‘Do you realise that if I hadn’t caught glandular fever we would never have met. At the time it felt like a disaster. And now I think it’s the best thing that … Oh! Look who’s come to see us!’
‘Oh hell - Giovana.’ Rafe sat up and reached for a towel. But it was only the little grey cat, mewing and purring jealously around his legs, demanding attention. Idly he leaned down and tickled the little animal under the chin. Suddenly a butterfly danced by and the cat, distracted, left him and chased after it.
‘Rafe – darling …’ It was time to break this enchanted spell and get into practice for wifely duties.
‘Mmm?’ he murmured as Ellie clambered up on to her knees and moulded her slender body to the curve of his back.
‘Don’t you think we ought to put some clothes on? … My darling, you’ve got work to do.’
