“What’s going on,” I whisper to Mandy.

“Shh, pay attention,” she hisses.

“Baby, I need you to come up on stage,” Nolan announces as two security guards come to the barrier in front of me.

Linc lifts me over, then Mandy, before he hops over to follow us.  Security leads us up on stage. I can see the shadows of the rest of the band but I still can’t make them out. Mandy and Linc stay to the side of the stage as Nolan holds out his hand for me to come to him.

I walk over to him watching his face for an answer as to what is going on. I am not prepared to perform tonight. Why would they all put me on the spot like this? Nolan wraps my small hand in his large one and pulls me to him.

He kisses me on the lips and the crowd cheers. He pulls away as if he just remembered we are on stage. My cheeks are warm with embarrassment, despite this not being the first time he has kissed me on stage.

He turns to the crowd and wipes sweat from his brow. “I’m so fucking nervous,” he laughs to the crowd.

I tug on his arm as I look up at him. He looks at me and I search his grey eyes. He winks at me and I wrap myself around the arm I’m anchored to.

“So as you all know this was a surprise for my girl,” he starts to the crowd. “We also thought this might be the bands last performance. But she surprised me tonight. When we return home Suntrust Records will be making stars out of True Life thanks to my baby. She has done so much for this band and me and she doesn’t know how much we all love and appreciate her.”

The crowd is really cheering now and Nolan waits for them to calm a little before he starts again. “Well I wrote a song to tell Kitty everything I don’t know how to just say. This is important guys so bare with me,” Nolan says nervously and wipes at his brow again.

Linc shows up at my side with a stool and Nolan lifts me to perch me on the edge of it. I’m suddenly nervous as well. I look out at the growing crowd and then back at Nolan who has started the melody he was playing earlier. It is so beautiful. The band starts in with him and the song is just transformed. I can feel it in my heart like I have never felt one of Nolan’s songs before.

When the violin joins I really burst into tears. Mandy has always had stage fright, that is why she never joined the band with her brothers. But she is an amazing violinist. I know they have all done all this for me and once and for all I see that I have always had people around that love me. And then he begins to sing.

I had no idea I was missing out on life.

Someone like you just wasn’t in my sight.

I was falling down,

not making a sound.

I didn’t know I really wanted to make a splash in the pool of life

But now if I’m quiet it doesn’t seem right.

I was falling down,

It was my last round.

Then you walked through that door

And I didn’t know myself anymore.

Cause its you, baby its you that’s saved me.

And now I’m fall-ing

Falling in love with you, I’m fall-ing

Can’t live life without you, I’m fall-ing.

I now see it I need you in my life

So please… will you, baby please will you…be my wife.

I gasp on the last bar. I can’t believe him. I can’t believe he is doing this here. I am in full out tears with hiccups, snot and all. The lights have come up a bit on the stage and I can now see the band but I can also see Mandy playing, Linc grinning and my aunt, uncle and Mr. Chaney with tears and the biggest grins of all.

Oh my God, he is proposing to me. I have to be dreaming but I know I’m not. My dreams are never this good. I turn back to Nolan and he lifts his tee shirt to wipe my face then leans into peck my lips before continuing to the next verse. How am I supposed to resist that sexy raspy voice he sings in.

I was told be a man, start a career, and find a wife.

But I never thought she’d walk right into my life.

See I was just falling down

Didn’t think love could be found

But then I met you and I had to have you

You’re my treasure and I want to have you forever, just you

Cause its you, baby its you that’s found me.

And now I’m fall-ing

Falling in love with you, I’m fall-ing

Can’t live life without you, I’m fall-ing.

I now see it I need you in my life

So please… will you, baby please will you…be my wife.

“Come on everyone help me out here,” Nolan says to the crowd. “So please Kelly will you, baby please will you… be my wife. Say it again.”

The crowd is repeating it for him and they flip out when he reaches into his blazer pocket and pulls out a box. I have my arms wrapped around my middle trying to hold it together. This means so much to me. When I met Nolan I never expected to be with him. I was so far from his type.

I wasn’t ready for the love I have for him but I can’t deny it just like I would never be able to tell this man no. Of course I will marry him, because he is Nolan “Rage” Chaney. The man that opened my heart again by letting me find my music in his band and my love in his heart.

“Yes,” I choke out to the man kneeling on his knee before me. “You’re perfect for me, yes.”

Epilogue

Six months later
…..

The day is finally here. It seems like I have waited forever for today, but I couldn’t be happier. We have a surprise for the band and family later. Kelly will be pissed when she finds out what I have planned but she said we could tell after the wedding.

Our lives have been amazing in the last six months. Sure recording an album is not as easy as we all thought but we are doing it together. The song I wrote to propose to Kelly made the album after Kelly and I sat and cleaned it up a bit. She gets all teary eyed when we play it.

I love my girl so much. Her aunt and uncle moved out pretty fast and within three weeks of being home from the tour we were remodeling the place from top to bottom to make it our home. It was a little hard for Kelly but she got into it when she started to plan the house around our life together.

My wife to be has taken on way too much but with all the support of our friends and family you would never know it. She is hanging in there and I admire her even more for it. I knew from the first time I saw her that I wanted Kelly, but now that I have her I can’t imagine how I got so lucky to have her. And today we will make it official. She is about to become Mrs. Nolan “Rage” Chaney.

Nothing can ruin today, not even me wanting to kick Linc’s ass for pissing my sister off today of all days. I don’t understand those two and my soon to be wife has told me to stop trying. A lot has changed in six months. We are all different and I know we are about to change a whole lot more. I know we can all make it through this. The band is my family and like it or not Linc is now a part of that family.

Kelly wasn’t ready for the tat of the wings Erica sketched but I talked her into something small. Under her engagement ring is my name in script, Rage. I have Kelly right where my wedding band will go and on my neck I have Kitty under a pair of violet colored eyes.

My girl owns me and the world will always know it. Today I will vow to always make it home to her. I plan to grow old with her and make as much music together as we can, even when it is just for us and we are too old to play it for anyone else.

We were brought together by the stage, ripped to pieces on the stage, and engaged on the stage so it is only right that our wedding be on a stage. Kelly didn’t want to walk down a traditional aisle without her father. Let’s face it nothing about us is traditional. All I know is she is perfect for me, just like she told me I was for her when she said yes. Kelly told me she feels her dad most when she is on the stage so that is where I will meet my girl and make her mine for good.
