“Okay, okay,
but how was he able then to convince the boy to come to Fairyland?”
asked Farrah, although she feared the next words out of Picolotto’s
mouth.

“Farrah, he
messed up the teleportation spell. He forgot to close the door
behind him, and the boy followed him into the closet. Not because
he wanted to go with Pido, but because the klutz had forgotten to
leave him a reward for his tooth. Before Pido discovered that the
human had entered the closet, they were teleported directly to
Fairyland.”

“So you’re
saying that the boy was not convinced at all?” asked Farrah,
sounding quite saddened.

“I’m afraid
so, my dear.”

“Why didn’t
the boy ever say anything?”

“He couldn’t.
You see, when a human decides to step foot on Fairyland’s soil, all
memory of the previous life on earth disappears. From that moment
on, he or she is a fairy of Fairyland.”

“Outrageous,”
reacted Farrah, as she laid back on the bed, feeling a little
weak.

“Farrah, there
is one last thing that I feel I should to tell you,” said
Picolotto, sounding reluctant.

Farrah sat
back up anxiously in the bed. Although, she was angered by what
Picolotto had said, she still held some hope.

Picolotto
pushed his face in closer. He took a deep breath before he spoke in
as soft a voice as he could.

“My dear, the
boy that snuck into the closet was your father.”

Picolotto’s
words knocked Farrah backwards onto the bed. She stared blankly at
the ceiling.

“What are you
saying?” Shouted Farrah, as the Veddo slipped out of her hands and
dropped to the floor. She quickly hopped out of the bed to retrieve
it, thankful that it was not broken.

“The boy that
followed Pido to Fairyland was your father.”

“What are you
talking about, Picolotto? You must have your facts mixed up. I have
met my great- grandmother, remember - the inventor of cereal. If my
Father wasn’t born in Fairyland, then how could my great-
grandmother have existed in Fairyland?”

“It’s simple,
Farrah. She isn’t really your great- grandmother. You see at that
time, another fairy of Fairyland - Couraggio Fancycracker, had died
suddenly of a brain attack. At that very moment, your father
entered the body of the deceased. To the Fancycracker family,
Couraggio survived.”

“This is
getting way too weird, Picolotto. You are telling me that my father
was previously human and that he took on the form of Couraggio
Fancycracker, who was a fairy that really existed on
Fairyland?”

Picolotto
looked adoringly into Farrah’s eyes.

“I promise
you, Farrah, I speak the truth.”

Farrah didn’t
know whether to throw something in anger or to collapse to the
ground and cry. She felt betrayed, as if her entire life was all a
big sham. She felt as if she didn’t exist. As if, she was an
imposter, impersonating a fairy. Lying on the bed again, she held
up the Veddo above her face.

“Why didn’t
you tell me about my father?” asked Farrah sternly as she shook the
Veddo back and forth, teary-eyed.

“I couldn’t,
Farrah, it is part of the code. It is for a fairy’s own protection.
The fear is that those fairies that are of pure blood would treat
them differently. It is already hard enough for a fairy without the
ability to fly.”

Picolotto had
not intended to reveal that last detail, but it was already too
late.

“Without the
ability to fly? Are you telling me that all Ordinaria are descended
from humans?” asked Farrah in a panic, not able to sit on the bed
any longer.

“Sometimes you
are too smart for your own good, Farrah,” said Picolotto with his
most serious tone as he wiped some sweat from his brow.

“Yeah, that’s
exactly what I’m saying, Farrah. Some think of it as a curse that
is placed on a human for leaving earth, you know, so that they will
never truly be a fairy.”

Although
somewhat outraged by Picolotto’s insulting comment, something else
dawned on Farrah that forced her to take a seat on the ground.

“It all makes
sense now.”

“What are you
talking about, Farrah?”

Picolotto had
to repeat the question a second time before she answered. When she
did, it was a response of broken thought, much like someone having
an epiphany.

“The King and
his stupid law that Tooth Fairies couldn’t perform magic when in
the presence of a human. He knew that this would make it virtually
impossible to convince human boys and girls of our existence in
Fairyland.”

“What are you
saying, Farrah?” Asked Picolotto much more sternly this time.

“Don’t you
see, Picolotto? The King didn’t want anymore Ordinaria inhabiting
Fairyland.”

Farrah pulled
away from Picolotto, walking away as she continued to talk to no
one in particular.

“The King has
always treated us Ordinaria like the scum of Fairyland. It was
always about Superiora this and Superiora that. Only the Superiora
can handle the important jobs, only the Superiora have the talents
needed to achieve greatness. He truly thought of us flightless
Ordinaria Fairies as a disease. The curse that would befall a Tooth
Fairy if they revealed their magic ability to a human was the
perfect deterrent. No humans would believe in Fairyland, yet alone
want to come and live here, which is just what the King
wanted.”

Feeling a
strong urge to flee, Farrah threw on her clothes that were lying in
a pile on the floor and grabbed her purse.

“Farrah what
are you doing?” questioned Picolotto, speaking much more loudly
this time.

Deciding to
ignore him, Farrah threw the Veddo back into her purse.

“Farrah, I
don’t think it’s a good idea to leave the hospital. You are still
very weak and you can’t be acting rationally right now after all
you’ve just learned,” said a muffled sounding Picolotto.

Farrah opened
up the window in her room, took a deep breath and jumped. She
flapped her wings frantically. This seemed to do nothing as she
crashed to the ground. Picking herself up, she opened up her purse
to get some Molar dust. Picolotto continued to yell.

“Farrah,
Farrah, please, you don’t know what you are doing!”

She took a
pinch of dust and closed up her purse quickly. She put some dust on
her lips and she whistled. Not too long after, Bella came from out
of the sky. Without a word, Farrah climbed on her back and heeled
her gently to get her going.

Farrah did not
have a destination in mind. All she knew was that she had to get
away. Eventually, she decided on Mount Michelutz, which always
served as a safe haven for her in times of need.

Bella ducked
down low to let Farrah off. When she did, she walked to the edge of
the mountain and sat down. She could see just one Securo Fairy
guarding the cave. Although it appeared as if the Securo Fairy had
spotted Farrah, she didn’t care. All she could think at that moment
was that her life was a big joke. As the moonlight danced off her
head, she grasped her knees tightly to her body, and she sobbed
through the night.

Chapter 43
: A Little Help

Farrah woke
early the next morning. Although she knew that she had a lot to
discuss with her parents, at that moment she wanted nothing more
than to avoid them. Instead, she snuck out early to head out to her
mountain of solitude. Still numb from all the thoughts in her head,
she laid flat on her back looking up at the sun. The orange glow of
the sun encompassed her entire face. For a second, she forgot about
the previous night, but when she remembered the conversation with
Picolotto, she became upset all over again. Farrah was so overcome
with sadness that for a moment, she thought about launching herself
over the side of the cliff. She just might have if not for a
dust-cloud that exploded above her head, startling her.

“What the…”
shouted Farrah.

When she
turned around, she saw Giuseppi standing behind her. He was
carrying a large sack and was walking slowly toward her with a grin
on his face.

“Sorry,
Farrah, I was just fooling around.”

“So that is
what those Forest Fairies taught you,” mocked Farrah as she brushed
the dust from her hair.

“How did you
find me?” asked Farrah as she stood up.

“When I went
to the hospital this morning to visit you, I discovered that you
were gone. I took a chance that you would be here,” responded
Giuseppi, as he placed the sack carefully on the ground.

“Good guess,”
said Farrah as she gazed at the green sack, unable to take her eyes
off of it.

“Why did you
leave the hospital?” asked Giuseppi as he took a seat on the
ground.

Farrah joined
him. Although she wasn’t sure at first, she decided to tell
Giuseppi everything that Picolotto had told him. She thought it
best that someone else knew. Plus she had never kept a secret from
Giuseppi before. After telling Giuseppi the story, he seemed just
as shocked as Farrah was. Giuseppi fidgeted nervously as he played
with a stone on the ground. He was having a hard time processing
everything that he had just heard. It took a while for Giuseppi to
speak as he waited for the throbbing to disappear.

So
all
Ordinaria
were once human?”

“Yes, or at
least that’s what Picolotto told me,” responded Farrah as she
clasped him on the back.

“That means
that my background is also descended from a human from Earth.”

“Yes,” Farrah
answered, beginning to feel a little better now that she was not
alone to deal with her emotions.

Giuseppi stood
up to his feet, anger now coursing through his veins.

“I can’t
believe the King would do such a thing. Now look at what’s
happened? Fairyland has been nearly wiped out and all because of
his superiority complex. If he would have just allowed more humans
to make the voyage to Fairyland, we wouldn’t be in this
crisis.”

“I know,
Giuseppi,” responded Farrah, as she placed her hand on his
shoulder, trying unsuccessfully to calm him down.

“I don’t know
how you can be so calm, Farrah. We have been royally deceived and
now I find out that my life has been a joke?”

Giuseppi
collapsed to the ground and quickly wiped away some tears, not
wanting Farrah to see how emotional he was. Farrah thought it best
to let him be for a while, taking a seat quietly beside him.

“What are you
going to do, Farrah?” Asked Giuseppi, half hoping that she had some
sort of spectacular plan to save Fairyland.

Farrah stood
up and looked off into the horizon. She didn’t want to look at
Giuseppi, out of fear that he would laugh.

“I’m going to
convince one thousand humans of our existence and get them to come
over to Fairyland.”

Giuseppi stood
up and walked over to Farrah. She still wouldn’t look at him, so he
grabbed her by the shoulder to get her to look.

How are
you going to do
that?”

Farrah stood
tall at the edge of the mountain in plain view of the Securo Fairy
down below. What Farrah didn’t know was that she was also in plain
sight of Samantha, who had followed Giuseppi to the mountain. She
was crouched behind a bush, hardly able to contain her
excitement.

“Curse or no
curse, I will reveal my magic ability to human boys and girls,
convincing them of the existence of Fairyland.”

Samantha
stared at the two fairies as they both mounted Bella and took off.
She was already piecing together the details of her most devious
plan yet.

“I must honour
the King’s wishes. No more useless humans will ever step foot on
Fairyland ever again,” Samantha whispered to herself.

Chapter 44
: A Time…

Farrah woke up
early again the next morning. Still not wanting to broach the
subject about her crooked heritage, she tiptoed down the stairs and
out the front door. Although determined to follow through with her
new plan of convincing human boys and girls of Fairyland’s
existence, she thought it best to get some information from the
Queen about the King’s curse first.

It didn’t take
long for Farrah to reach the fringe of the forest to the castle. It
had moved within five blocks of the mountain, making it easy to
spot. Farrah approached the Queen’s castle with cautious
determination as she strutted into the great hall. She was
surprised to see that the Queen was not there to greet her as she
usually did. Hoping that she was in her room, Farrah walked up the
spiral staircase, which had thankfully been repaired. She rapped
lightly on the door to the Queen’s chamber. When there was no
response, Farrah decided to go in. She slowly opened the door, not
wanting to startle the Queen just in case she was sleeping.

At first,
Farrah didn’t see any sign of the Queen. A loud, deep snore then
shook the room, causing Farrah to jump. The Queen was sleeping in
her massive bed, buried under a pile of blankets.

Farrah tiptoed
quietly to the side of her bed. She leaned into the Queen’s face
and blew on her nose to get her to wake up. At first, the Queen
swatted at the air as if a Honker had landed on her nose and was
trying to get at her boogers. When she finally awoke, she was
startled to see a fairy standing over her. Afraid, she
instinctively pulled the covers over her head.

“Who’s there?”
She asked, sounding frightened.

“It’s me,
Farrah.”

“Farrah, what
are you doing here?” The Queen asked as she pulled the covers down
from her face.

“Sorry to
startle you, my Queen, but I have a plan and I need your help.”

“I hope you’re
not wasting your time, Farrah. You should be planning for your new
life on earth,” said the Queen as she got out of bed and put on a
fancy looking robe with long pink feathers at the collar and
sleeves.
