Completely devastated, she spent the rest of the night sitting at the table alone while Jake took pictures with people. , Jake?” She unzipped her dress, tore it off and tossed it on the ground. “What was I supposed to do? Ignore all of them? That would have been rude.”

She stalked off to her bathroom and started undoing her hair. He watched as her blonde locks fell past her shoulders and framed her face.

“How could you even think I would be interested in anyone else? Look at you.”

That caused him to lose it. “What the fuck is wrong with you?” He knew he needed to take a more sensitive approach but he couldn’t, it took all the energy in his body not to throw her up against the wall and shake some sense into her. “I’m not going anywhere so you can deal with it.”

She went to push him once again but he stopped her, pulling her closer. She tried to get out of his grip and strike his chest with her tiny fists but he wouldn’t let up. “Let go of me you son of a bitch.”

“Not until you tell me why you’re trying to leave me.”

“I don’t want
to leave you.” She screamed as a tear fell from her face. Jake was so confused he didn’t know what to do. She wiggled out of his grasp and flung herself on her bed, burying her head in her pillows. t going to work Jake, us, we’re not going to work.”

Jake tried to control the anger boiling deep in his stomach. “Why’s that?”

“I can’t do a long distance relationship especially since women will be throwing themselves at you all the time. It’s just not going to work.”

Jake ran his hand over his face. “Who said anything about a long distance relationship?”

“Jake, what are the odds you would be drafted by the San Diego Thunder? Slim to none.”

“I know that.”

He watched her eyes produce more tears. “See, I knew I was right.”
