“That fat, pompous mayor. He’s the underwriter,” Matthew groaned as they began walking.

“You mean to tell me Gerald Marlowe is the prick behind everyone losing money?” Doc asked.

“Well, according to Charlotte,” Matthew began.

“Wait. What the fuck does Charlotte have to do with you getting shot?” Braxton asked.

“She found him. That’s why I sent her to you.” Matthew tried to explain, but Braxton didn’t hear him. Putting two and two together, he shouted, running toward the sheriff’s station, “Doc, get your ass to the clinic fast. Jordan’s hurt, and don’t worry about telling Macie. I’ll do it for you!”

Sprinting through the snow, Braxton’s mind raced with implications. The charges alone were enough to put the mayor in prison for years, that was if Charlotte was unharmed, because if he saw one hair out of place on her feisty head, the mayor was a dead man.

Flinging open the door, he stumbled upon a three-ringed circus.

“Hit ’em again, Charlie!” Jacks laughed hysterically.

“Aw, sugar, you can do better than that. Here, let me show you. You gotta put more force into it, like this.” Orin laughed, showing her what he meant.

“But I’m more effective if I use the shorter one.” Charlotte smiled back at Orin.

Braxton couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Handcuffed to the jail cell bars was the mayor, butt naked and crying like a baby, as Charlotte received instructions on how to properly cane the man. Now, technically, under different circumstances, Braxton would have enjoyed this scenario, but after the day he’d just had and the realization that Charlotte was just fine, he just shook his head and relaxed. He walked closer and leaned against the counter and just watched as his future wife was having the time of her life. Braxton had to admit that after everything Charlotte had been through, and everything she had accomplished in such a short time, she was actually happy and comfortable with those close in his life. She was accepted and loved.

“When can I stick this up his ass?” she asked, holding a seven-inch dildo and grinning like a child about to get a present.

“Later. First we gotta get him panting and begging,” Orin instructed.

“You ain’t sticking nothing up my ass!” the mayor yelled furiously, trying to get free.

“Oh shut up, pencil dick. You might as well get used to it. I hear those big boys in maximum security really love a fresh ass. We’re helpin’ prepare ya. ’Cause it’s gonna hurt like a bitch when some big, hard dude shoves his aching cock up your virgin ass. You might want to thank me for this,” Charlotte taunted.

Damn, his baby doll had a mean streak a mile wide running through her veins.

“Oh, the mayor is no virgin, Charlotte. He plays both ways, don’t ya, Gerald.” Jacks laughed, slapping him hard on his white ass.

“Oh, so this won’t hurt at all!” Charlotte jumped gleefully as she moved toward the mayor with the phallus in her hand. “Here, I’ll even be nice,” she informed the man, turning on the vibrator. “Now hold still.”

Braxton chose that exact moment to make his presence known. “Put the vibrator down, Charlotte.”

“Braxton!” she grinned, dropping the dildo and jumping into his arms. “Look, we got the underwriter.”

Hugging her tightly to him, he laughed. “I see that.”

Never in his life had he felt so relieved. She was fine, better than fine. She was perfect.

* * * *

In the weeks that followed, Gerald Marlowe and his accomplice were charged with kidnapping, extortion, money laundering, and tax fraud. But the big news was when Gerald Marlowe lowered the bomb that he was not the town’s underwriter. Yes, he was siphoning off funds from the account, but the account itself was not his, and to make matters worse, he proved it. That meant that Matthew, Janie, and Charlotte were back at square one with their research. Not that Janie and Charlotte minded.

Since the blizzard, Janie decided she had had enough of Charlotte ignoring her, and demanded that her sister deal with the fact that she wasn’t going anywhere. Charlotte welcomed the feisty librarian, and since then, they were inseparable, much to the groans and complaints of the Hicks Brothers, who now had to share their wife with Charlotte.

Jordan did in fact have two broken ribs and was recuperating at home, under duress, as Braxton left his care to Charlotte. Jordan was begging after two hours for Braxton to hire a nurse, because he swore Charlotte was trying to kill him.

Braxton knew Charlotte only wanted to help, and after begging, he relented. Since she wasn’t his first choice, he gave her explicit instructions and even wrote them down for her. And when she promised that she would follow them to the letter, Braxton agreed.

“I swear, that shit she served me was not soup! It was heated piss water with crackers,” Jordan complained.

“Jordan, baby. Charlotte would not serve you piss.” Braxton smiled.

“The fuck she wouldn’t. You know how devious she can be. She is paying me back for the damn outfit. I know it. Here, taste it! I dare you,” Jordan demanded furiously.

“Fine, I’ll taste it,” Braxton said, taking the bowl off the tray. He smelled the yellow concoction. It smelled like chicken broth, but when the spoon hit his mouth, he spit the contents across the room. “
Charlotte
!”

Epilogue

Snow was falling softly around her as Charlotte walked around the front yard of her sister’s home. It was so beautiful out here. She could see for miles as the soft fluff fell silently to the ground.

Life was good for her. She was finally comfortable with where she was at, and for the first time in ages, she felt loved and accepted for who she was.

Braxton and Jordan were extremely patient and understanding with her, and she appreciated that. She needed that. She still saw Kelly once a week, but it was more of a gossipy girl session than a learning session, and Charlotte realized she didn’t care.

She still worked for Matthew Jenkins, and she and Janie were making progress, but finding the underwriter was proving to be more difficult than previously thought. Though Janie took over the searching, Charlotte felt more comfortable compiling the data and organizing it all. She was good at that, and very proficient with the information.

As for her home life, well, she couldn’t ask for more. She was with two men who not only loved each other, they loved her to distraction. But lately they had been kind of standoffish. They were hiding something, and that worried her.

So when they suggested that she visit with her sister, Charlotte thought they just wanted to be alone and left angry. She was still angry as she thought about what they were doing behind her back. She couldn’t believe that they would still exclude her from their sexual romps, and that hurt.

“Charlotte, what’s wrong?” Janie asked silently, walking up behind her.

“Nothing.”

“Come on, sweetie. You can tell me,” Janie coaxed.

Charlotte rounded on her sister and yelled, “Those fuckers sent me out here so they could fuck each other senseless and leave me out of it. Can you believe that? They wanted to do the nasty, and they didn’t want me with them.”

Sighing, Janie grinned. “Charlotte, is that what you really believe?”

“Well, why else would they send me out here?” she quietly responded, kicking the snow.

“We sent you out here ‘cause you are nosey and would have figured out what we were up to. We wanted to surprise you,” Braxton said, walking up to her.

Charlotte looked at the man who had captured her heart and held it within the palms of his strong hands. He was everything she thought she never wanted and more. Braxton was a demanding lover, a strong lover, and a dominant lover. He possessed the ability to calm her when no other could, and she loved him.

“Besides, I am still pissed with that chicken soup fiasco. You deserved to get your ass beat for that, but I forgive you. Just don’t ever do it again.” Jordan grinned, walking up behind Braxton.

Jordan was her best friend and confidant, and her world would never be complete without him in it. Charlotte smiled. “You deserved it. You made me wear that gawd-awful outfit.”

“Yeah, well guess what, sweet cheeks, there’s plenty more outfits where that came from,” Jordan teased.

Clearing her throat, Janie smiled. “I’ll leave you two gentlemen to it, and good luck.” And with that, Charlotte watched her sister scurry off toward the safety of her home.

“What did she mean, ‘good luck’?” Charlotte questioned, looking at both of her men.

She watched as if in slow motion as Braxton and Jordan each took off their coats, and she was surprised to find them both wearing tuxedos.

They looked so handsome.

Charlotte’s breath caught and stilled when they each dropped down to one knee. There in the open field, covered in snow, her men kneeled before her dressed in their finest. The color contrast was amazing as their tuxes stood out against the white landscape.

“What are ya’ll doing? You’re gonna catch pneumonia, and ask Jordan if ya don’t believe me. Ya don’t want me nursing ya back to health.” She smiled.

“She’s right, ya know. Maybe we should have rethought this.” Jordan grinned.

“I can take whatever she dished out.” Braxton smiled lovingly at her then cleared his throat and took her hand in his. “Charlotte, since the day I met you, you have been nothing but a torn in my side. You create havoc everywhere you go. Chaos ensues in your wake, but through everything, you have wiggled your way into my heart. I love you. From that very first night, I knew you were gonna be mine. When the whole world is on your case, always know that my arms are always open for you. Be my wife, Charlotte. Let me hold you for a million years and more.”

Jordan smiled up at her and spoke, “The moment you walked into my life, it was forever more changed. You are smart, funny, and devious, and I love you with all my heart. Whatever this life throws at us, I can’t imagine you anywhere but beside me, holding my hand. You are my best friend, Charlotte, and it would be my greatest pleasure if you would consent to be my wife.”

Charlotte looked down at the two men who loved her more than anything in this world, and she loved them just as much. She couldn’t imagine her life without either of them in it, nor did she want to. She loved them so much her heart felt like it was bursting over with joy.

“Uh, baby doll, its kinda cold out here. Can you move it along with your answer. My balls just shriveled up into peanuts,” Braxton said as a shiver rolled threw him.

“Real romantic, asshole. You couldn’t wait and let her think about it,” Jordan chided, as he, too, was rocked with a shiver.

“You fucking wait. She takes any longer and my dick will have permanent frostbite,” Braxton shouted back.

“I knew you wouldn’t be able to do this. You don’t have a romantic bone in your body!” Jordan yelled, getting to his feet and stomping off.

Charlotte watched as Braxton stood and then handed her a small velvet box then proceeded to stomp after Jordan, shouting and yelling at him, “This was your idea, asshole. You get back here and freeze your dick off with me. I knew we should have taken her to a nice warm restaurant, but no, you said she would like the snow. Jordan! Get back here!”

Charlotte stood there with tears in her eyes as she watched her two men fight and bicker as they headed for the house. Looking down at the small box in her hands, she slowly opened it as tears flowed freely down her face. She could still hear them bickering and fighting, and a small smile formed on her face. Taking the ring from the box, she slid it on her finger, dropped the velvet box, and ran after her men, “Hey, dickheads, don’t you want my fucking answer!”
