“Why the hell would I be angry with you? I don’t care all that much about you. It’s—it was fun when we dated but we don’t really have any real feelings for each other, so it’s great. I’m glad that Amor came back into your life. I’m happy for you, but really…that’s all I feel.”
“Do you?”
“Oh, for God’s sake!” She jumped off the rock and landed on her feet. “I need to head home.”
He grabbed her arm as she attempted to march past him. “We need to talk.”
“I’ve nothing to say to you.”
He wasn’t deterred by her temper or her rudeness because underneath it was the hurt he caused her. Maybe she didn’t love him, and if that was true, he would have to swallow the agony of it. But he could tell now she wasn’t as immune to this situation as he thought before. “I don’t love Amor. I never did. At least, I never loved her the way…Not like how I love you

“You don’t love her?”
“I don’t. She cheated on me. We broke up and I left. You’ve got to believe me, Paige. She never meant to me as much as you mean to me.”
“But—”
“It’s my fault you misunderstood the situation. I should’ve told you from the first moment I was deeply, irrevocably in love with you.” Now that the words tumbled out, he couldn’t control them. Even if she rejected him, he wanted her to know how he felt. “What I felt for Amor a long time ago was nothing. It wasn’t even a fraction of the love that wells in my heart for you. You’re the one, and if you don’t want me then…I’ll go away and I’ll survive, but I won’t ever be able to live right…or love anyone again.” He’d never bared his soul for another woman before. In a way, it was cathartic to say those things.
Her eyes widened in surprise when she heard his words.
He wasn’t sure how she would respond. After all, he didn’t know if she felt the same way.
But for him, this was it.
Paige was it.
He needed to know what she felt, and whatever her decision was…he would accept it. He would have to. The fate of their relationship was in her hands now and he couldn’t wait to hear what she had to say.
“You love me?”
“More than words can even express.”
“And Amor?”
He shrugged. “She told me she was going back. I bet she left already. I mean…she understood we’re not right for each other.”
For a few seconds, they both stared at each other. His heart was in his mouth.
What would she say?
What would she do?
“Lando, I—”
He grabbed her hand and kissed it. “If you’re not ready for my love, then it is okay. I’ll wait. I can give you as much time as you want. We’ll go out on dates and we’ll spend time together, then you’ll get to know me better. Give it—give us a chance, at least. You matter. You matter a lot, Paige and I want to do this right.”
“But—”
“There are no ifs, ands or buts. This is it for me. You’re it. When I came here, I never thought the last of the Westbury sisters would knock me down like a ton of bricks and turn my life upside down. But you know what,

?”
A startled expression crossed her face. “Don’t you dare call me
amor
, you hear me?”
He saw the mischievous expression on her face and he threw his head back and laughed. She was kidding around with him, but he made a silent vow he would never call her by that name again. “You know what,
mi querida
? I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I’m delighted to have you with me. When you were gone, I nearly fell apart.” He raised her hand to his lips once more. Her fingers trembled. “I’m glad you’re safe. You’ve made me realize there was something amazing missing from my life before. Love. I wasn’t ready for it, but I am now. Whatever time you need to make up your mind, I can give it to you. There’s no hurry.”
“I feel—”
“I understand we barely know each other, and it is too soon, too early, but really…you should not feel pressured. Just because I love you, does not mean you have to feel the same way. You can take your time. We will be like any other couple who gets to know each other over time.”
She put a hand on his lips before he could continue his one sided conversation. “Give me a second here, please.” Paige took a deep breath.
He braced himself.
“I love you too.”
“You love me?”
“No man has ever mattered so much in my life like you. Yeah, I’m nervous as hell. Yeah, I didn’t think I was ready to be in a committed relationship, but after seeing Amor and then the kidnapping, I’ve sorted out my priorities, and this relationship is important to me.”
He tried to make sense of her words. All he heard was she felt the same way. “I love you.”
She kissed him lightly on the lips. “I don’t need any more time to decide anything. You and I, we belong together and that’s just how I feel.”

Paige chuckled. “I’m not sure I know what you just said, but I’m going to tell you this…I. Love. You” She punctuated each word with a kiss. “And yes, that’s how I really feel.”
He swept her into his arms before she had a chance to say anything else. Her lips moved under his with a passion that matched what swirled in his heart.
This was love, true and powerful. It struck him hard and fast and he was powerless. And now that he found her, he never wanted to let her go. She was the right woman for him. She was his. They would be happy together, and that was all that mattered.
This was the beginning of their journey, and he couldn’t wait to ride off into the sunset with her.
