean. There was no way in hell.
“Why did you divorce?” he asked out of the blue, flat out surprising me. We were about five turns away from going down.
“Divorce was hard for me. I didn’t want it for the longest time. But he…I…I wasn’t the only woman in his life. And I’m not talking about his mother.” My eyes widened in disbelief that I was even sharing this with him.
“Was it more than once?”
“Yep. And want to know the real kicker? I knew it was happening. I knew that he wasn’t having sex with me, and truth is…I was busy with Jake and distracted with my job, and I guess I looked the other way until I couldn’t any longer.”
