It was that moment that I saw something between the three of them. They were a team
, all with the same objective to get me to go to Mexico with them. The only person I ever felt like I was part of a team with was Elsie. They had left me alive and basically kidnapped me tonight but for the most part they had been polite and courteous. I looked at Chase. Except for him wanting to kill me.

"
When we come back from Mexico, I can walk away free?"

"
Yes," Chase said, his smile was now gone and he was beginning to look impatient with me. "Does this mean you're agreeing to our terms?"

I was nodding before I even
realised. "Yes, I think so." This was it. This was my ticket out of my complications with Luke. I looked down at the laptop bag stuffed with money at my feet. "But I keep the money from Darren."

"
Deal," River said, grinning as he stood up. He helped me to my feet, and shook my hand. "Welcome to the team, Mack."

I raised my eyebrows
. "Only my best friend Jax has ever called me that before." I smiled.

Instead of taking my hand
, Gabe gave me a big bear hug. "Uh, thanks?" I uttered with surprise. That was the last thing I'd expected.

He gave me a wide grin
. "I'm just pleased you made the right decision. Now, I bet I can get you in with a private surgeon for your eyes within a couple of days, and tomorrow, you'll be booked in at a spa for a full body cleanse, sunbed, and a haircut." Weirdly, I thought he actually looked ecstatically happy about this.

Chase stepped forward
, his intense stare meeting mine as he clasped my hand. "We fly out in ten days. Get used to us, because from now on, you'll have one of us with you at all times." He looked up at River. "I'll drive Mack home, and stay with her tonight. We'll meet you at the Respire Spa first thing in the morning."

I swallowed and pursed my lips together. Chase scared the shit out of me. I would have preferred either River or Gabe to drive me home.
"Wait. What? You're staying at my place?"

"
Is that a problem?" he asked.

I thought I could hear amusement in his voice
, but he looked deadly serious. I slowly shook my head. "Uh, no?"

He smiled.
"Good then. Welcome to the team."

Acknowledgments

I really owe the writing of this book to Cassie Hart, my amazing editor. When she was editing Tijuana Nights, she basically held a literary gun to my head and told me to write Mack's story from the beginning.

Michael and Abigail – you two are my grounding in all parts of my life. I love you both more than anything else in the world
.

Melissa Pearl
, T.G. Ayer, J.C Hart, and Richard Parry, my team of Inklings who always need acknowledgement for their continued and unwavering support in my life. Some days I just wouldn't know what to do without you all.

A big shout out to my proof-reader
, Erin Travers, and my formatter, Tee Ayer, and of course - my lovely team of beta-readers! Your feedback on this novella was fantastic, and you helped make the book stronger. I couldn't do it without your sage advice.

And finally – the biggest acknowledgement is to my family. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for always being there.
And thank you for always encouraging me to pursue my dreams.

About the Author

Leigh K. Hunt is a reader
, writer, mother, and wife from the Land of the Long White Cloud, otherwise known as Aotearoa, New Zealand. She has a weird obsession with books like Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Pride & Prejudice, and adores Thrillers and Dystopian novels. To say that she lives in her own dreamy wonderland is an understatement.

As a child
, her whole world was fantasy-based reality of tree huts, artistic endeavours, musical creations, and story inventions. She would only come back to the 'real world' to do the mundane things like feed the dog her broccoli or brussel-sprouts under the dining table.

If Leigh could have one superpower in the whole wide world
, it would be to have the ability to fold space and time, so that she could be anywhere, at any time. Leigh loves travelling with a fiery passion, and exploring foreign countries, delving into different cultures, and immersing herself with the people.

In her adult life
, she works full time, is a mother to a gorgeous but very lively two-year-old, and is married to her rock, Michael. She also has numerous mothers, fathers, and a couple of very special siblings who keep her grounded, despite her desire to permanently live inside her head.
