They talked and laughed, and then drank their coffees in silence for quite some time.
“I’m leaving in another week.” Devin started. I have another engagement in London I must see to, but I’m nearly finished with my work here, and I have some time to kill. A week’s worth of time really.” Devin sat quietly for a minute or more while they studied each other. “Would you like to go down to the beach for a walk?
Dahlia looked at him quizzically. It’s a sad fact that no one that lives near the beach ever visits the beach, but he, of course, wasn’t from here.
He smiled warmly at her, and leaned in closer. “It’s not dark yet. It’s a public place. No danger there.”
She smiled, conscious of how paranoid she must seem. “It’s not that. I just haven’t been to the beach in a long time, and I live right here. It’s kind of sad.”
“We tend to take for granted that which is most available. It’s tragic.” He looked at his empty cup. “We could go and watch the sun set over the water, and make a very un-tragic evening of it.” He looked up to meet her eyes. It was more like he was telling her that they were going to go on this outing instead of asking her. Somehow he just knew she would go with him.
Dahlia shook her head at herself and laughed a little. “Why not?”
“I’m parked in the deck a few blocks over. Do you want me to pick you up?”
“No,” Dahlia replied, draining the last of her coffee. “We can walk.”
Chapter 2
They parked just beyond the board walk, and Dahlia shed her sandals at the car. He had a blanket in the trunk, and they carried the flapping blanket down onto the sand. The sky was red and purple with the haze of rain clouds looming, and the sea was turning dark grey in the fading light. They laid out the blanket and sat, side by side, watching the light fade.
Dahlia’s hair was now completely unbound and blew wildly in the freedom of the breeze.
Devin turned to face her on the blanket and lightly touched her chin, as if asking her to look him in the eye. “You are stunning,” He said sincerely.
Dahlia immediately turned her head to avert her eyes. It was too much.
“Ah, you don’t believe that’s true.” He said reaching for her cheek with his hand.
“No, it’s just, this is weird.” She said still trying to avoid eye contact.
“Look me in the eye.” He said, now almost a commandment.
Dahlia stopped squirming and did as she was told.
“Everything about you is captivating and lovely. Your soul is beautiful and it hurts me to see you hide yourself. I want you to love yourself like others do. Let me help you do that.”
Dahlia had little tears flooding her eyes and she looked up hard at the sky, denying them the right to fall. “And what?” She said, almost angry, but still not sure how she felt. “Here we are now. In a week you’re gone. What benevolent gesture are you planning to offer in order to convert me into a movie star who strikes the whole world as this free and flowering woman?” She snapped at him, but it smacked more of despair than venom. “I’m not an old maid. What are you trying to get me to do?”
“I’ll show you.” He said softly stroking her hair back from her face. “A cliché perhaps, but a truth no less.”
He pulled her hair back from her wet face and away from her shoulders where he kissed her so softly that Dahlia thought she would melt away. Soft, warm, wet, and with the tinniest touch of his teeth, he moved up beneath her jaw line, cupping her throat in his big strong hands.
Dahlia didn’t know what to do. Should she moan, resist, move away?
Then, kneeling between her knees, he cupped her face in both hands and pressed his lips to hers. His tongue brushed against hers and removed all thought she had of escape. Regret or not, this was going to happen.
As he kissed her harder, his hands began to wander about her waist line. He brushed her soft sides, and squeezed gently at her breasts. One hand fondled the clasp of her bra, and then she felt the clasp break free as the elastic relaxed its grip on her rib cage and her breasts hung freely beneath her shirt.
His breaths came heavier now as if he were being consumed by a hunger. His touch was harder and stronger as he groped across her body, drinking in the sight of her silhouette in the waning light. He pressed his lips to her bare breasts and tugged lightly at her erect nipples with his fingers, lips, tongue. She was overwhelmed by his presence across her whole body as he pulled her nearer to him with each kiss and stifled gasp of desire.
She had never before been conscious of her smallness, but his arms wrapped so easily around her that she felt tiny beside him. His hands convinced her that she delighted him as his fingers swept lightly down the valley of her back and brushed up and down the arch of her sides.
Beneath her, his entire body was firm and thick. She pressed her hands against his chest and felt his sides, soft skin, and firm flesh beneath. The width of his hips pressed firmly against the insides of her thighs as she knelt across him and she felt her knees making tiny cups in the sand beneath the blanket. She felt like she should try to show all that she knew and could do to entice him. Should she kiss his neck? Touch his face? Passiveness was easier, and required less thought, but it also betrayed her secret, inexperience.
Somehow, her head was working harder than her body as she worried about what he thought of her performance. Did she seem like a natural or a prude? She didn’t want to wait another single moment to truly feel him, but what was the natural next move?
“You’re thinking too hard” he said, slowing his breaths and restraining his obvious longing. “What is there to think about?”
“I don’t know.” Dahlia said a little defensively, pulling away ever so slightly.
“Come here,” he said softly, pulling her down to his chest and brushing her hair over one shoulder. “Just lay on me.”
Dahlia was topless now, and he was completely exposed. His arousal was supremely evident, but her wetness was concealed beneath the skirt that hid her luscious and very ample ass.
Devin tugged at the waist band, and Dahlia moved to stop him.
“It’s alright.” He whispered. He sat up from the blanket where she crouched on all fours above him and moved around to where her skirted ass hovered in the air. Folding back the skirt over her back revealed her soft round hips and large thighs.
Dahlia cringed, but Devin gripped a handful of her soft flesh in each hand and leaned toward the warm wet slit that was longing to be tended. He sucked lightly on her lips and ran his tongue between the folds to the tiny aching bump of her clit. His hands moved from place to place, gripping at her flesh and sliding deep into the recesses of her hold.
Curling, stretching, and probing, his fingers filled her skillfully brushing the inner walls of her dripping pussy. She quivered and shook, straddling his face with her hips and crying out as he massaged her hard clit with his warm wet tongue.
Dahlia was panting now and cooing between the pants as the rhythmic rubbing brought her further out of herself. She tensed. Her whole body froze and her spine bent back in a body wracking contraction. She gasped, panted, moaned and quivered until at last she exhaled and came deeply and fully, on her knees on a blanket, by the beach, with a man she hardly knew.
Devin slid up beside her and kissed her hungrily. She could taste herself on his wet lips, and his tongue piercing into her mouth said without uncertainty that she would have more.
He brought her softness flat against him until she was almost lying on top of him with her knees spread wide across his waste. Long fingers pushed her hair back from her face as he kissed her forehead. He wrapped those long arms around her body and pressed against the small of her back and the top of her hips with one of his hands as he easily lifted his hips and slid himself inside of her with his full length.
Dahlia gasped slightly at the depth of the feeling and closed her eyes, giving herself over completely to the motion. His muscles moved beneath her chest and against her stomach and she pressed back and down against his hips, seeking every inch of union she could achieve. Slowly at first and with deliberate care, they moved together with ever-increasing abandon. As he moved faster, his hips came harder against her and she began to drop against him.
Devin pushed her up from his chest to sit on top of him. With her arms she could help lift herself to control the motion, and she began to drive the rhythm and ask for the impact with her body.
“That a girl.” Devin crooned quietly as she arched her back. He held her with one hand at her waist, with the other he tugged lightly at her pointing pink nipples as they danced up and down with the motion of her breasts. She worked faster and harder against him as he pressed up from the ground to enter her with a wet
smack
driving the two together. Her breath came in pants with the rhythm of their thrusts and she began to moan, softly at first, then louder as each thrust came.
“Slow, slow,” he suddenly pulled her down to himself as she was reaching a fever pitch. He pulled her body down slow and hard, and she could feel his body hunch as he pressed up inside of her. He lifted her up with just the strength of his arms and brought her back down again, slow, and hard like the dramatic climax of a movie wrought with emotion.
Dahlia did not blink. Perhaps she did not even breathe as he bore down against her deepest recesses and clutched her body against his as if he needed it more than the air around them. Paused at the peak of retained breath, tensed and quivering, both bodies exhaled at once, falling heavy and spent against each other. Dahlia lay again on Devin’s chest, with him still inside of her, while he pulled the end of the blanket over them both. Warm, wonderfully spent, and exhausted, she could hear the waves again, as if they and everything else has paused for the moment and now returned to their rushing lull. The steady beat of day to day would go on from here, but for now, there was only this.
Chapter 3
Dahlia woke to the sun streaming through the window of Devin’s luxury hotel room. The big soft bed was disheveled as she had hoarded the entire sheet to herself during the night. An empty wine glass sat where it was left on the table beside her bed, and bottles stood about the room as a testament to just some of the pleasures they had enjoyed the night before.
She rolled over to find an empty bed beside her, but the smell of coffee wafting through the doorway told her she was not alone. As she was wrapping herself in the sheet, Devin, in stunningly tailored slacks, appeared in the doorway with two cups of coffee in heavy white ceramic mugs.
“Good morning,” he said, sitting down in the chair beside the bed and handing her a cup.
“Good morning,” she returned bashfully. Her discomfort struck her as odd, since they had flung themselves together in so much abandon the night before. But with the daylight came the rules of normalcy and expectations, and Dahlia was her old self again.
“I have to go in to the office for a while.” You’re welcome to hang out here if you’d like. You could order room service and make a day of it. I’m not sure what time I’ll be back.”
“Oh, I have things I need to do.” Dahlia said smoothing out her sheet. “And I work the lunch shift at the café.”
“Will I see you tonight?” Devin asked coolly.
“Maybe.” She looked really uncomfortable now and she knew it.
“Alright then.” He put down his coffee and she heard his keys rattle in his hand. “Text me when you get off work and I’ll come pick you up if you want. I should be done by then I’d think.”
Dahlia nodded and smiled, but didn’t make eye contact.
He kissed her on the head, grabbed up his similarly tailored suit jacket and closed the door behind him.
Dahlia resolved to go to work and never speak of this moment again. She was ashamed of herself for being so easy, making herself a toy for a traveling sales man, and for throwing her characteristic caution to the wind. Dropping the sheet, she pulled her clothes together, pulled her fingers through the tangled mess of her hair, and headed out onto the street. She didn’t live far from the hotel and she wanted to get a shower before showing up for work.
