Epilogue

Finally Home

After 2 whole days of being in a car, it felt good to know that we were
finally to Portland.
The scenery was breath
taking the second we crossed in
to
Maine. I had a feeling I was going to like it here.

Our first stop was the Eagle Island Lighthouse, which was only half a mile from the house we were staying at.
It turns out Jason was wrong about their not being other immortals. In fact there were
quartheras
, and roggeras all living under the same roof peacefully. Apparently, there are quite a few other “safe” houses across the country. It felt good to know that we weren’t alone.

The house we were staying at looked more like a mansion. Including Robbie and I, there were about 12 of us, and we each had our own bedroom and bathroom.
It sort of reminded me of a Barbie dream house I had as a kid.

The best part of my new house is the view. From my room I have an excellent view of the ocean, and I can see a lighthouse. Every time I look out, I am reminded of my dad. It feels so peaceful. I can imagine him looking down at me and smiling.

Even though I feel very safe at my new home, I’m always looking behind me, and always watching. I know that someday Jason and Adrianne will find me, but when they do, I will be
ready
.

“Keep up,” Robbie yelled, his voice echoing.

I ran up the round staircase, trying to keep up. “Your legs are like 10 feet longer than mine!” I yelled back.

He laughed. “You’re being a bit dramatic.” He slowed down his pace so I could catch up. Finally, we reached the top. Robbie grabbed my hand as we made our way over to the edge.

I took a deep breath, enjoying the smell of the fresh salt water, as I looked out at the ocean. I love nights
like tonight. A storm wa
s coming in, so the tide
wa
s high. Waves over 10 feet tall
were
crashing into the rocks.

Robbie wrapped his arms around me as we stood there. “I love you, Sofie,” he whispered in my ear.

“I love you
,
too.”

It’s moments like these that I never want to end. I know without a doubt that this is where I belong. This is where I was destined to be, ri
ght here, with Robbie beside me. I feel warm, and complete.

I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but tonight, I don’t care. Just as long as Robbie is by my side, I will be forever happy.

The end.

For now.

Not Safe

As I lay in bed,
I couldn’t stop thinking about Sofia… The way her wavy red hair fell around her face, her big brown eyes, her smile…
the
seductive
way she looked at me. She was always looking at me. She tho
ught I didn’t notice, but I did
. I only hoped that Jason didn’
t notice
.

Everything about her was…
perfect
.

I know that she sees the good in me. Despite the fact that I’ve ruined her life, I know she wants to be with me. The scary part is I migh
t want to be with her too. I
t’s dangerous to think like that.

I heard a noise from the hallway, and suddenly my door swung open. Sofie walked in, and her beauty took my breath away for a moment. Even in her pajamas, she was stunning. I turned my head away so I wasn’t staring at her long legs in her shorts.

As soon as she shut the door, my trance was broken. “What are you doing here?” I wanted to yell at her, but I didn’t want to wake up Jason. She didn’t need to be in here. I was no good for her. I couldn’t protect her. When she didn’t say anything, I continued. “You can’t come in here. It’s not safe.” Remembering my past mistakes, I added, “I’m not safe.”

“I don’t believe you.” Her seductive voice made my heart melt like butter. I tried hard to keep my composure.

“I’m serious. Jason is the one who can keep you safe. Forget about me.” It was a lie. Jason wasn’t going to keep her safe. But I knew he wasn’t going to do anything about it for a while.
Right now, he needed to think
that
I
bought his lie.

“I can’t forget about you. I don’t care if I’m safe or not.” Her voice quivered and I suddenly didn’t care that Jason was sleeping in the next room. I wanted her.

I stood up and moved closer to her. Just inches away from her, I couldn’t resist pushing her bangs behind her ear. I had to touch her, even if only for a moment.

“I can’t stand the thought of you getting hurt,” I said softly.

“I can’t st
and being away from you anymore,

she countered
.

I sighed painfully. Oh how I wanted her. “No, Sofia, you can’t. You have to stay away from me. I’m serious. I am bad for you.” For her benefit, I added, “Jason is the good one, he deserves you.”

“But I don’t want him,” she said boldly. “I want you.”

She wanted me. ME – Robbie Morgan.

I took a step towards her and before I realized what was happening, my lips met hers. This was going to be bad, but when I heard Sofia moan, all other thoughts disappeared and it was just me and her.

With her hot body pressed up against mine, I could
n’t resist running my hands up and down
her body. I wanted her closer. I put my hands to the back of her neck and gently pulled her closer to me. It still wasn’t close enough. I wanted every inch of our skin to touch. I wanted…

I realized what I was doing, and I abruptly stopped. I backed away slowly, careful not to touch her skin
again
. Her heavy breathing made her even harder to resist. She was just as affected by that kiss as I was.

“Go to Jason,” I said sharply. Once I noticed the tears in her eyes, my voice softened a bit. “Please, don’t make this harder than it already is.”

“But I…”

“Go now!” I cut her off, knowing that if she continued, I would once again fall under her spell.
I couldn’t say no to her.
The look on her face made me instantly regret my words. I wanted to apologize, but I couldn’t. Not now. She turned and ran out of my room, takin
g a piece of my heart with her. I hated that I made her cry.

What
hurt
the most was that
she would be in Jason’s arms for the rest of the night. But for now, that was the safest place for her.
