“Oh Ada this is a fucking mess” he growled.

“I’m sorry” she cried as fresh tears fell from her eyes and ran down her cheeks in torrents.

“It’s not your fault sweet girl.” He said holding her closer. “I should have let followed my instincts. I knew he couldn’t be trusted”

Ada shook her head.

“I saw it. I didn’t trust him. But I just let lust rule. He was asleep in my bed the morning after we healed Travis. I don’t know why I lost all form of sensibility. I just went with it. What the hell is wrong with me?” Ada said.

Kade shook his head and pulled her close.

“There is nothing wrong with you. I don’t know how he did it. But obviously he is very powerful, hell he is a Nephilim and now with the amulet his powers will be tenfold” Kade said.

Ada let out a sob as she put her head in her hands. Her stomach started to hurt and she was filled with fear and guilt. She had messed up so bad. Her Mother was dead. War was about to break. An Angel who wanted to eradicate humans while making them his slaves had moved in to the home next door. The man she had just spent two orgasmic days with had stolen the most powerful piece of jewellery in the Witch kingdom and turned out to be a Nephilim. And she was sitting powerless on the couch beside who she thought was the only Nephilim left but is now not. Her Father had said it was a fucking mess; that was an understatement. It was a fucking disaster.

Chapter Thirteen

“We’ve been seeing what you wanted, got us cornered right now. Fallen asleep from our vanity, might cost us our lives. I hear they’re getting closer. Their howls are sending chills down my spine and time is running out now. They’re coming down from the hills from behind” Within Temptation

The knock on the door gave Kade and Ada both a start and they exchanged glances, instantly sending their feelers out.

“It’s Karla” they heard through the door.

Kade nodded and stood up striding to the door to let Karla in.  She held a folder in her hand which she dropped onto the dining table.

“This is Dane’s file. He is a Warlock, which we both knew” Karla said looking between Kade and Ada.

“We think he is also Abaddon’s son” Ada said running her hands over her face.

“What? How did you work that out?” Karla asked looking between Ada and Kade.

Ada pulled the piece of paper out of her pocket and handed it to Karla.

“It’s the same handwriting the note from Abaddon was in. I think Dane must have written the first note” Ada said.

Karla read the note and nodded her head.

“Jesus, this is no good. No good at all” she said running her hand through her hair.

Ada sighed and nodded. She suddenly sat up and looked at Kade and Karla.

“What is it?” Kade asked with a frown.

“The tattoos. The fucking tattoos.” Ada spat.

Karla and Kade looked at one another and shrugged their shoulders.

“Both Abaddon and Dane had matching tattoos, the tribal patterns on their chest and arms” Ada said.

Kade frowned again before he picked up the folder, that Karla had thrown on the table and began to leaf through it, his frown creased his brow.

“It says that Dane grew up in the Brownbank Coven” Kade said looking up at Ada.

“He couldn’t have. That coven was demolished years ago, long before I was even born”. She said.

The Brownbank Coven had been the biggest coven in the Witch kingdom; it was also the most powerful. But they lost their way. Witches magic works by using light, however Warlocks work by using dark.

The head of the Coven, Circe, fell in love with the Warlock, Erra. He was the most powerful Warlock, a Nephilim. The problem was that where there is light there can’t be darkness. At the start the Witches and Warlocks were able to live peacefully together, but as time went on the Warlocks managed to convince the Witches to change their magic and work in dark. As a result the coven literally demolished itself.

It was stories that Merza and Morrigan spoke of, disease, that hadn’t been seen for centuries, started appearing and the Witches who normally were immune became sick and started to die. The buildings began to fall until there was nothing left. The gardens that were once filled with vegetables and herbs became toxic. The ground in which they grew became literally poisoned. Ada scorned herself again for giving herself over to a Warlock. She didn’t know what she was thinking, nothing could have ever worked between a Witch and a Warlock, nothing good could have ever come from it and nothing could have come from this Warlock.

“It would make sense though seeing as he is a Warlock, but if he was raised in Brownbank it would have made him centuries old. But that would have meant that his Mother, the Witch, left the coven long before the disaster” Ada said more to herself than anyone.

“That’s true, but we were all under the understanding that no one was left” Kade said.

Ada nodded, that was what Merza had told her, that all the Witches and Warlocks had died and there was no one left. But then again until that day Ada had believed that Kade was the only Nephilim left and it turns out she was wrong about that. Abaddon had produced a child.

“We always thought that the Brownbank coven was only Erra, the Nephilim. Who was Erra’s Father? I didn’t think he came from Abaddon” Ada asked.

Kade sat back and scratched the top of his head in thought.

“I would have to research it. I’m not sure.” He said.

“Hamuel was Erra’s Father” Karla spoke.

Kade and Ada turned to look at her as she held up her phone and waved it.

“Aje Authority computerised all its files” she said with a smile.

Ada smiled at her and nodded her head.

“Well that makes it a little easier. From what I remember from what Mum and Morrigan said Hamuel’s harem of Witches all died with Erra. Dane’s story doesn’t make any sense” Ada said.

“You’re assuming that his story is true, after all he lied about a fairly important point.  His Father is the fallen Angel” Karla said.

Ada nodded her head and ran her hand through her hair.

“That’s true. It is possible that it’s all bullshit. Well you have his Mother’s body. Who was his Mother?” Ada asked.

Karla typed into her phone and frowned as she searched what she was looking for.

“Ok. So his Mother’s name was Irza. And she was raised” Karla typed some more on the screen of her phone “she was raised in the Willowbrook coven”

Ada raised an eyebrow at her Father as Karla continued to swipe at her phone. She held up her hand for attention.

“Oh here’s something” Karla said. “So, Irza was raised in the Willowbrook coven until she was twenty two and then she vanished. The Aje Authority investigated, but could find no trace of her. That was in 1765”

Ada looked between Karla and Kade.

“1765? So Abaddon steals her, hides her away, impregnates her, kills her, gets matching tattoo’s with his son and now wants to destroy all humans. Fucking hell, this is insanity.” Ada said.

Kade sighed and rubbed his eyes.

“This is crazy.” He said.

Ada and Karla nodded in agreement.

“We need to go to the coven, we need help. I need to locate the locket and maybe Morrigan can fill us in further about Dane’s Mother and her disappearance”. Ada said grabbing her keys off the table where she had thrown them in a hurry to search her house.

Chapter Fourteen

“Knife in my back, you can’t take it back. Eye for an eye – its cut and dry I’ll do what I know, I’ll reap what I sow. While you’re waiting for me to fail” Five Finger Death Punch.

Morrigan was the eldest of the coven left, Merza was her twin sister. However, they looked like complete opposites. When Ada, Kade and Karla arrived at the coven, Morrigan was already standing outside waiting for them, her long red hair flowing like waves of crimson in the wind. She twisted her hands with worry and her green eyes flashed with magic.

“Ada” Morrigan said embracing her into her body.

“Aunt Morrigan, I’ve lost the amulet” Ada cried feeling the sting of tears breaking to the corners of her eyes again.

Morrigan nodded and took Ada’s hand leading her inside. Kade and Karla followed close behind. Ada watched as Karla silently looked around the large room they stood in. The floors were marbled, a huge stair case wound its way up to a second floor, the ceilings were high and the room was filled with shelves that were littered with books generations old.

Morrigan waved her hand around the room and three chairs shuffled their way across the floor to meet each recipient. Karla gasped and Ada had to stifle a giggle. She was so used to Morrigan’s magic, she used it for everything, including bringing seats to her guests; however humans weren’t used to seeing such a brazen act of magic.

Morrigan fingered the books that lined one shelf until she let out a cry of success pulling the book she was looking for out of its hidey hole. She turned to face her audience as she flipped through the dusty old pages.

“Ah yes, here” she spoke.

Morrigan stepped forward toward Ada and pointed to the page the book was turned to. Ada looked down and saw her locket hand drawn onto the page. She looked up at Morrigan.

“We will be able to track it?” Ada asked.

Morrigan puffed out her chest and smiled.

“We sure can” she said confidently. “All female Witches came from the same Angel, Aiden; which means that we are all connected and the amulet holds the power of all the female descendants from the Nephilim Kaia. I will call the coven and we will start the ceremony”

Ada nodded as Morrigan hustled out of the room.

“What ceremony does she mean?” Karla asked looking over her shoulder watching Morrigan leave.

“All the Witches of the coven come together and perform the magic required to find the amulet” Ada said as she looked down at the book that still lay open in her lap. “According to the book the ceremony will give us the exact location of the amulet and if the ceremony is held by the eldest living Witch, the amulet will be rendered powerless”

Karla came to where Ada sat and looked over her shoulder at the book. Ada stood, passing the book Karla and started rifling through the drawers and cupboards finding the herbs and candles she needed.

“So if Dane has the amulet he won’t be able to use it?” Karla said to no one in particular.

“That’s right” Ada said over her shoulder.

Kade cleared his throat and they both looked up at him.

“We need to find out where exactly Dane came from” Kade reminded them.

Ada nodded and put the candles and herbs she had been collecting onto a side table. She began to scour the books. Held in the bookshelf was every record of every Witch.

“Which coven did you say his Mother disappeared from?” Ada asked Karla.

Karla put the book in her lap and pulled her phone out of her bra and started to scan through it.

“Willowbrook” Karla said.

Ada nodded and began to finger through the books until she found the one for Willowbrook. She pulled it from the shelf and took the book to the table, blowing the dust from the cover.

“1765 she disappeared right?” Ada asked.

Karla nodded standing to come beside Ada to look at the book as she flicked the pages to where the records began in 1765. Ada murmured the names she read before tapping on Irza’s name.

“There isn’t much information about it” Ada said scanning what was written about Irza’s disappearance. “Oh whoa”

Ada looked up at Kade her eyes wide.

“Irza was a Nephilim” Ada said with shock.

“What?” Karla said. “So she was the head of the coven?”

Ada shook her head.

“No the leader of the coven was Mikkah, she was Nephilim. How were there two?” Ada said.

Kade stepped forward to where they stood.

“Oh Jesus” Ada exclaimed as she continued to read “so it says that Irza actually ran away. With Abaddon”

Karla and Kade both stopped reading and looked at her their mouths ajar.

“So Dane is Abaddon’s son then? We were right” Karla said in shock.

Ada nodded her head.

“But it can’t be possible. Nephilim couldn’t conceive to Angels. She shouldn’t have been able to have Dane” Ada said thoughtfully.

“Well we don’t actually know that, the Angels left the earth after they procreated with the humans. Abaddon was the only one that was left here. So it was never proven that Nephilim couldn’t conceive to an Angel” he said.

“Until now” Ada said shaking her head and running her hand through her hair.

Morrigan came back into the room and stopped cocking her head to the side.

“What are you all looking at?” she said with curiosity.

The three of them looked up and then at each other.

“Well it seems this investigation just got a little stranger” Karla said.

“What do you mean?” Morrigan asked coming to have a look at the book.
