Manhattan
Liqueur Spirit + Vermouth or Aromatic Liqueur + Bitters

Originally mixed from rye, sweet vermouth, and bitters, the Manhattan is now more commonly made with bourbon rather than rye, although my preference remains with the original whiskey. It is considered by many to be the definitive cocktail for its streamlined simplicity and flavorful balance. In many of the recipes given here, the vermouth is amended or replaced by an aromatic liqueur.
