Bellos listened
, and stared, into the vast timeless beauty before him. “I do.”

“My friend, understand me. You may not
, and must not, ever try to explain your experience here today. At no time, will anyone understand or accept what you say, and more importantly, there is a penalty associated with this code violation. However; you will have long life and a destiny of greatness ahead, as well as the wherewithal befitting a Great Grand Master. If there is any circumstance of illness, regarding your person, I will see to it that you stay well until that time your species finds a cure.”

“I understand.”

Bellos remained floating, in trancelike state of learning, for an indeterminable time. Then, something disturbed his concentration. He noticed that, in the upper right quadrant, a tiny white vortex appeared and grew. Slowly, it began to consume everything, and sucked Bellos toward it. As he accelerated and got closer, the bright light overwhelmed him. He covered his face and flinched; turning away; closing his eyes tightly; just as he shot into it. A rush of wind swirled around him; and then, everything stopped; complete silence. He sensed, he was standing, firmly balanced. Involuntarily, he wiped his blinking eyes and focused on the glowing, wet looking, transparent figure before him. Definitely humanoid, it was well proportioned and over twelve feet tall. It bowed, seemed to smile and offered his outstretched arms in welcome. He began speaking in the strange sounding language of the Carriers. Bellos knelt, listened; and, he understood every word.

“By your receiving and acknowledging all we have given
to you; and, by the authority of our council and our treaty codes; I proclaim you Great Grand Master-GGM-010 over all the Ever-Life colonies. May you reign with honor, peace and wisdom; and, never forget; life is a gift, Treasure it. Be the scholar, teacher and kindly mind of conscience. Know; in behalf of those who do not. Guide them, with the strength and power of Ever-Life.”

Bellos’s eyes fixed in disbelief and, involuntarily, he began to weep. As he did so, the new GGM felt an ever so slight tugging sensation. I
t was just one or two seconds. When he blinked, he was astonished. He was kneeling beside the podium, from where he started. The beast was gone. He looked out at the crowd and stood up, with tears in his eyes. Swanson put his hand on Bellos’s shoulder, turned with a smile and spoke to the crowd, “I give you our Great Grand Master, Mathew J. Bellos.”

After a few seconds
, to reorient himself, Bellos shook Swanson’s hand and whispered, “Quite a moment, Gordon.”

“I know; congratulations.  It is a new beginning, a new understanding, a new life for you my boy. Now say something to your people.”

Swanson stepped off the podium and sat next to Carla. Bellos raised his arms to quiet the crowd.

“I am honored today
, by this appointment, and by your trust. I will serve and continue, in the traditions of those I follow, to bring harmony, peace and better health, to us all. Thank you for your display of respect and confidence…Long life and good health to us all…Ever-Life, everywhere!”

The crowd stood up
applauding and shouting. Bellos’s Father, Dr. Richard, Carla, Angie, Jack and Rachel joined him on stage. Swanson moved to the podium, raised his arms, to quiet the people, and then shouted, “Let the celebration continue!”

Over the next few hours, the ledge’s field filled with dance, food and a great party atmosphere. The floating monitors displayed various entertainments
, while small Carriers delivered limitless amounts of food and drink; none of which; came from the surface. Eventually, the crowd tired and dispersed. Special Carriers picked up garbage or waste products for disposition. Some disintegrated the unusable waste. Others recycled waste to underground power structures, or for distribution to organic compounds throughout the Post.

As Swanson, the Bellos’s and Sheldon’s walked across the field
back to their suites, the new GGM shook his head and remarked, “Well, Gordon, you have replaced this job by doing two more; but I’ll always think of you as my GGM.”

Swanson chuckled a bit. “My boy, I am already forgetting
; and, it feels quite good, actually. For me, two jobs are better than one, now.”

Suddenly
, behind them, they heard an explosion from the depths, under the field. It was accompanied by a blinding bright light all around the great chasm. Bellos reacted just as a GGM should. While everyone else held their ears and crouched, he pressed his Knofer, clicking it into defense mode. An aura surrounded the group with an impenetrable shield, and he ran to the edge of the ledge. Swanson, Jack and Richard followed. Bellos stared into the abyss and then turned to Swanson.

“This can’t be good…Dad, get the women inside.”

Dr. Richard, Rachel, Carla and Angie began to run to the sidewall entrance. Bellos, Jack and Swanson stood watching. From the darkness below, a huge Carrier emerged. The noise was deafening to anyone within hearing distance.

“I didn’t invit
e this one,” Swanson murmured.

A
magnificent, glowing, creature soared up the tunnel and stopped, right next to the three men.

“Christ
, Gordon, it looks almost albino; a sparkling, raging, loud albino. Have you ever seen anything like this?”

“Not during my tenure.”

The Carrier began to speak, “I am he, who has come from the past and future, to make right the fowl stench of those you call brother and friend. You have no right, to what has been given you, or the life changing abilities you spread like the virus you are.”

The Carrier seemed to stare at Jack
, in particular. Then, it began to spin again; and, in an instant, its head became its tails, flailing tentacles all around them. With a loud rush of air, the tentacles quickly entwined like a rope pointing strait up; and the creature zoomed back down into the Earth. The three men stood frozen, feeling the wind, and watching a bluish white light shrink, into blackness.

“I don’t think he likes me,” said Jack.

“Great… My first day…”

Swanson raised an eyebrow,
“Well, here we go.”

Bellos sighed
, as he straightened up and pushed his Knofer off defense.

“Let’s get to work.”

Four master guards rushed toward the group; and, Jack turned toward them.

“Too little too late; wouldn’t you say, fellas?”

The GGM gestured them to stop.

“It’s all right,
men; we are fine. Sgt. Parker, right? Arrange for the Sheldon’s to get back up to Andrews.”

There was another click on Bellos’s Knofer. It was Carrier Unit 62712’s mind
, linking into the GGM. It input the latest information, regarding issues and locations of all known Carriers. Bellos didn’t even blink.

“Gordon, you brief Jake…No time to waste…We have to finish transferring those Time Trust records
, to Brock/Swanson building 26. I want a ‘virtual’ meeting with Post Controllers, in an hour. Keep in touch.”

“Yes Sir.”

Swanson leaned in toward Bellos and whispered, “Interesting isn’t it; how it all comes to you?”

Bellos smiled, turned and walked with the four guards back into the Ever-Life Complex. Swanson climbed into a small bubble Carrier and disappeared down into the chasm.

Chapter 5

An Unexpected Guest

Sometime after the ceremony, Jack and Rachel Sheldon boarded a small Carrier-Bubble, back to Andrews Hospital.  Jack sat on the cushioned bench seat and looked out, through the transparent wall, as the Bubble began to move.

“Why is it, every time I ride in one of these; and, thank heaven it’s rare; I always get the feeling I’m going to fall out?”

Rachel held onto his arm.

“Well, Babe, one thing for sure; we will never see anything like that again. Matt was changed, literally, changed.”

“Not in our lifetime; but we have been witnesses to stranger things. We have a lot to reflect on.”

Rachel snuggled into him and they seemed content to stare and think. Jack put his arm around her and squeezed her close, assuring her in a private moment of love.

The Carrier moved toward the north side wall of the chasm, accelerating.

“Sorry; I get tense, when these things melt into the bedrock.”  Rachel closed her eyes as the bubble penetrated the rock face. “Are we cutting now?”

Jack watched mesmerized.

“Yes; amazing, it’s completely silent. You can see the rock dissolve all around us. Look at it.”

Rachel opened her eyes and they both stared at the burning orange colors.

“Jack; that’s  different; this thing is cooling? It’s getting pitch black out there.”

“You’re right; do you feel that? We are slowing down.”

Neither of them noticed that someone appeared and stood, quietly, behind them. He was transparent, but clearly a humanoid shape. The stranger spoke calmly, “Excuse me. Yes, we are stopping. I don’t mean to alarm you.”

Jack turned and reacted. “Oh Jesus! What the hell are you?”

He protected Rachel, backing her into one of the bench seats.

“Please; I don’t mean to frighten you. We rarely appear; much less to surface man.”

“You scared the shit out of me-us.”

“Sorry; forgive me. I am here, in behalf of our Council, the Carrier Grand Council. I am a Tyree Master. You need not be afraid.”

He extended his hand; and, after gaining his composer, Jack shook it, apprehensively.

“Council? You don’t look like a Carrier.”

Rachel pinched him.

“Jack, let’s give him a chance.”

“Thank you, Mrs. Sheldon. First; I appear before you like this, so I can fit in here. Actually I am a projection, of sorts. We thought you would relate better and feel more comfortable with a familiar image.”

Jack was still holding his hand.

“You feel solid. How is that possible?”

The Stranger smiled and replied, “Well, it is my understanding that you two have some familiarity with the impossible, given your experience with C.P.T.”

Jack sat down on the bench with Rachel again, and the Stranger continued, “I am normally much taller, and, a little more, glowing, you might say. We have the technology to do different things; subjects for another time.”

“So, you are here, because of the event at the ceremony?”

“Yes and no; before we can approach anyone of the surface, we must have permission from your GGM. I am here with the approval of all parties.”

“Hell if I know what that means.”

“Jack, slow down…Go on.”

“Thank you.”

He sat down, facing the couple.

“To begin with, your transport has stopped, to enable complete privacy. We are insulated, by rock for miles all around us. I have come to discuss a very private matter…Mrs. Sheldon, while you are within the colonies, we monitor all communications of any surface being. I do apologize; but it is our policy. Frankly, we prohibit surface man down here. We do not trust his presence.”

“Why, for heaven’s sake?”

“Because, over the years, you have evolved differently; you react with violent fear, most of the time. You have killed many of your own over the eons, intentionally; not to mention the people from here you’ve butchered. You two, and your family, have been allowed here, at the request of the GGM. That is a great honor, and makes you trustworthy.”

“Okay, so what is this about? What do you want?”

“Your question; your conversation, before the ceremony…”

“That was private!”

“Yes, and it would have been, had the occurrence not taken place.”

“You mean at the ceremony…?”

“Jack, wait.” Rachel sat up and stared at the Stranger. “What occurrence?”

“I see, I tweaked your interest.”

“You are not talking about here, down here; are you?”

“What are you saying, Rach? What is this?’

“Doctor, we have been monitoring your work, for a very long time; since before you were at Andrews. You have quite a brilliant mind; and, we respect your evaluations and discoveries; particularly C.P.T…. And; now your latest involvement with particle; particle something; or is it ‘organic micro biology’?”

“I never used those terms. How do you know about that, and why does it interest you?”

Rachel took a deep breath, “Stop it Jack. Do you mean Jack’s notes on particle displacement?”

“Mrs. Sheldon, you have read the treatise?”

Rachel looked at Jack.

“Yes, I read some of it.”

Jack interrupted, “Now tell us what is going on.”

“You are aware of the Sidron findings?”

Jack paused and thought a moment.

“Sidron? Jack, what is he talking about?”

“Sidron; Sidron; my, my; yes…

…Honey, when science discovered what they thought was the God particle, religious leaders and medical science joined physicists, in the investigation; to finally prove the so called ‘big bang’; you know?”
