With his free hand, Luka turned Evan’s head, tipping up his chin. He kissed Evan, taking it deep. “We’ve got you,” Alek said tenderly.

For just a second, Evan broke free and called, “Bren.”

“I’m here,” Brennan answered, right by Evan’s side. “Aleksy, turn around. Face the bed and bend over.”

“Oh, fuck yes,” Evan groaned, his voice roughening as Luka stretched him out. Alek shifted around so he was bent over sharply right in front of Evan, his hands braced on the bed. He glanced back over his shoulder, his back bowing in an incredibly sexy curve as two of Brennan’s lubed fingers pressed eagerly through Alek’s hole. Alek let out a heavy exhale and settled into it, letting Brennan stretch him out, getting him ready to take Evan’s cock.

Since Evan had to watch that, couldn’t glance away for a second, Luka began kissing Evan’s ear inside of his lips, scraping it lightly with his teeth, tickling the shell with the tip of his tongue. All the while, his fingers bent and pumped. He fed a third inside, his hand on Evan’s pelvis pulling him back onto the fingers. “That’s it,” Luka coaxed. “Stay nice and open for me.”

Each thrust of Brennan’s fingers into Alek’s ass only made Evan harder. Brennan was caressing Alek everywhere, scratching lightly. It was definitely turning Alek on. His breathing had gotten heavier, his skin flushed and covered with those faint scratches. Alek reached for Brennan’s cock, stroking it with one hand. It made Brennan growl a little. He shifted around to give Alek more access and began fingering him even harder. “God, I want to fuck you,” Brennan groaned.

“After,” Alek promised. “Let me hear you give it to Luka first. Don’t stretch him out; just make him take it, nice and slow. It makes him hard.”

Luka moaned, exhaling a hot breath against Evan’s neck.

“You want it?” Evan asked quietly.

“Yeah,” Luka said with more than a little ache.

“Is that how Aleksy fucks you?”

Luka grunted in reply.

Brennan pulled his fingers free. Instead of focusing only on Alek, he caressed over all of them—Evan and Luka too—like he was guiding them together, skin against skin against skin. Luka angled Evan’s cock down to Alek’s hole and started to feed Alek Evan’s cock. Alek grimaced. Evan moaned wildly, relaxing into it, letting Luka take control, loving the freefall of it. He reached for Brennan’s hand, weaving their fingers together.

“We’ve got you,” Brennan told him.

“Oh god,” Evan cried.

There was pressure and he let out a guttural sound as Luka entered him, giving him just enough pain as he worked deeper to get Evan going. There was a little twinge in his bad side, too, like an echo of all of the regrettable things that had happened, inescapable. Inside Alek, gripping Luka, Evan palmed his scar.

“Just breathe, it’ll fade back,” Luka promised, taking care just as he’d always done. His hand overlaid Evan’s, his thumb caressing the raised line of where the knife had plunged through.

The twinge sharpened, then bled out, trickling into the pleasure, blending with it. Evan felt so contained, wrapped in them, and said, “I love you so much. All of you.” Emotion broke the words. Brennan leaned in to kiss Evan full on the mouth, just for a moment.

When Luka was fully seated, Evan’s breathing had gotten much heavier. The pressure in his ass was hard to think past as Luka rode him shallowly.

Brennan moved behind Luka, where Evan couldn’t see him. Luka leaned into Evan, bending him slightly more over Alek’s back, widening his stance quite a bit to lower himself for Brennan. Luka cried out, growling through gritted teeth and kept moving in shallow pushes, but Evan could feel his trembling. It provoked Evan’s more nurturing instincts, so he reached back to caress the side of Luka’s face and through his long, soft hair. Luka’s mouth brushed against Evan’s jaw, his cries sharpening, gaining an edge as Brennan worked into him.

They were all together, as they should always be. As Evan played with Luka’s hair, rocked into by Luka, who pushed him into Alek, Evan’s body was caressed by unseen hands. He reached to overlay Brennan’s hand on Evan’s pelvis with his own. The fingers gripped and Brennan thrust into Luka, pushing him into Evan. The connections were all that mattered. They held them together, brought them closer.

When Luka pulled Evan back again, out of Alek, Evan went, feeling Luka tug out of him as he pulled out a little from Alek. The momentum carried. Without any effort at all, they were in sync. Evan rubbed up Alek’s spine to the back of his neck, watching him jerk off, catching his eye from over Alek’s shoulder.

There was power there, even over someone as strong and capable as Alek. It was invigorating. But, there was understanding, too, and so much love. The fear was gone and anything seemed possible.

They kept moving, together, chasing release, stimulated and stimulating. Each push moved them all. No one was separate. To feel that, the actuality of how well they could work as one when they all stopped trying and just were, was more beautiful than Evan could convey. The swell of contentment in his heart was the opposite of loneliness. The void that had defined his identity for so long was filled.

“I love this,” Evan breathed.

Alek found his hand and held it, telling him, “You’re safe now.”

“Bren, don’t stop,” Luka begged.

“Never,” Brennan moaned, going harder, making Luka yell, gripping Evan tighter and taking him with driving thrusts.

“Oh fuck, please,” Luka cried, his voice catching on a sob.

Evan teared up, holding Alek’s hand and holding Luka, too, while Brennan’s hand wrapped his hip, possessively. They all kept moving, touching and loving, just breathing. He glanced back, saw his other half, the rest of him, and how much peace was in his twin’s face, the kind that couldn’t be faked or earned through any other way than unconditional love and unquestioned devotion. It helped something tight loosen in Evan’s heart. The more he let go, the more it felt like he could happily get lost there in them, consumed and reborn as something glorious. A whisper of ache remained, beauty’s necessary flaw and life’s hard-fought lesson. In the end, Evan knew his scars didn’t matter, because he was so very loved, and loved so powerfully in return.

Author’s Notes

The reason I wrote this novel was to understand Evan and Brennan even better than I had in the first two books of the
Twin Ties
series. Whereas the focus of those two books was to figure out how their relationship with each other, as well as with Alek and Luka, would resolve, this story needed to dig in to who they were before the start of
My Brother’s Lover
and why. The incentive for doing this was the same concept that lives at the heart of this entire series: When someone crosses the incredibly taboo line of committing incest there are complex motivations behind it.

For me the foursome’s journey isn’t complete until you’ve experienced this part of it. The tenuous peace at the end of book two is solidified here with a more concrete foundation for their new life together. Much has been left behind, and most of what they have to sustain them now is new and somewhat uncertain. Older and hopefully wiser, Alek and Luka are forced to step up and support their young lovers in ways that test every decision they’ve made together, and Evan and Brennan get to show who they really are, deep down where dark secrets lie.

I wrote detailed interludes between thirteen-year-old Evan and Drew back when I was working on the second book in the series, in order to understand the nature of those experiences from Evan’s point of view and the ways they would impact the development of his personality in the future. Excerpted parts of those interludes appear in this book, but what exists is even more extensive than what is shown here. Those encounters aren’t pretty, but they are an essential part of Evan, so they’re as valuable as the rest. Sometimes, it’s precisely the things we desperately hesitate to share that best define us. It takes a lot of hard-earned trust to set those things free, lest they come back around to hurt us again. Drew is just one part of Evan’s dark history. More will be explored in future installments to the series.

And then there is Brennan, who always needed to come through for Maggie and keep up appearances for his own peace of mind, to believe he had more to hold onto in his life other than the mother he knew he was losing. There is a quiet, brave desperation in him that needed exploring and honoring. He’s been tested in ways Evan, Alek and Luka never had to endure, alone both in nursing the last, dying member of his known family and in a lengthy relationship with a dangerous young man whose claws have sank deeply into Brennan. Brennan’s journey in
Double Heat
is my testament to his strength and willingness to put himself in harm’s way for the sake of those he loves. It also showcases his tendency to view things through rose-colored glasses, ignoring blatant warning signs that might even be right in front of him.

There are moments in this book—particularly the night of the campout and Brennan’s conversations with Maggie’s spirit—that caused me to fall in love with Brennan all over again. They helped me see that I’ve only just begun to understand how very much he loves Evan.

I had a lot of fun writing this, letting the sweetness of the boys’ bonds balance out the deep dark past. Their journey is not over yet. At least one short prequel is on the way and I’m currently working on book four, which I’m hoping will give further insight into Alek and Luka. Thank you for reading and sharing the boys with me. There have been special challenges with this series in continuing to make it available in all formats and from all vendors, due to its spicy content and the ever-changing, devilish whims of censorship. I appreciate every reader who has gone out of their way to track down the books. Most of all, I am truly grateful for all of the folks at Fantastic Fiction Publishing for doing everything they can to get these stories into your hands, no matter what. Please support them and everyone one else fighting for the right to free speech for authors and artists. For my part, I’ll keep writing as long as there’s a juicy story to tell.
