She’d never tire of the freedom of sharing energy with him.

Maeve backed the few steps toward the bed, pulling him to her and down onto the mattress. His chest brushed against her breasts and his knee parted her legs as he eased over her. Hot breath kissed along her neck and she arched up against him, her hungry body eager for his. A crackle of blue light sparked between them along the entire length of their joined bodies, evidence of their perfect connection.

Nate’s hand slid beneath the small of her back, bringing their bodies together as closely as possible. She wrapped her arms around him, up his back and over his shoulder blades and gripped him to her as their energy intertwined. When his erection pushed between her legs and against her core, she opened for him. The anticipation of penetration almost undid her.

“Nate,” she begged.

“I love you, Maeve.” Nate cradled her face in his hands and drew his thumbs across her cheekbones. A tear escaped the outside corner of her eye and rolled down the side of her face. He kissed it away.

“I love you, too, Nate.”

Nate pushed into Maeve and bright lights exploded behind her closed eyelids as he filled her. Her body stretched around him and the exquisite tightness brought more tears of joy to her eyes as he rocked in and out of her.

“God, Maeve.”

He maintained the agonizingly slow rhythm as their energy built and Maeve cried out as her release came first and she tightened around him. Nate’s body tensed as he hovered over her, barely able to hold his weight off her as his entire body constricted with the power of his building release. Maeve clenched around him and he relented, exploding his light and release into her.

Nate collapsed beside her and Maeve pulled the blanket over them both.

For now, they were safe and together.

She couldn’t think of anything better than that. Nate’s family was upstairs—alive if not yet wholly well—and the worst of the danger had passed.

Maeve didn’t believe in happily ever after, but she was beginning to think she could believe in happy for now.

Because she was.

She traced the new tattoo across his chest, directly over his heart. It was her sigil. Nate had created it to bind them together. She now had the same mark tattooed over her own heart, but to represent Nate. She felt its power surge through her fingertips as she mapped its outline.

“What are you, Nate Blackburn?”

“Yours.”
