he next few assignments will ask you to look for different ways you might apply the things you’ve been learning about the book of Ruth. Let’s start by considering what’s there for men to learn. Perhaps you’ve noticed the popularity of the book of Ruth for women’s studies. But why don’t you see more men’s groups sitting around discussing this particular portion of Scripture? Is it irrelevant for men? Spend today reading the book of Ruth and recording the specific ways you think men might apply what’s in this book. Remember that you need to be well aware of Ruth’s culture, as well as your own. And if you want to suggest principles that can be stated from the text, do so as well.

n the last assignment you looked for male-oriented applications from the book of Ruth. Today see what you can apply to the issue of suffering. Usually we turn to Job or to Paul’s struggles to make sense of the suffering that takes place in our lives. But do you think Ruth and Naomi would have anything to say about the topic? Read the book of Ruth again, this time noting any applications and/or principles that might be helpful the next time you face suffering in your own life.
